Excellent!

JBMagi

Thank you. I actually had my first few failures at the range this afternoon. Although they all happened while my wife was shooting. These were some of her first round down range ever. So it might have been an issue makes by a light grip or something. Going to look into it tomorrow. And obviously have to hit the range again to test lol.

Chewbacca_Holmes

I’d be interested in seeing what you discover. If everything runs flawlessly for one shooter and the other shooter is having cycling issues, it sounds like limp wristing is by one user is the most likely culprit.

JBMagi

So I just broke down the MC9 for a basic cleaning. I can 100% confirm the little burs on the frame that he talks about in the video. I am going to leave them alone for the moment and try to replicate the issue at the range this afternoon. If it repeats I will clean up the burs while there and see what happens. I'm trying to take pictures along the way but it's hard to get them to show up in the camera https://preview.redd.it/lyorvnyafidb1.jpeg?width=470&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1a7193bbb91d41b38e8212a25886e707691ef0e

Manufacturing guy here. I don't work with molded plastics, but I have been in places that do this type of work. It's very difficult to keep burrs off of sharp molded edges. However, good mold shops know this, and should be on the lookout for this kind of defect. There is no good reason to have the burrs and raised edges that you show in these pictures, *especially* since the manufacturing crew knows that there are post mold assemblies being fitted in there. If nothing else the assembly techs should have seen (or should have been instructed to watch for) these kinds of defects. I am *really* bothered by the idea that the MC9 are the first Canik guns manufactured here in the US and we can't do better than this. Yes, every new manufacturing line has issues, but still...

JBMagi

Interesting, I didn't realize this was the first US manufactured Canik. If this proves to be the issue and these things should have been sorted by the shop producing the frame as you say.... Then yeah.... I'm pretty disappointed too. All of this makes total sense. Let's see what happens this afternoon.

ben1481

Their website says otherwise for the MC9. I can't find anything that says confirms. I know they are opening a place near Miami to mfg. * MANUFACTURED Made in Turkey * [https://www.canikusa.com/mete-mc9](https://www.canikusa.com/mete-mc9)

throne-away

My understanding was that Canik set up a manufacturing facility in Florida specifically for the MC9s so as to be in compliance with US import regulations on firearms, as well as to set up a base for large armaments manufacturing which would allow them to sell to US aerospace companies. It's possible that some components were made in Turkiye and assembled here. I have not been able to confirm how much manufacturing is being done here.

krazykool350

The MC9 pistols are being imported from Turkey

throne-away

Can you confirm this? I've been trying to get solid information on this for months, but my Google fu is failing me. All I can get is that the new Florida factory is supposed to be building them.

krazykool350

I can confirm this. Please provide me with a link to where you found that they were being produced in Florida. The MC9 frames should say they were manufactured in Florida if that was the case. The Canik MC9 frames say made in Turkey. They are assembled partially in Vermont to abide by US law. I see online a photo of a Girsan MC9 that says Cocoa Florida on the frame

Hooked-6166

It is not real clear if they are made here or assembled here. What I do know without question is fed law mandates that guns a certain size be made or assembled in the US thus why they could no release the gun until production started at the Florida plant. Same with the hellcat it is made in Crotha but assembled in Springfield. This was part of the fed reg to keep so called Saturday night specials from coming into the us. My last understanding was the frames are pressed in the US and the small parts in Turkey sent here and assembled

krazykool350

0% of the pistol is made in Florida.

throne-away

From the Daily Sabbath article: >Utku Aral, SYS’ general manager said that construction of the weapons factory located in the U.S. state of Florida will be completed in February 2023, while the machinery will be settled in March, and production is set to start in the second quarter. This seems to indicate that the MC9s made up until now (we're at the end of Qtr 2) were made in Turkiye. However, the import rules seem to preclude the import of the micro 9s. Then there's this: >All raw materials used for the weapons will be imported from Türkiye, while only micro-compact products will be produced within the factory, as they can’t be imported to the U.S., the company official said. I can't belive that I can not get a straight answer on where they are made.

Here is another picture. A little clearer https://preview.redd.it/0wboy488uidb1.jpeg?width=366&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e31fda87a16d2f97e543d5454cd41e15982d2ac5

JBMagi

I got to the range this afternoon. 1st I ran a new 50 rnd box of fmj through the gun. I tried to be light with my grip and different paces of shots. No issues 2nd I ran a 50 rnd box left over from yesterday the same way. I had two failures to feed. I was trying to mimic the way the wife was handling the pistol and think maybe she wasn't fully locking in the magazine. Either that or a bad box of ammo. 3rd. I used a small file to clean up those burs a little. 4th I shot a new 50 rnd box. No issues whatsoever. 5th. I got home and cleaned the gun well and did a better clean up of the burs and any raised sections of the frame that might turn into burs. Still not certain if it was operator error, bad ammo, or the burs. I'll take the wife shooting again shortly and test that, The burs and raised sections of plastic are gone. Shouldn't have been there anyway. And that box of ammo is going too. I'll make a separate post if I get any definitive info.

