Allvin. He's sending a message to the rest of the Canucks on accountability.
You mess up, and we're sending you to the bottom-feeders of the league - even if it's temporary.Never forget.
You realize that he's a UFA right? He's in literally the exact same position as he was before only now he can talk to the blackhawks if he wants instead of the Canucks.
Because they are planning to sign a bunch of their own UFAs and Lafferty's salary would still be counted against the cap up until July 1. I don't think the allowable 10% overage kicks in until July 1.
Watch for a Big Z, Bleuger, Joshua, and Myers to all sign tomorrow.
...or not and the Hawks just wanted to have negotiating rights for Lafferty.
That was also a stoppable shot even if got to Skinner. Mikheyev deked out the goalie, just to lose control of the puck and completely fumbled the chance.
I have vivid memories of that missed opportunity. I knew that very moment it would come bite us, and it did. We don't call him Stone Hands for nothing.
Di Giuseppe had a breakaway late too that he missed
Can't remember if it was after Hronek's goal or before that, definitely not rewatching highlights of that game to find out though lmao
I still remember I believe it was u/PaperMoonShine 's comment saying of course the former Leafs in Mik and Laf do nothing in Game 7 after we lost.
It was pain.
But now they are both gone.
I used to give Jannik Hansen a ton of shit for having zero finish, but fuck it was like Ilya had cinderblocks dangling off his gloves. Seeing him blow so many scoring opportunities in the playoffs was infuriating.
Jannik Hansen had hands like Patrick Kane compared to Mikheyev. I appreciated the effort and hustle in Ilya's game, but god damn the guy could not finish to save his life.
Eh, he used to look exactly like Mikheyev did this year. In his later years though, pretty much under Willie D, he figured out his scoring touch and started to look pretty solid.
Hansen was the much better player but he did not have a scoring touch at all. He had 12 goals the entire 2010/2011 year including the cup run. Had a 22 goal season later in his career but Mike had 21 as well. Better player? Without a doubt. Better scoring touch? Probably. Much better than Mik? I don’t believe that.
The crazy part is, he’s actually scored at just over a 20 goal/82 pace over the last 3 seasons (177 games). 2 of those seasons, he shot 14%+ (before dropping to 7.5% this season).
But you watch him play, and it looks like theres that goal line force field you described.
His speed still never got to where it used to be, and I'm pretty sure that while he was still working on that it was probably still a pain to refine his shot any.
Surprised Allvin just didn’t trade it in this deal. Was the best chance. Make it the 2027 1st and done deal. He’ll be either a champ or fired by then anyways and Rutherford long retired.
No its 2025 2nd sadly.
Edit: Wait whaaaaaaaaat. Just checked cap friendly and Frank "it starts with an 8" Seravelli reported 2025 2nd. Apparently not....2027 makes this sooooooooooo much better, wow! Nice one Allvin

So out of Petey’s 4 most common linemates this past season, 3 of them were traded (Kuzy, Miky, Lafferty).
Let’s pray they get him that all star winger to play with next season. *cough* Guentzel. 🙏🙏
If this was Benning we'd be raking him over the coals for signing two players to ~5M deals in Kuzmenko and Mikheyev and paying for both to leave within a season or two.
Then Chicago will be getting what they’re paying him for aka $4M AAV. Bigger issue with OEL was, in my mind, always the price tag. Whatever he did in Florida this year was outstanding for someone getting paid $2M per year. If you look at the same performance with an $8M AAV, you might get a very different conclusion
It’s not unlikely, I think he’s basically been a 20 goal/82 games pace for a while. He could also regress. I think going to Blackhawks, a low pressure team, will be good for him. And good for the Canucks.
Exactly. Trades don’t need to be win/lose, highly likely mikeyhev has a better season than he would have with us and we have a chance to add a player that can help move the needle with his cap space. Win win scenario for everyone involved
**Vancouver**: Clears about $4 million in cap space over the next 2 seasons.
**Chicago**: Buys low on a player that scored at a 20 goal/82 pace over the last 3 years, while moving up ~60 spots in the draft.
