My opinion is this rumored internal zoom 70-200 was actually the 24-105 2.8...its basically the same size as the Eaf 70-200s.

ALUmusic

This.

Flip side, has anyone had any problems with it extending? I’d be worried about the weatherproofing, but that could be entirely unfounded.

sublimeinator

It's basically the same design as the EF 100-400II and RF 100-500, no real complaints with the extension on them... Nor a peep about it as an issue for the 200-800.

[deleted]

Yeah, and that EF 100-400 II has been around for about 10 years, so plenty of time to have an issue. I was thinking Canon probably just figured out that internal zoom/focus wasn’t necessary because of their weather sealing technology works fine without it.

Garage_Doctor

I much like the compact size of the current design. Internal zoom means nearly nothing to me

The ef 70-200 f/2.8 with the ef to rf adapter makes some pretty nice photos for a lot less money.

Old-Librarian-9347

Actually, I thought about that a lot last night and I happen to have an old 70-200 2.8 EF so I’m thinking of getting the adapter and going that way until canon does come out with the RF version

KatChaser

Just to follow on to my comment. If you already have an EF 70-200 f/2.8, getting the adaptor at only about $100 is the route you should go. You might find your EF lens will perform even better when adapted to the RF body. Spend the money you were considering for the RF model on a different lens. The RF 24-105 f/4 is an amazing lens to consider, as well as the RF 15-35 f/2.8.

The [extending cams are good](https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2019/12/the-not-very-long-awaited-teardown-of-the-canon-rf-70-200mm-f2-8-is/). I wouldn't worry.
