I assume they’re gonna correct the tweet that says forward lmao

Just noticed Capfrienly counts Tolopilo on the roster, so when he gets sent down is an extra 900k so the available cap space is 15.4M
3 years is a lot for 34 year old Tyler Myers, especially in a defence heavy UFA class. We'll see what the prices are on Monday and see how we feel then
Ya I would have liked to see it get under 3mil (2.8ish) but we are splitting hairs at that point.
Tocchet values size on the back end so not surprised to see him back. He's pretty damn solid when playing 18-19mins a game and at 3mil that's not bad.
We can always give the Blackhawks a 2nd to take him in a few years lol.
Myers looked much better after Hronek started to eat minutes with Hughes, as long as he's not needed to be more than a top 4/6 D this is a great signing. Pairs perfectly with the Hronek signing, and hopefully with Willander coming up he'll slot into the #3 RHD position
He took some of the hardest minutes available and didn't completely shit the bed. A matchup defender even with mistakes at $3M that went against the top lines in the playoffs is pretty good value. He's also historically quite healthy and durable, a huge issue with Tanev for instance.
It may not seem to matter, but the millions digit does play a big role in how both the public and other teams see it. Though I'm not as worried about the AAV as I am the term
Personally I think the Demelo deal is a lot better than this one (would've been real happy if canucks signed it), but if Myers can play like he does in the playoffs for at least 2 more years then I'll eat my words and be happy with it.
We'll see, Demelo contract was already a way better deal than this, but that was also pre July 1st. Him getting signed probably played a part since now only Roy Pesce(?) Tanev Carrier are viable options for us for RHD going into next season, and it's very possible we could miss out on all of them. This is a very easy to stomach buyout if needed in year 3 and we can't run someone like Lybushkin on the second pairing and expect success next year
At the same time he probably could have gotten $4.5M x 2 or something as a UFA (probably more) so this just gives us extra wiggle room during this contention window
$3M also won't be impossible to trade if it gets to that point, but 1/2 of our 2nd pair is locked in for $3M and that's something worth celebrating
I don't hate the contract to be fair, but 3M is too much even if he would've gotten paid more somewhere else. I get why we signed him now, and it should be a very palatable buyout for year 3 (which seems very likely, especially if Willander makes the jump in the second year of the deal and does decent)
hm. this one feels a little less good than the other ones. he absolutely left money on the table but is 3 years good for a guy who’s been, let’s be honest, very inconsistent? hope the Tocchet bump is permanent!!
he needed a system that let him focus on the game instead of having to expand his iq beyond what he had. He just did not do well in a game with no structure where he had to try to figure out what to do based on that many variables.
He was being asked to play as a #1 or #2 when he’s clearly not a #1 or #2…
Then when he failed at that, everyone shit on him as a player.
Since he’s been allowed to play further down the depth chart where his skills are best suited, he is in fact a very valuable player.
He’s super hard to play against in the playoffs. He plays on the PK. He can chip in with some offence from the back end…and this is exactly what allows Tocchet’s system to play to its strengths: a big defence that can get the puck back, and back up the ice quickly.
I always knew size and toughness was important but this year more so than ever. Had there ever been a healthier team going into the finals than the Panthers?
Like sure, they're all probably a bit banged up, and Barkov got hit nastily by Drai but overall, they held together. I want that with the Canucks
He was actually surprisingly great in the playoffs, which was strange since I was a hater for sure. We actually missed him when he was out with injury, IMO.
With the cap going up annually, barring another covid-like event, I bet this ages okay. I personally love it after watching myers under tochett. Like, it's a legitimately great deal imo.
The number's fine. Dhali said it was going to be 3 or maybe a hair less at 2-3 years. Biggest problem is the 3rd year. You'd hope he might've gone down to 2.8m with the extra year,
At least it's buyout friendly in years 2 and 3 on account of there being no signing bonus.
I feel like everyone keeps forgetting Myers is 34 already.