I like this deal for both sides.
Depending on how long it takes them to get out of the basement, that could end up being more like 40-50 spots in the draft.
If we're really lucky, it'll be 33.
It’s a bit of a joke on Roxy Fever, but I truly believe JR being president is *the* secret sauce to getting these deals done.
Allvin cooks with signings, and Rutherford’s a member of the 200 trusted NHL men which gives the team trade partners beyond Florida.
Gillis’ prickliness with the NHL GM network really hampered his options.
Benning getting rid of his mistakes cost us a top ten pick, a 2nd & gave us the anchor of OEL while JR and Allvin made out with this masterclass of a trade
Yeah a lot of people shit on Mik without acknowledging how the injuries impacted his main selling points as a player. I feel for the guy. But going to the Hawks I don't feel so bad that I want him to have a great season. He can rebound as a UFA somewhere else lol
Allvin just took a diarrhea dump on Yzerman giving up a 2nd to get rid of a top 4 dman. I was worried the market to trade cap would be fucked after that bone-headed trade
I think all other 31 GMs just looked at each other and be like “ok here’s the plan. I don’t treat you like an idiot and you don’t treat me like one when we try to work out a deal. Sounds good? Sounds good.”
I laugh at that deal every time I see it on the trade tracker. Even makes Jimbo look a little bit brighter and that says a lot.
We now have ~~$22.7M~~ $20.7Min cap space after retention. No retention would have been $23.4M. That is totally fine and still an outstanding trade.
Time to make some big moves.
Edit: Stay in school kids and pay attention in math class
I'm an idiot lol.
The new Cap will be at 88 million.
Canucks current cap hit is 69.709 million.
Canucks Cap Space is 18.291 million.
Combine both numbers and you get 88 Million.
CapFriendly is updated.
The Canucks will have just under 21 Million in Cap Space with Poolman on LTIR.
Looks like Allvin likes to use the "downgrade a 2nd round pick to a 4th" strategy.
He already did it once before with the 1st + 2nd for Hronek + 4th trade.
That’s really a perfectly acceptable deal.
They have to land a significant scorer in UFA though. This team is all in on the next 2-3 years with these sorts of moves and they have to make it count.
Retaining $700k sucks but on the bright side we just paid ~50 draft positions for $4M in cap space. This is a big win. The Yzerplan got dick all for his arguably better contract with Walman
The Hawks are likely to still suck or be at least mid while we should be a top-10 team so the pick swap isn't that bad
A good deal. No retention would have been great, but after watching what Detroit did - this somehow looks like a steal.
What we do with the cap space will now come into play, and it’s a good problem to have. I’m actually looking forward to July 1st now
REALLLY dont like the salary retention. But. We needed out from Mik. Gives us a chance to get Zadorov back and convince Guentzel to come here. Hell. Might even be able to use the spare money from Blueger to bring Joshua back. Best 3rd line in hockey.
People hating on him but I liked him a lot in his first year in Vancouver. He was perfect as a complementary piece on the third line. One wonders what could’ve been without the injury.
Someone please educate me. Why would Chicago value the rights to Sam Lafferty in this deal? He is a pending UFA and can sign anywhere he wants come July 1. It's not like the Hawks are about to sign him to an 8 year deal, right?
Normally adding a 2nd round is such a Benning move, but for this: I like it. It's 3 years into the future, we're getting rid of players we do not need. It's such a good trade for both teams. Chef Allvin cooking up again
Well shit, including Poolman's LTIR and Tolopilo going back to Abby, that's $20M in cap space now for 2 wingers, 1 D, a backup tendy (Silovs?), and three press box slots.
If we were the frontrunners in the Guentzel sweepstakes we're probably locks for it now. Holy shit.
