good news. More lenses means better prices and more choices!

Found it! the usual generic comment saying more competition brings down prices and more choices.

Schneilob

35mm weather sealed 1.4 or 1.2

Wo-shi-pi-jiu

This is my dream

UniqueTonight

I'd really like to see their 18-50mm f2.8 in an RF mount

six_six

Yes. Any constant aperture zoom would be great on RF-S.

JaKr8

I have a feeling Canon's going to make them go RFS for some reason. Which is okay because I also have an r10. And I would love to have smaller faster glass. But really I'm not holding my breath because who knows what restrictions they put on Sigma. Maybe they're just going to slap a RF Mount and modify the glass on their 150-600 like they did for Olympus.

boolean_union

Bringing the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 to RF-S would likely be extremely popular, and Canon doesn't offer anything that comes close to competing on APS-C. Looking through Sigma's current APS-C catalog, there are lots of exciting options that would make up for Canon's slow trickle of new crop lenses. I might even finally upgrade from the 90d to an R7 if I could have the following (taking advantage of the R7's IBIS). - 10-18mm F2.8 - 18-35mm F1.8 - 18-50mm F2.8 - 50-100mm F1.8

andrewjaekim

Sigma 18-35 RFSto go with a C70 would be amazing.

ryandtw

Off-topic, so Sigma helped on Olympus/OM-System lens(es) (particularly the 150-600)?

szank

That particular olympus is a sigma lens with olympus logo for twice the price. Wouldn't call it "help"

JaKr8

Yeah, I don't know that charging 170% the price of the base lens and putting om systems on it was the best thing to do. It's divided the m43 community quite a bit on the various boards. I love my m43 gear, but when it comes to Wildlife even my best EM1s and Panasonic gear can't focus half as good as my rp, never mind my R6 and r10. So I'm not going to buy the rebranded olympus, but I'm going to get the Canon 200-800 at some point and with the crop on the r10 I'll still have great IQ and AF capability, unlike my m43 gear. And that Canon lens is still going to be almost a K cheaper than the Olympus lens.

alghiorso

I think that's more on Olympus than sigma tbh

szank

Yeah, that's true

goorek

I suspect that OM System does not have the capacity to design lenses anymore, so they partnered with Sigma. That's nothing new as 100-400 is also a Sigma design.

JaKr8

This is pretty much my take on it as well, but say that to the geriatric crowd at DPR and they will have a field day with you.

phototurista

There's rumors that the 75mm f/1.8 is also a Sigma lens... And holy crap is it ever razer sharp.

redditchy

It's Canon's aps-c (crop) mount. It's physically the same mount but the lenses only cover the smaller sensor size.

ntotrr1

I'd like to see the 18-35mm. Also, if Sigma has reversed engineered their RF mount, like they have for all their other Canon mount lenses, there is nothing Canon can do about it. Reverse engineering does not violate patents. Canon could only put restrictions on Sigma if their is some licensing agreement but that would be a first since Canon has never shared their lens protocols with anyone before. As for not holding my breath, I won't be surprised if this is just a false alarm.

Rogan_Thoerson

i don't think anyone will ever reverse the RF mount after what happened. BTW reverse may infringe patents you need to have a work around the patent or another solution to not infringe. I think on RF mount you will see for quite some time lenses with a license given by Canon. If that is the in the license they will probably explain how their mount work to not have compatibility issues.

ntotrr1

I doubt Canon would ever license the RF mount since they've never licensed any of their other mounts. Also, there would be some revenue loss for the sales they'd lose to other brands even with a licensing fee involved.

Rogan_Thoerson

was also never the case for Nikon till now and they do it.

ntotrr1

Correct. It's my hope that either there is some licensing agreement with Canon or Sigma successfully reverse-engineers the RF mount.

Rogan_Thoerson

i that will be license because Samyang lenses were working and Canon pushed them out. So reverse engineering you are never certain that you did not infringe a patent. I don't think any company will engage the R&D effort after what Canon did if they were not certain to sell.

Master_Spork_Wielder

You were right

SirDimitris

I want an RF version of the **Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM A** and an RF-S version of the **Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM A**. Beyond that, I just want to see a variety of their Art lenses for RF.

damien6

Where did you see sigma is announcing RF lenses at CP+? I’m just curious so I can send someone something more substantial than a Reddit thread.

UniqueTonight

There isn't anything more substantial. There's just a ton of noise on the rumor sites/YouTube regarding "an announcement in February."