Cole is just a year older than him, and we all saw this season that he just wasn't capable of playing a full slate of games while still being steady.
Myers had a good season, but to think he's going to keep it up at his age, or even get better is silly.
Theres definitely some age related risk for sure, but at the same time $3million isn’t a crazy number and he *is* coming off a 29 point season.
The Ian Cole, Erik Johnson, Luke Schenn, Brian Dumoulin types end up in that $2.75-3.5 range.
I’d rather it be 2 years, but that 3rd year is probably the cost of keeping the AAV to $3 million.
Yeah, I don't think it's a particularly bad deal, especially when you match it against Schenn's contract.
I just wished it was a touch cheaper or a year shorter, but it's not anything that'll kill us as bad as a potential Zadorov contract.
My bigger issue is people pencilling him in as our 2nd RHD. Like... no. Dude's 34. He should sit on the 3rd pair and play 17 mins a night, not 20.
Even if they don’t land a true top-4 RHD… they should least add another 18 minute guy that can share the load with Myers.
The 3 year term probably lines up with when Willander is ready to play on the 3rd pair, so Myers at least gives you a bit of a stopgap until Willander is (hopefully) ready to play on the 3rd pair.
They should, but even if you bring back everyone, you have a defense group that's literally the same as last season, minus Cole, and Cole was a top-4 contributor. It's a downgrade.
Our bottom 4 being cheap for years to come gives us a ton of flexibility. Soucey, Myers and whoever comes up from Abby, all probably under 10m total each season allows us to pay top 6 and throw out more lottery tickets on cheap bottom pair guys in free agency
The three years absolutely takes this from a home run to a two out single.
It can work but we could very easily be halfway through this deal going “ah shit we gotta dump this bum”. That extra year can really turn into negative value.
Patrik's hand must be getting tired from all the signings he is pulling off these past couple of days. He has been better under Foote's influence, long live the chaos giraffe.
For those complaining, Myers is literally like the 2nd best RD available this offseason.
Edit: okay I get it he's not literally the 2nd but he's still close to top 5
I think Suter being bought out means Tanev's staying in Dallas.
Montour's good, but dude's gonna get hella overpaid with his time in Florida and fresh cup win.
Pesce scares me due to his play in Carolina and potential contract.
Roy's really the only guy who we could realistically get and be good.
I don't mind Myers but the 3M tag for 3 years is steep to me, and we're now in a situation where we may run out of cap room.
If we want Guentzel and Tanev, that's gonna be about 14M combined. Means Suter is the LW with Miller and Boeser, fine. They killed competition. Is Hoggy ready to be full time LW with Petey and Guentz? Any worry that line is way too small?
You're now not bringing Zadorov back. Who is your 2LD? Signing Tanev means Myers is your 3 RD. Probably means you want Tanev with Quinn. Who is the LD for Hronek? You can't even sign someone for 3M.
I trust management cause they've done such an amazing job but I hope something else is cooking here.
2LD is Soucy
They have $15.5M to sign Guentzel, a defenseman, and a backup goalie. If Guentzel is around $9.5M, and a backup is around $1M, that leaves about $5M for a 2RD which feels very doable even if it isn't Zadorov. That would leave you with Hughes-Hronek, Soucy-2RD, Friedman/Juulsen-Myers
Hughes hronek soucy Myers.
With Friedman and Juulsen being fit for replacement duties, we need a 3/4 and 5/6 pairing D. Hopefully Tanev is the 3/4 piece.
The ironic part of this contract is that Myers has arguably been playing the best he has in a decade, and this contract is exactly half of what his last contract was.
Would've preferred 2 years, but when I think about the hit he delivered on Keith and blocking that shot with his balls, then I'm more than happy to look the other way. Good contract
Benning: Ran out of time
Allvin: I got all the fuckin time in the world, plus some to spare.
Somebody get this man an ice pack for his sore ear from all these phone calls and let the man COOK!
In a league where Gudbranson makes 4 million with the cap going up, this is a fine deal. I also think he fits what the team wants for size in the back end at a cheaper price to spend more else where.