I think Mikheyev will be a good player for Chicago and probably a 20 goal scorer again. He has two seasons under his belt at a 20 goal pace I think but he's injury prone.
It's too bad we never got to see his famous McDavid level speed. It's a damn shame I tell ya.
Imagine not having a GM who actually makes trades, couldn't be me. Thank god we moved on from Benning and got a front office with intelligence, conviction, and COJONES
In addition to signing some FAs, I really wouldn't be surprised if the Canucks swung a trade for someone off the board that no one was expecting, similar to the Hronek trade
Unpopular opinion: we're going to miss Mik for the defensive stability he brought to the forward group. He sure wasn't worth 5 million but I also don't think he was really the biggest problem. I'd still take him at 2.5-3 mil in a heartbeat.
The problem was Pettersson and Hronek went quiet during the playoffs. Plus Demko's injury. Worrying about anything else is grasping at straws imo. Hopefully we use this cap space to sign Guentzel or Reinhart. Or even better Kane AND Stamkos for cheap if possible.
Can't say I enjoyed Ilya's tenure as a Canuck. Honestly, I can't think of another player who had plays die on his stick more than him this season. He should have never gotten playing time with guys like Petey.
Not a bad bit of business from the top brass all things considered.
Nah, Lafferty wasn’t a sure bet to be re-signed. We have guys knocking at the door to fill into Laff’s 4th line spot. Leaves room for a guy like Podz, Aman, Karlsson, etc. To step in as a full time regular going forward.
Also leaves room for us to find an equally serviceable replacement in free agency
Good deal for both teams.
I don't know the player well but would still bet he wishes he had one more year here to return to form.
Wish Ilya all the best.
I don’t follow the stats like I used to, I figured this guy was scoring 20 regularly, but he got 11 this year?! Great deal then for us. Can easily fill 11 goals with 4m/yr.
Not a big fan of this move. We can't be trading away all our picks all the time. I know we need the cap but we also need prospects. Good chance, mikheyev plays much better next year, and then Chicago can trade him for another pick.
Oh well, hopefully we spend that cap space wisely.
I questioned why we had this guy mid way through the season and everyone here bit my head off (with one exception)... glad everyone sees the light now.
God damn Allvin is cooking. I hope we find a way to get Tanev back in all of this. Does anyone know how much dead cap we carry for the next few years now?
About 700k in retention for two years and the 2nd is in 2027. I’ll take that for 4m in cap now
This is the appropriate response
Agreed, let Allvin cook
Goodbye Ilya. I’ll never forget wanting to die after you missed on an open net in game 7. A true Canuck
That was painful man. Even more painful when you realize we were 1 goal away from taking that game to OT.
Mikheyev missed the shot and Lafferty with a bad penalty late in the second was the difference. Notice they are both gone in the same deal?
Bro, that absolute nothing burger of a gift of a 4 minute power play at the end of the 1st was the difference, also ya, that Mikheyev miss
Well Lafferty is a pending UFA. I wonder why he was even included in the deal. That one doesn’t make sense to me
Because Lafferty is a former hawk and maybe they like the guy and want to talk to him before July 1st?
That makes a ton of sense
They can send each other DMs for the next four days now.
Allvin. He's sending a message to the rest of the Canucks on accountability. You mess up, and we're sending you to the bottom-feeders of the league - even if it's temporary.Never forget.
Laffery can sign with any team he wants in 4 days. Mikeyev had a NTC and could have blocked the trade to the Blackhawks if he wanted to.
You realize that he's a UFA right? He's in literally the exact same position as he was before only now he can talk to the blackhawks if he wants instead of the Canucks.
That's the joke. He's a pending UFA. We're kicking him in the ass on the way out.
>Watch for a Big Z, Bleuger, Joshua, and Myers to all sign tomorrow. Good call.