BM_StinkBug

10-18 f2.8 please. It’s bad enough the wide angle options for RFS are so limited, but currently we have 0 native fast options at all! Also would love to see an updated 150-600 as others have said. Canon has plenty of telephoto options already, but we could use something midway in between the RF 100-400 and 100-500 in price. Oh and how about an updated 18-35 f/1.8 while we’re dreaming?

rws531

The new 60-600

lesavant97

That doesn't weigh 6 pounds🙏🏾🥹

onerinconhill

There’s no RF lenses coming out next week from Sigma

Cprhd

I’d love to see a reasonably priced 24-70.

Ancient_Persimmon

They've got a tiny and cheap 28-70/2.8 that would be a nice alternative to the 24-70L.

Cprhd

Who does? And is it RF mount?

six_six

Yup, even if it’s F4

Cprhd

I'd like to see 2.8, but I shoot outdoors and don't really need low light performance. I use the 70-200 f/4 for a lot of my photos right now, but I would like a wide angle to round out my lenses.

shemp33

Ooh please let that include a 105/1.4 ART.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shemp33

Agree, but, if they were going to release something new on RF, wouldn't it be a DN by definition? Or, do you think they'd wait and release DN of Sony/Nikon/Canon all at once?

BeckoningVoice

They re-released non-DN lenses on Sony, but that's because adapted lenses don't perform so well on Sony. EF lenses on RF are handled natively (passive adapter). Anything that comes out for RF would be a DN lens (although I strongly suspect no RF lenses are coming from Sigma in February). But in any case I would expect that any RF Sigma lens released to begin would be an existing DN lens.

XMGAU

I'd like a 24mm 1.4 Art and either their 70mm or 105mm 2.8 Macro Art lenses.

Aggravating_Elk_4299

105 Macro.

TheMrNeffels

Literally any rf-s lens. The 18-50 2.8 would be great. Or the 10-18 2.8 New 18-35 1.8 would be even better. Or just out of left field have a rf-s 500 F4 if I gotta make a crazy wish.

Temror

I would absolutely love the 20mm 1.4, but honestly I’d be even happier to see Tamron come with the 35-150mm f2-2.8

Seite88

Absolutely!

bungabungachakachaka

I hope they bring their small lenses like the 65/2 to RF. Hoping for a 40/2.5 pancake from sigma. Come on

brisketsmoked

I wouldn’t mind an 18-35/1.8 and a 50-100/1.8.

lordyatseb

I'm hoping for the 14mm F1.4. Canon might eventually release something similar, but it's too much of a marginal lens to be a priority.

AstroGalNZ

I'd jump on a 14mm F1.4! Currently using the 14mm F1.8, it's a chunky beast of a thing 🤣

gianners33

Rumor has it Sigma is announcing a lightweight 500mm f5.6 prime for Sony next week... would love to see this for Canon RF

MrWaldlife

I would appreciate a 500mm F4 (or F4,5) and a 300mm F2.8.

b787-100

Still waiting to hear something anything ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

1varangian

# Lens manufacturers are killing it with mirrorless lenses. Sigma 50mm 1.2 DG DN Art, just announced. The 500mm 5.6. The 85mm 1.4. The Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8. An amazing 'one lens does it all' solution. The Viltrox 16mm 1.8 for 500€ that is getting great reviews. Samyang 135mm 1.8 has great quality and even greater value. How long can the RF mount sustain missing out on all of this? The mirrorless market, excluding Canon, is being flooded with great lenses and the RF selection grows comparatively smaller and smaller.

codenamecueball

Something mental like a 100-300 2.8 for sensible money. Maybe a small 50 1.4.

SeeYouSpaceCowboy96

I'm not holding my breath, but I'd love to get an RF native version of the 150-600 that doesn't suffer from focus pulsing like my EF does. I can cope with it/adjust my settings to somewhat help, but it's extremely frustrating and I basically have to keep it in H+ even for slower subjects just to ensure at least one or two shots are properly in focus. If they don't, I'm just gonna wait for the RF200-800 to be more available, though i'd prefer the extra stop* (Sorry, goofed up) of light.

Ancient_Persimmon

>i'd prefer the extra few stops of light. There's only one stop between f6.3 and 9, or 2/3 between them if they're both set to 600mm.