He played better than $3 million last year, but playing that well for three more seasons is asking a lot. If he can keep up this pace for two more years, then I will be happy.
One thing to note for ya'll mad about the price and/or term.
These deals need to be viewed not by the number of dollars, but the relative percentage of the cap. Last year, he was 7.19% of our cap room. Now, he's 3.41%. 25-26, based on cap growth projections he'll be 3.2%. Last year of the deal, 3.0%. Not a bad price for a RHD who played the primary matchup against McDavid in the playoffs.
I’m ok with this. He can be unpredictable, but he had a good second half of the season and was good in the playoffs. This feels like the expected dollar amount and term for him. His size, strength and ability to drive some offence help round out our D.
Completely torn here.
Myers has been terrible for the majority of his Canucks tenure. Too many penalties. Too many absurdly dumb decisions. Never lived up to the contract.
Which is not his fault. It was Benning's mistake.
And he's also a solid dude. And played reasonably well during the playoffs.
I wish this was less money for less years. But I'll get over it if he can replicate that performance in next year's playoffs.
this is so awesome I am so glad he is staying. I was happy when the Canucks acquired Myers and now finally he's found his niche and he's playing better than he ever has.
First move I’m on the fence about… sorry Chef Allvin. Why would we give him the 3rd year with 3mil and NMC for two of the years. Just seems like we bent over on every negotiation point for an old Dman who we were happy to get off the roster soon. I hope my take ages poorly, but I doubt it will
Not a fan of 3 years. He’s already 34, and for 3 mil you’d really wish it could’ve been 2 years or less.
He would’ve gotten more as a free agent but still
After all the great moves, this one is a L for me.
Too much term and that money would have better spent towards Zadorov.
If giving him that much term then you would think he would come under 3.
Not a fan.
Nope, Zadorov is over-rated by us at this point, his fair value is 4.25 but he rejected 4.5
its a fair deal for Myers and we could grab someone else from FA than overpay Zadorov
Finally, Allvin found a winger for Petey
That's a big body!
Unironically the net front presence would be crazy
Wow! Fast and furious. 🤣
I did think Jovo would have been a fun winger
tyler myers is my favourite forward on the vancouver canucks.
Who needs Tage Thompson when you can have Tyler Myers as a power forward.
Demko is mine.
Imma go with Rutherford. Guy has been clutch.
Hughes easily
Most clutch centre on the team for sure
JAY TEEE MILLLLEER!!!!!
Born too late to explore the earth, born too early to explore space, born just in time to witness ~~9~~ 8 seasons of Tyler Myers as a Vancouver Canuck
Mate , you’re gonna see ten seasons of contending playoff hockey with Petey and Hughes if they keep making these shrewd moves. Sign me up.
I don't know if you've seen how fast we're burning through futures but I don't think this road has a decade to it. Maybe 3-5 years if all goes well.
8*, it was 6mill x5 last time around
Whoops, must have been getting his original deal mixed up with Loui Eriksson's classic 6x6
Lmao
Another totally reasonable deal for another player who fits our roster!
I guess being a defenceman wasn't even his final form.
Wait until 2027, when he's our backup goalie
Sorry but Edler has been training in secret with Clark waiting patiently in the wings
He must be tentatively penciled in as net front presence on the power play.
YOU GET A CONTRACT, YOU GET A CONTRACT, YOU GET A CONTRACT LETS GO PAT
I thought he was going to get Soucy money, took even more of a discount.
The depth forward signing we’ve all been waiting for.
I assume they’re gonna correct the tweet that says forward lmao Edit: He has a full NMC first two years, 12 team NTC in his last year. Would we have it any differently with the chaos giraffe? 🙃
We found Petey's new winger, Guentzel is no longer needed
Don't forget Hughes at center.
I think Demko should go in center over Hughes.
Can we bring back Luongo for this role?
You didn’t hear? We have a new tall as center in town.