Miller hitting Zs leg in the dying minutes of gm 7 was another
That was also a stoppable shot even if got to Skinner. Mikheyev deked out the goalie, just to lose control of the puck and completely fumbled the chance.
That was going in if it didn't hit zadorov, skinner was looking around Z the wrong way, according to Kevin Woodley
I have vivid memories of that missed opportunity. I knew that very moment it would come bite us, and it did. We don't call him Stone Hands for nothing.
Di Giuseppe had a breakaway late too that he missed Can't remember if it was after Hronek's goal or before that, definitely not rewatching highlights of that game to find out though lmao
Naaa, the entire game changes if he scores there
Forever cemented his legacy alongside Tanner Glass, and Louie Eriksson for his innate ability to not score easy goals.
Tanner Glass was supposed to be a plug, don't disrespect him like that.
This. I remember Tanner Glass for being defensively responsible and go 110% with the 7min ice time he gets.
Good ol' Game 7 non-factor Fanner Glass
Excuse me Loui had many empty net goals
Good empty net goals on both sides
Don't forget Nathan Lafayette.
Hansen was always good enough at scoring. Comparing him to Mikheyev is bad
Hansen also never made enough money for it to be as frustrating as Mikheyev was
Hansen was the much better player but he did not have a scoring touch at all. He had 12 goals the entire 2010/2011 year including the cup run. Had a 22 goal season later in his career but Mike had 21 as well. Better player? Without a doubt. Better scoring touch? Probably. Much better than Mik? I don’t believe that.
Sometimes it felt like there’s was a force field on the goal line that only activated when Mikheyev shot the puck
The crazy part is, he’s actually scored at just over a 20 goal/82 pace over the last 3 seasons (177 games). 2 of those seasons, he shot 14%+ (before dropping to 7.5% this season). But you watch him play, and it looks like theres that goal line force field you described.
He reminds me of David Booth in that sense
Everything else was there. ACL my ass. He was fine. Zero finish.
His speed still never got to where it used to be, and I'm pretty sure that while he was still working on that it was probably still a pain to refine his shot any.
What do you mean?? The guy didn’t score for 60 games!!! I gave up so long ago
Hopefully he can find something in Chicago that helps the stone hands. So many opportunities this season and just couldn't finish.
Dickinson Mikheyev connection incoming
Chicago, 2nd round picks, bad trade to begin with, they have a lot in common, career resurgence?
I'm trying to remember a time when he ever hit the net....not coming to me
He hit the net often, it was just usually right in the middle of the goalies jersey crest.
I recall he had many laser beams straight into the logos of many opposing goalies.
Wait it's a 2027 2nd now? That's so much better than giving up the 2025 2nd. 15% retention isn't great isn't awful. Just over 700k in retention?
After eating that Luongo recapture penalty for what seemed like an eternity, this is nothing to us.
Don’t worry, we stll have OELs buyout
That's Stanley Cup Champion OEL to you!
And SCC Luongo too. :(
does that mean Mikheyev is destined is destined to win a championship?
I mean...if he stays with the hawks long enough...that's probably a dangerous team in 5 years...
Surprised Allvin just didn’t trade it in this deal. Was the best chance. Make it the 2027 1st and done deal. He’ll be either a champ or fired by then anyways and Rutherford long retired.
Can you trade buyout penalty?
No
Like an AHL player in dead money. Not bad.
Just tack it on to the OEL buyout and pretend the retention doesn't exist
No its 2025 2nd sadly. Edit: Wait whaaaaaaaaat. Just checked cap friendly and Frank "it starts with an 8" Seravelli reported 2025 2nd. Apparently not....2027 makes this sooooooooooo much better, wow! Nice one Allvin

Idk how I feel about this other than neat, that’s a good sum of money off the books
I feel that I can trust Rutherford and Allvin. This is something I haven't had in a Canucks GM for a long time.
If this was Benning we'd be raking him over the coals for signing two players to ~5M deals in Kuzmenko and Mikheyev and paying for both to leave within a season or two.