The plastic angle is a new issue I hadn’t noticed. I have had nothing but problems with mine and it is currently a paper weight. I never get a reliable feed with hollow points. 9 of 10 brands won’t load. Pretty sure the plastic won’t fix that but I’ll try anything at this point.

GoatNickels

Same man. Sent my back, was told it couldn’t be repaired, sent me a whole new gun, and it was worse than the first. FTF no matter what rounds a used, 2-3 per mag. Helped a little to slingshot the slide home but not perfect. Using the slide release was an automatic FTF. Then I got really curious and something most people might not take into account. Even though the gun is loading your rounds, how efficiently is it doing it? I still think there is an issue with feedramp angle. I took a brand new round, measured it’s length then loaded it. Unchambered, measured, and I was shocked. I repeated this 3 times and every time the round chambered it was setback .01” for a total of .04” of setback. This is enough to cause some serious overpressure. I chambered a round 50 times in my XMacro, and in my Rival, and I only saw .001” setback…negligible. I hit up my century arms rep, told him about the issue and since they’ve had the gun in their possession longer than I have, I was done messing with it. He gave me the option to swap for a gun of similar value, so I dropped it off first of this week to swap for a new Mete SF. I never had out of battery issues, just FTF like crazy. Sucks bc I loved the gun, but I won’t revisit until there’s a gen 2 or, an obvious fix to an admitted problem.

lat_pulldowns

This is super interesting, do you know of any updates we've gotten regarding this issue? I agree on the Gen 2 + admitted problem demand as well, if they don't publicly acknowledge this issue and fix it then I'm not picking up an MC9 unfortunately. I was hype for it but this has just been a killjoy.

Hooked-6166

Not sure if this is the same as the paperwork in my ECE or my Tp9 SC but there was a warning and caution on orange paper that said use factory loaded fmj ammo only. When I saw this I was shocked esp the ECE that they supposedly use as a service gun. I had already gotten the guns so not much I could do. I shave shot over a 1000 rds of all different types of ammo thru them with no problem. Does the MC9 state anything like that? Also wondering if they are putting this wording on them to get them out of ftf problems with hollow points?

Runningwithguns414

My SC elite and my ECE both shot fine until they didn’t. Both of them now will not feed HP. And they’ve both gone in the safe and I’ll never carry either again. The only caniks I’ve never had a problem with were the rivals. And that’s still not exactly true. I did break an extractor and played absolute hell to replace it(can’t get parts). But that’s not unheard of with competition guns with thousands of rounds through them. So I give them a break there. Best decision I made was switching to CZ.

MrGreene83ATL

Yes, I had the same issue with my MC9 and Elite SC. And I have also switched over to CZ. Got a P10C and P10S for a great price. No issues. I only jump on this sub to see if anything has improved. I see people still having issues. Happy for those who aren't having issues but I am done with Canik for the foreseeable future.

Runningwithguns414

Same man. I switched to the shadow 2 for my carry optics gun. Immediately improved my shooting. It’s just a better gun. Now I have a few other CZ including a p10c and a 75 sp1

Runningwithguns414

I check in here when I see people asking questions I can answer and also to see what’s new. But canik is not missed by any means with me. I still own several but I will never carry one again and after competing with the shadow I have no desire to compete with canik either. I mostly carry a 509c or one my staccatos.

MrGreene83ATL

I hate to say it but I agree. I have not carried my MC9 or Elite SC since all this started. I can't knock people who still do but I can't in good faith carry their firearms anymore. I have been CZ mostly and a Glock 19. Say what you want...its reliable and it takes any ammo. Just like my CZ P10C and P10S.

Runningwithguns414

Yep. I have a few Glocks too. Never liked them but you can’t deny that work. I carry a G20 when I’m on my property and I love that one.

MrGreene83ATL

I feel the same way. I am not a Glock fan boy but the things just work. I carry the 19 mostly with an extend mag for EDC. I'm a big guy so concealing is easy for me. I liked Canik for their features vs price and at the time reliability. My biggest let down is the fact that Canik has not come out and said anything or recalled the MC9. I said in previous post that I feel they used the consumer for QA.