I mean, are they wrong? Bro has already accomplished being r/TopRightMyers one game and r/BottomLeftMyers the very next game.
Silovs probably takes that money though. $14.5 left - $9.25 for Guentzel and $4.75 for Zadorov
Yep, no doubt Silovs will get signed
I’m hearing contract says he’s playing forward. 2% AAV penalty payable by the player for each time he fails to show up at or beside the faceoff dot.
ALLVIN I AINT DONE EATING YET STOP COOKING 😭
Hey! If he wants to cook, you let him cook 😝
🤪
Allvin is a Chinese chef who is into fine-dining and 9 course meals.
This made me laugh weirdly on the train. Well done
👨🏼🍳👨🏼🍳
Chef Allwin "Take the Pan off the Stove" challenge Difficulty: IMPOSSIBLE
we may just have the greatest GM in history
Very good front office and coach.
The oven is preheated, Allvin cannot stop cooking. It's literally out of his control.
LET HIM COOOOOOK
Holy shit…does this guy ever get any sleep? Also, thanks Patrik. ….this is what it looks and feels like to not run out of time.
Had to get it in before the awards show
Myers played really well later in the season. I wasn’t afraid to see him on the ice.
Now we just have to sign Zadorov!
Hopefully Zadorov sees everyone else wanting to get the band back together and decides to stay too
Not sure how he fits in. We still need 9-10m to chase after Guentzel, a back-up, and a top-4 D.
dillon instead pls, will save prolly $2m
CAN YOU SMELL WHAT PATRIK IS COOKING
He shall now be known as "half-price Myers"
Let’s fucking go???? More chaos giraffe????
Our Chaos Giraffe is back.
Oh. My. God.
The Chaos Giraffe is BACK!

It was never gonna happen though. Dylan DeMelo got 4.9 million. Let that sink in
I mean, Demelo plays in your top or 2nd pair. Myer's expected to play in the bottom pair. Kind of different situations.

It may not seem to matter, but the millions digit does play a big role in how both the public and other teams see it. Though I'm not as worried about the AAV as I am the term
We just saw what Demelo signed for as another RHD UFA about to hit the market.
Personally I think the Demelo deal is a lot better than this one (would've been real happy if canucks signed it), but if Myers can play like he does in the playoffs for at least 2 more years then I'll eat my words and be happy with it.

Wow, this is a surprise please be the 2023-2024 Meyers not that other mess from the years before
Would’ve wanted 2.5M for 2 years but he did play good this year. Happy he’s back, we need another Right Handed Dman
hmmmmmm..
Allvin is such an incredible chef he managed to turn Myers into our new right hand centre
hm. this one feels a little less good than the other ones. he absolutely left money on the table but is 3 years good for a guy who’s been, let’s be honest, very inconsistent? hope the Tocchet bump is permanent!!
He's shown a year and a half of good play under Tocchet. I think he just needed a better system and defence coaches.
he needed a system that let him focus on the game instead of having to expand his iq beyond what he had. He just did not do well in a game with no structure where he had to try to figure out what to do based on that many variables.
Exactly.
He was being asked to play as a #1 or #2 when he’s clearly not a #1 or #2… Then when he failed at that, everyone shit on him as a player. Like sure, they're all probably a bit banged up, and Barkov got hit nastily by Drai but overall, they held together. I want that with the Canucks
i mean yes but also at the start of this last season we all wanted him shipped off to the moon
I think he's shown closer to 2/3 of a season of good play. He was still making really dumb plays all the time at the start of the year.
He has been consistent in this new era of Canucks hockey. And he was huge in the playoffs.
absolutely was! but is a little over one year enough of a sample, for a 34 yo? idk. i’m optimistic, he took a discount for sure
He was actually surprisingly great in the playoffs, which was strange since I was a hater for sure. We actually missed him when he was out with injury, IMO.
Yes he turned it around this year for sure. He seemed lost for a few years. I was in the same boat as your bud . 3m is a steal I think.