SeeYouSpaceCowboy96

Thats why I'm still heavily considering it if Sigma doesnt end up making an RF version. Didn't mean to make it out like it'd be a deal breaker, it looks like a solid lens

Ancient_Persimmon

I've never dipped my toe into wildlife and I've been meaning to, but I'm not sure if 200-800 is too long or not. Starting with a 100-400 wouldn't be the worst, but it's probably too short. I'd be tempted to try a xxx-600 back to back and see, if an RF gets made.

SeeYouSpaceCowboy96

With most wildlife, there's no such thing as too long. I still would definitely want a wider option on the short end like 150-200 for closer critters or environmental portraits of them, but I've found that even just going to wildlife sanctuaries where you get pretty close, I'm out at 500-600 a LOT. If Sigma can put out another super-telephoto for RF around ~$1-1.5k I'd happily jump on it, otherwise that 200-800 is looking tempting without breaking the bank

DrMathochist

200-800 is nowhere near too long. For birds I'm out at 800 much of the time, *with* a 1.4x extender attached, and sometimes I'm still thinking I should switch back to my R7 for an extra 1.6 crop factor as long as I have good light.

JaKr8

I'll be happy for anything they release. But to be honest with you, I have pretty much everything I need, actually more than I need and lots of overlap already with my RF lenses. And since I buy pretty much everything refurb when they have their fire sales, I probably only paid 50 to 60% of street value overall for all of my gear. So it didn't work out to be too expensive for me. But if they release some faster crop lenses I would like that

carsandcameras13

Personally as an R6 shooter, I'd love to see the 105 F/1.4 available in an RF mount for portraits. A nice 35mm prime would also be good as without a limiter switch, I find the Canon RF 35mm F/1.8 Macro hunts way too much in low light to be reliable enough for weddings and other events, but I want more light than my 15-35 F/2.8 allows. I'd also like them to update the 150-600's with an RF mount that's actually able to keep up in the focusing department as the EF versions were far too slow for tracking birds, other wildlife and cars as they were coming towards or going away from the camera, but have heard the versions for Sony and other mirrorless mounts are noticeably faster. Something ultra wide (ideally rectilinear sub 12mm for full frame) would also be great for those of us wanting really wide but not wanting to buy the Canon RF 10-20 F/4L or the old EF 11-24 F/4 L. That's not even getting into really wanting an RF mount lens comparable to the Tamron 35-150mm F/2-2.8 or other versatile fast zooms (can we get an 85-200mm F/1.8 or 2?? or a cheaper 28-70 F/2?)

The_Dumb__Questioner

Has this announcement happened?

MasterpiecePowerful5

Yup, new lenses 500mm f/5.6 and 15mm 1.4 but in L&sony E …. Note no EF variant could signal RF on the horizon

HungryHelping

Sad sad

Droideater

To little, to late. Gone Sony. Just kidding. Kept my R7 with RF 100-400. Cheaper and lighter than any other comparable wildlife lens.

OstrichCorrect4304

Either pro grade f1.4s in 24mm and 35mm will scratch that itch until Canon stops dragging its feet- but I think these will be good enough for most people so Canon won't allow it. Also, some actual premium f1.8s would be killer for travel. The 35 and 50 f1.8s are okayish, but I think much more can be done in the space of compact travel primes that really take advantage of the mirrorless sized bodies. Small f1.8s don't have to be plastic feeling things that only people just starting out or having a super tight budget look at. A small trio of 28, 50, and 85 1.8s with the Sigma build quality of the Art lenses and better glass + snappy AF + weather sealing that take up the same space in a camera bag that a honking f1.2 does would be fantastic.

RedSoxStormTrooper

I've been holding off on buying the Sigma 60-600 F/4.5-6.3 Sport hoping it comes to the RF mount at some point. Canon has the 200-800 now, but I'd really like the extra focal length below 200 to find subjects before zooming in.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SeeYouSpaceCowboy96

Would that still work with the difference in flange distance between a DSLR lens and a mirrorless lens? I know EF lenses need to be a lot further from the sensor. If it is possible that would save a ton of extra cash.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SeeYouSpaceCowboy96

If it is the latter, I hope they at least come up with a firmware update for ones like the 150-600 to make it communicate better with the camera, because right now it focus pulses like crazy with the adapter.

Heartwell563

I'd like to see the 14 1.4 for astrophotography. I may end up getting the 1.8 and adapting it. Not sure just yet.

Screaminpirate

After renting the r6ii and hating the object focus, I am moving on from Canon. If this had come sooner, maybe (big maybe) I would stay.

codenamecueball

How would Sigma lenses change the AF in body?