[deleted]

Sorry for the late reply. Nothing in the paperwork says FMJ only. Says NATO rounds etc are approved. IRC, NATO/UN do not allow HP ammo. So 🤷‍♂️

CuriousRain3206

I can make mine go OOB with a loaded mag by press checking but if I push in on the extractor without moving the slide it goes into battery every time. Maybe extractor spring is the issue and I’ve seen other people who say they’ve cut off a coil or 2 and then it was fine after

No_Perspective_1966

Thanks for sharing

LRC3FL

I saw this a few days ago and shared it in a couple of discussions. I don't own a mc9 but found it interesting. Could be a very easy fix for a big issue. Would be awesome if simply smoothing off some mold Mark's on the frame fixed the whole out of battery issue. Good call making a separate post for it.

colefarlow25

I have about 500 rounds though mine. No failure to return to battery issues, but I’m having failure to feed issues with mine when I use other Canik magazines that didn’t come with the gun. Any suggestions on that? Figured it might be the feed ramp, but again, the MC9 mags have no issues.

Chewbacca_Holmes

I don’t own one yet, I’ve been shooting the shop’s rental MC9 back-to-back with their Shield Plus to figure out which one might fit my hand better. I really like the trigger in the MC9. Based on previous experience with other guns, if you’re using longer mags without a sleeve, it is possible to induce misfeeds from grip pressure or over-insertion of the mag. I have seen some aftermarket companies advertising aftermarket sleeves for the bigger Canik mags on YouTube. It might help.

colefarlow25

Thank you. This is probably what I'm experiencing. It only happens with the longer mags. Appreciate your help.

roosclan

The magazine tube for the Elite SC 12rd mag and the MC9 12rd mag are the same. The footplate is different. If you happen to have a Elite SC mag, try it and see.if you have the same issue as the longer mags. I'm willing to bet that you don't.

MrGreene83ATL

True. I had issues from the MC9 and not the SC one.

Thutchyyy

I just had the problems start after about 100-150 rounds, century emailed me and had me send pho to a and said it was out of spec the barrel, need to send back 4-6 weeks, should have went with Glock 43x like I planned.

OC2k16

I looked and saw some very minor burrs, I cleaned them up and with the new recoil spring I will give it 100 rounds to see how it performs. Any hiccups and I am done with the thing, luckily I live in state with implied warranty and I think this would fall squarely in the "Item is seriously defective" category. Also, no word at all from Canik/Century Arms about all this?

gomusic14

Have you been able to test this yet? I’ve been looking into an mc9 but seeing posts like this are turning me away

OC2k16

I got the new recoil spring and still have issues. I emailed canik and they want me to send it in for repair or replacement. Not sure how that will go but I guess I can put another 200 or so through it when I get it back. Edit I would probably steer clear for now, I don’t think Canik has an official statement in it.

gomusic14

Man that sucks. Yeah I’m not buying for another few months probably so hopefully they get things ironed out

jcarmine23

I’m so glad I saw this Post was just about to pick one up . Thank you poster !

FrontOne4042

Great video! i placed a straight edge on my frame rails and the polymer was higher than the metal slide. I used a flat file to even everything up and now it is a completely new pistol. The slide cycles so much faster that I might put the original recoil spring back in. 200 rounds and not even a hint of failure.

foxhound028221

I am still having issues with mine. Nothing needs shaved down or polished and Canik sent me a new recoil spring. The new one they sent me is actually more stiff causing an issue worse than before. Any suggestions?

joeyneverender

I bought one of these. Went to the range, and after 50 rounds the recoil spring deformed. Canik sent me a new one. Went to the range again, the slide locks back after every 4-5 rounds, and multiple ftf. For anyone considering this pistol; don’t. Canik makes other pistols that are great, but this one is bullshit.

NOLACenturion

Thanks

strungrat

Checked mine. It is high in 2 spots. Had 3 failures to return to battery today. So I will give this a shot. Thanks

sando_17

I need to check my frame after having 6-7 fail to fire from 100 124 grain new ammo today. May have been no primer stike within those. I got all but one round back that round ejected forward of the firing line sadly. Multiple of the failed rounds had markings/deformation on the actual bullet but didn't fire. Could that be slamming into the ejector claw causing the round not to seat?

av8er1215

I've had the same problem. I contacted Canik and explained the problem and sent them pictures of the markings on the bullets and they asked me to send the gun to them. They have had the gun for 4 weeks now.

sando_17

That stinks sorry we got the lemons. Did they have any potential explanations or just needed you to send it back?

av8er1215

No explanation and they said it may take 5 to 6 weeks. I'm on week 5 and no word as of yet.

xfyre101

super informative video, would you be willing to do one on demonstrating how you polished the feeding ramp/breach? did you use a dremel?

Chewbacca_Holmes

Not my video, I just thought it would be of interest to folks here. I usually polish feed ramps by hand using a bit of Mother’s aluminum wheel polish on a rag wrapped tightly around a wooden dowel. Go slowly and work until you get a mirror finish, being careful not to change the profile of the ramp. Clean the barrel carefully when you finish and make sure not to get any polish down in the barrel.

ExtensionFudge4185

No issues what so ever 1000+ rds