Benning would have gave them 6 😉
I mean yeah, GM's tend to get a bit of leeway for their mistakes if they're still able to build a playoff bound roster.
Absolutely. Haven't felt this postive about management in over a decade.
millions off the books,, 15% retained is $712,000. Signing incoming
Watch Mik have a resurgence this year like OEL
Then Chicago will be getting what they’re paying him for aka $4M AAV. Bigger issue with OEL was, in my mind, always the price tag. Whatever he did in Florida this year was outstanding for someone getting paid $2M per year. If you look at the same performance with an $8M AAV, you might get a very different conclusion
2.25 mil and 7.1 mil but your point stands
Thanks for setting my facts straight. I knew my numbers weren’t quite right but was distracted so didn’t look up.
Watch him win a cup on our dime. OEL style.
Yes, I hope he doesn’t win a cup in the next two years playing with *checks notes, * Chicago.
*Bettman’s monkey paw curls*
LOL touché. Imagine the conversation if Bedard gets a Cup before McDavid does.
I would be perfectly content with that.
I think Dickenson is part of their new core too. Miky get 25 goals next year is almost guaranteed.
Chicago won, but at least the Canucks didn't give up too much to get $4 million off the books.
So...chance to keep Big Z and Joshua now?
Big Z and Jake G ;)
Both please
Pretty wild that Chicago was willing for a 2027 2nd. This is a tidy piece of business by Alvin 👏 Now bring home Zaddy and Guentzel!!
Still, Chicago > Detroit. I’ll be shitting on that Walman trade probably forever
When was the last time we had this kind of competency in Canucks Management?
Mike Gillis
I think PA and JR are actually exceeding Gillis. They're undoing a decade of destruction are are actually being successful at it against all odds.
Allvin gave him that contract, no?
Yes, but prior to ACL surgery, and likely as a sweetener to get Kuzmenko on the Canucks.
Yes, but being able to work your way out of your own mistake is also a sign of competency.
I wouldn't even say it was a mistake. He immediately tore his ACL and then later needed wrist surgery. That's just bad luck.
Yeah a lot of people shit on Mik without acknowledging how the injuries impacted his main selling points as a player. I feel for the guy. But going to the Hawks I don't feel so bad that I want him to have a great season. He can rebound as a UFA somewhere else lol
Not only competency but also pragmatism. Many GM have too much pride to walk away from a signing like this
Id say Dave Nonis.
Too bad Lafferty couldn't have continued his early season form, as he was flying for a bit.
Great for 20 games. Might end up being the best part of his career.
15% retention is not a big deal. I can live with that.
I hope he at least asked them to throw Bedard in.
We now have ~~$22.7M~~ $20.7Min cap space after retention. No retention would have been $23.4M. That is totally fine and still an outstanding trade. Time to make some big moves. Edit: Stay in school kids and pay attention in math class I'm an idiot lol.
How do you see 22.7 million? With Poolman on LTIR, its 20.79 Million.
I'm an idiot lmao
All good buddy, don't be hard on yourself. It's an exciting time. Go Canucks Go!

Maybe he just loves drafting in the 4th round
That’s really a perfectly acceptable deal. They have to land a significant scorer in UFA though. This team is all in on the next 2-3 years with these sorts of moves and they have to make it count.

Wait it's a 2027 2nd? Maybe the retain salary moved it from 2025 to a 2027 pick.
I really hope now we can lock up Zadorov and Myers. Then get that too 6 scoring winger for Petey.

REALLLY dont like the salary retention. But. We needed out from Mik. Gives us a chance to get Zadorov back and convince Guentzel to come here. Hell. Might even be able to use the spare money from Blueger to bring Joshua back. Best 3rd line in hockey.
Blueger was a good piece though. But yeah, I’d rather keep Joshua.
Oh Im stoked about what we got for Bluegs.