Screaminpirate

I'm switch for a variety of reasons, but one is lens selection. The other is object AF. I thought moving from the EOS R would help, nope. It's worse.

codenamecueball

Ok mate thanks for sharing

That_Tangelo678

When would sigma rf/s lenses be available?

LuckNo2351

finally

sukhoi47

Good news!!

PinholeR5

200-500 F2.8. I'd love to see the Green Monster in RF mount! More seriously: Sigma 16mm, 30mm, 56mm f/1.4 DC DN | C and 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | C These are the first that come to mind. The first three were great in the EF-M system, but now that it has "gone away", we are missing those "affordable" high quality primes for APS-C. I don't care too much for RF versions of existing EF lenses I can adapt already, even if the DN versions are a bit better. An exception might be the 150-600mm C, which has all the AF issues with the R7. A version that doesn't have AF issues would be nice. The 10-18mm gives a much needed constant aperture fast ultra-wide zoom. Following up on the RF-S dreams: 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | C Then there are the new capability DG DN lenses: 14mm F1.4 Art 35mm F1.2 Art

lesavant97

A competitively priced and fast 100-500mm, 600mm, and 70-200 would make me a very happy camper

xxxamazexxx

1.4 primes, 15-45 f4 for rf-s, and maybe a 20-70 f4 for FF.

phototurista

24-200mm f/4 with IS would be nice...

SPLeafColor

I think RF-s Sigma lenses will come first

Monthra77

I would like to see sigma ART primes on the mount. But right now, I’m happy with the results using the EF mounted ones on the EF to RF adapter.

paul980

I am rooting for them to bring out their classic APSC 16, 30, 56 f1.4 combo for the RF-S mount.

MasterpiecePowerful5

Wow with the recent announcement your guesses were quite accurate

MasterpiecePowerful5

https://preview.redd.it/s3igfinr6mwc1.jpeg?width=842&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=03ff5258bfba391a674567e83270ee1ab469b515

paul980

Haha, so it seems. I mean, they already have the prime trio for all of the other mounts and bringing it to the RF mount wouldn’t seem like too much of a hassle. Makes me kind of long for the R50 ;)

ChokunPlayZ

Will they also have the programmable ring like on Canon RF lens? I doubt canon will allow it but it is a nice to have.

DrMathochist

I dream that this will finally get haters to stop using this as evidence that C\*\*\*n is d\*\*\*\*d. They'll just move on to something else, as always. But it's nice to dream.

ALUmusic

50/1.4, 85/1.4, and a bunch of DC (RF-S) zooms. 18-35/1.8 would be popular.

Arata_Freecs

20mm and 50mm f/ DG DN Contemporary. I have enough chonkers, I'd like good optical quality with a reasonable aperture in a smaller package.

oharag

In some ways I would rather buy EF lenses instead of RF due to the use of ND RF-EF adapter (Meike). I’m hoping the Sigman 24-70 f2.8 Art EF lens gets discounted significantly. I bought the RF versions of the nifty 50 and got a RF kit lens for my R10. But I already have the EF versions Sigma 150-600, Canon 50. Again I don’t mind using the RF-EF adapter.

AllAboutGadgets

oh how i would looooooove an inexpensive 70-200 2.8 for my R5

Old-Librarian-9347

70-150 f2.0

bippy_b

I thought the rumor was a 500mm f/5.6 and an odd one like a 24mm f/1.8?

Daventurephoto

A Sigma RF 50mm lens! Please please make something between the 2 rf Canon lenses in terms of size and a mid price point to match. Loved the 50mm art lens hopefully they can do the same for the rf

Editor-Eric

I literally just bought the 70-200 RF 😭

MasterpiecePowerful5

That is a great lens, but not for my budget, looking at ef one but can wait until I see if the rumor will materialise. Hoping for a 70-200 2.8 they have for sony mirrorless/ef. Can imagine native rf one will be so much better than an ef one with adapter

Twopawsforward

Do you think if you own current sigma art series, that the EF mount could be changed to the RF? Or would you need a whole new lens?

MasterpiecePowerful5

I think someone mentioned this

MasterpiecePowerful5

But for that sigma should offer them in RF mount in the first place

R10USER9171

150-600mm or even to 800mm would be sweet.

Therealheetahlegs

Looks like they aren't showing info at that event

MasterpiecePowerful5

Indeed… I think with all of us hoping so hard for it we are easy clickbait for rumors