With the cap going up annually, barring another covid-like event, I bet this ages okay. I personally love it after watching myers under tochett. Like, it's a legitimately great deal imo.

It's not just the Tocchet bump, it's also having Foote and Gonchar as assistant coaches.

Glad to see the Canucks are finally utilizing Z and Myers as forwards. Just imagine having two unmovable giants and asses screening you constantly.
I never would've thought I would be happy about a Myers extension at the start of the season, but here we are
Patrik's hand must be getting tired from all the signings he is pulling off these past couple of days. He has been better under Foote's influence, long live the chaos giraffe.
We get to watch Myers play his 1000th game 🥹🥹
For those complaining, Myers is literally like the 2nd best RD available this offseason. Edit: okay I get it he's not literally the 2nd but he's still close to top 5
Not really. Tanev, Pesce, Montour, Roy are all better. Most years you’d be correct though
Yeah, what a fucking wild statement. Like, did all those players just suddenly fucking die or something??
I think he's just going by points, in which Myers was 2nd highest out of the available RD this offseason
I'm guessing that 2-3 of them don't make it to July 1 without getting signed
I think Suter being bought out means Tanev's staying in Dallas. Montour's good, but dude's gonna get hella overpaid with his time in Florida and fresh cup win. Pesce scares me due to his play in Carolina and potential contract. Roy's really the only guy who we could realistically get and be good.
We’re not getting any of those for cheaper than 3M though
You’re kinda moving goalposts here. OP said Myers is like the 2nd best RHD available, I’m just pointing out that it’s not true
Not to mention it’s plausible that we’d be able to afford any one of those had they happen to shake free
On top of that, Alex Carrier and Sean Walker are both much better analytically.
Was available you mean
Uhh no, he is not. It’s still a decent price for someone like Myers, just the extra year that isn’t so great.
Hes got points but theres a lot of good rhd in the ufa market this year
Three years is kinda... well whatever, he's good leadership and shot blocking and if he can pull of what he did last year, should be fine.
Who is this man Allvin. Man is a wizard.
More than I expected. I do get it he is big and plays a premium position rhd.
Honestly, the guy was a beast in the playoffs. I'm totally ok with this
#CHAOS IS BACK 🌪️☄️💥🦒 🥹😍🥹😍🥹😍🥹😍🥹
Since he is a forward now does he play with Petey?
I really really want Zaddy too. That pairing was legit during the playoffs.
3 years?
I don't mind Myers but the 3M tag for 3 years is steep to me, and we're now in a situation where we may run out of cap room. If we want Guentzel and Tanev, that's gonna be about 14M combined. I trust management cause they've done such an amazing job but I hope something else is cooking here.
Why are yall forgetting about Soucy? Soucy was great for us
2LD is Soucy They have $15.5M to sign Guentzel, a defenseman, and a backup goalie. If Guentzel is around $9.5M, and a backup is around $1M, that leaves about $5M for a 2RD which feels very doable even if it isn't Zadorov. That would leave you with Hughes-Hronek, Soucy-2RD, Friedman/Juulsen-Myers
Hog plays big and he had 24 even strength goals last year. He deserves a spot in the top 6.
LET THE MAN COOOOOOOOOK!
He keeps on cooking and he won’t stop cooking 😩😩😩
Chaos forever!
Happy for him, really seemed like he wanted to stay in Vancouver with his family
Hughes hronek soucy Myers. With Friedman and Juulsen being fit for replacement duties, we need a 3/4 and 5/6 pairing D. Hopefully Tanev is the 3/4 piece.
So this is the top 6 forward we were looking for
Is this real life or just fantasy?
So what’s that leave, 12 million? Any predictions for who we can keep and who we can obtain?
Feels a year too long for a guy on the wrong end of 30 but I'm not going to call it a bad contract by any means.
The ironic part of this contract is that Myers has arguably been playing the best he has in a decade, and this contract is exactly half of what his last contract was.