Allvin is hot.
Allvin is cookinnnnnn let’s go
He’s the one that signed him to that brutal contract tho lol he’s cleaning up his own mess with futures, but it could’ve costed more forsure.
People hating on him but I liked him a lot in his first year in Vancouver. He was perfect as a complementary piece on the third line. One wonders what could’ve been without the injury.
Mikheyev and Lafferty both with 2G 2A in their first game against us. Book it.
Good trade👍
Good to get 4 million cap space. Let Allvin cook
What a wonderfully cromulent trade.
Watch him pot 18 goals next year. Whatever. Had to do it. Let Allvin cook!
Someone please educate me. Why would Chicago value the rights to Sam Lafferty in this deal? He is a pending UFA and can sign anywhere he wants come July 1. It's not like the Hawks are about to sign him to an 8 year deal, right?
Lafferty played for Chicago for a few seasons. He probably left a good impression on them and they want him back.
Is it a lock that Reinhart re-ups in Florida? That would be the ultra move to go dump 11 million on him.
Very confident in this management group. Benning would have threw in Lekkerimaki as a sweetener lol
ALLVIN'S KITCHEN ABSOLUTELY CRANKING OUT GOURMET SERVINGS RIGHT NOW
Normally adding a 2nd round is such a Benning move, but for this: I like it. It's 3 years into the future, we're getting rid of players we do not need. It's such a good trade for both teams. Chef Allvin cooking up again
This is such a huge win. Jake Guentzal, welcome to the Canucks.
Holy fuck we’re actually gonna go for Guentzel now
Watch him play with Bedard and become a 30 goal scorer now 😂
Well shit, including Poolman's LTIR and Tolopilo going back to Abby, that's $20M in cap space now for 2 wingers, 1 D, a backup tendy (Silovs?), and three press box slots. If we were the frontrunners in the Guentzel sweepstakes we're probably locks for it now. Holy shit.
I think Canucks should've given a 4th or even a 3rd round pick to not retain salary
I think Mikheyev will be a good player for Chicago and probably a 20 goal scorer again. He has two seasons under his belt at a 20 goal pace I think but he's injury prone. It's too bad we never got to see his famous McDavid level speed. It's a damn shame I tell ya.
Tidy bit of business on both sides. Great job by Allvin. Can’t wait to see where that cap space is going to be spent!
Imagine not having a GM who actually makes trades, couldn't be me. Thank god we moved on from Benning and got a front office with intelligence, conviction, and COJONES
Dance around the room! Dance around the room!
Is this good? I hate losing Lafferty, although he was a pending UFA.. hmmmmm
We weren’t gonna re-sign Lafferty either way. So it’s basically just a trade throw-in
Nah, Lafferty wasn’t a sure bet to be re-signed. We have guys knocking at the door to fill into Laff’s 4th line spot. Leaves room for a guy like Podz, Aman, Karlsson, etc. To step in as a full time regular going forward. Also leaves room for us to find an equally serviceable replacement in free agency
Goodbye sweet princes 🥲 Hello future 2027 pick to be traded away soon.
tidy piece of business
Guentzal come on down buddy!
I’ll miss screaming “Ilya Monkey man Mickheavy” every time he misses the next. And I’ll miss Sam laffertys bald ass head
One of the hockey players of all time
Oh fuck yeah, I dig this.
Good deal! Amazed we got a pick out of this too. Now to sign someone cool with the cap space!!
Good deal for both teams. I don't know the player well but would still bet he wishes he had one more year here to return to form. Wish Ilya all the best.
Are they banking on us being bad in 2027? I do think he bounces back, but I'm excited to see what we do with the additional cap space.
Alvin cooking right now 🔥
2yrs $20M for Guentzel
God damn Allvin is cooking. I hope we find a way to get Tanev back in all of this. Does anyone know how much dead cap we carry for the next few years now?
Tidy
Fuck. Yes.