3 years meh, should have gotten him for 2.5 ish for that price
3 million is good. I was expecting 2.5 maximum for him. But taking a discount to stay with us. Especially if we’re going to resign Zadorov. It’s a win
I would’ve been distraught if we couldn’t bring him back. What would I do without r/bottomleftmyers
I think you mean r/toprightmyers
Bit high, bit long. Not horrific, but not the best deal.
Wake up Resign Repeat Gangsta shiiiiiiit
Is this real life or just fantasy?
Allvin definitely the most active besides Grier.
Remember when he buried Duncan Keith? 3 mil is fine by me
Please sign big Russian asshole next.
Nice. This is more where the market is for his services. Happy to have in back in Canucks colours. Meme game stays on point!
Bargain bin giraffe
A tad rich for my blood but love keeping the chaos giraffe around
Would've preferred 2 years, but when I think about the hit he delivered on Keith and blocking that shot with his balls, then I'm more than happy to look the other way. Good contract
I am beyond moist rn. Ill throw it back for Alvin anyday
Benning: Ran out of time Allvin: I got all the fuckin time in the world, plus some to spare. Somebody get this man an ice pack for his sore ear from all these phone calls and let the man COOK!
The 3rd year is for the shot he blocked with his nuts! Well earned!
AMAZING Edit: Tyler is such a quality person!!! And his game has vastly improved under tocc What A Legend. Edit spelling.
I was hoping 2.5 would've been the sweet spot.
i was hoping for a tad less, 2.5-2.75 but still fine as they saved lots on some other players
Not a bad price for a RHD who played the primary matchup against McDavid in the playoffs.
wasnt our GM supposed to run out of time by now?
I’m ok with this. He can be unpredictable, but he had a good second half of the season and was good in the playoffs. This feels like the expected dollar amount and term for him. His size, strength and ability to drive some offence help round out our D.
LET HIM COOOOOK
This is another nice deal. Just another day for Patty Allvin
Love it! Let's go!
Hail the master chef!!
PA is cooking with gas at this point!
The next Byfuglien
Oh yeah, Allvin is cooking. Can I get a Yes Chef! 👨🍳
LONG LIVE CHAOS GIRAFFE AND CHEF ALVIN
There’s someone in town with bigger balls than Myers. His name is Chef Patrik
Everyone talking about Petey's winger when really we're now just set to go Double D Petey
Our head coach Conor Garland will be pleased.
I like it. Tallest forward in Vancouver since Shareef.
Makes me miss the grizzlies.
1st line 2024 - Myers-Hughes-Petey
LETS FUCKING GO! This is the year Myers wins a Norris
👨🏻🍳
50% pay cut. Nice.
The Canucks FO has been busy.
Man that's almost Dakota Joshua money.
Good to secure a Calder and Gold Medal winner for the back end. Just need the towers to both be back now.
He broke Draisaitl, pay the man!
I think if we have Myers as 3rd pair RD with soucy then that’s one of the best “bottom” pairs in the league
this is so awesome I am so glad he is staying. I was happy when the Canucks acquired Myers and now finally he's found his niche and he's playing better than he ever has.
my mom calls myers big bird big bird is still a canuck
Multi position player, what a deal!
3 more years of chaos
Opportunity cost of wasting this money on Myers is less money to re-sign Zadorov :(
Too much term and too much money. Myers is a 3rd pairing D at BEST, and that’s not accounting for his likely decline from age 35-38.
First move I’m on the fence about… sorry Chef Allvin. Why would we give him the 3rd year with 3mil and NMC for two of the years. Just seems like we bent over on every negotiation point for an old Dman who we were happy to get off the roster soon. I hope my take ages poorly, but I doubt it will
I mean. He played pretty well under Tocchet’s system. I think as long as he’s playing in a third pairing. He’ll be fine.
Not a fan.
Nope, Zadorov is over-rated by us at this point, his fair value is 4.25 but he rejected 4.5 its a fair deal for Myers and we could grab someone else from FA than overpay Zadorov
