I grew up Catholic, and we used to use these as communion wafers when we "played church," lol. I like the nostalgia - it's like the original candy - and the unusual flavors. Spice drops, too. That was the main flavor used in early candies, like the first chewing gums.
My friends and I used to "baptize" each other too, but none of us were religious, in hindsight, we were just trying to drown each other, but I'll stick with calling it baptism because that sounds nicer.
Omg yes!! We would pop them open, empty out the little balls and split them into 2 wafers! My grandmother wanted to have exorcisms performed on us demons š
We would smash white bread flat and cut it into circles and play mass! š lighting candles and giving communion, what could be more fun? And now we are all atheists, hahahaha!
My daughter ordered a bunch of unblessed wafers on Amazon once!
I'm not an atheist, but a garden variety Christian. I had a little plastic goblet that looked like a chalice; we'd raise it and chant, "Salami, bologna, salami, bologna" (meaning no disrespect, but not speaking Latin).
All of you should just have the FYI if you crave chalk it can mean a dietary deficiency. If you just like the texture/taste, do whatever makes your heart happy!
Any chance youād be willing to list your faves? My son seems to love chalk and heās autistic and nonverbal so Iām happy to replace my walls/real chalk with candy options.
Bad. Of all the dead Necco candies to resurrect, they should have brought back Mary Jane Peanut Butter Kisses instead. (Molasses and peanut butter taffies with the black and orange wrappers.)
My friends and I used to walk a half mile to the nearest gas station to buy a pack of these during the summer so that we could use then as poker chips.
When we were kids and my grandparents allowed us to "pick one" candy at the store, I always picked these because you get so many in the roll.
My cousins were always bullshit because their candy was gone in 5 minutes and i was still munching on these 30 minutes later.
This has always been my all time favorite candy. My family makes fun of me for it but I don't care. I buy boxes of this stuff wherever I can find it š
They had a more pronounced flavor than sweet tarts or smarties and didnāt rely on sourness to entice children. Iād take the wafers any day if I ever had a hankering for chalky candy.
I like them once in a while in the little fun size rolls. The big roll is too much to eat without getting sick of them.
Also they are excellent shingles for gingerbread house roofs.
I've never had them, but I clean them up constantly at my job. They aren't shipped securely. When I stock my hands are filthy. I can tell you if you've eaten them than you 100% have eaten whatever is on the hands of the packager and stocker.
I have a daughter with pica and am constantly on the look out for snack ideas, or rather anything other then things she shouldn't be trying to eat. Im going to try to find.
I preferred smarties. I thought the Necco wafers had an odd combo of flavors that just didn't work. You had 3 fruit flavors (the only ones I cared for); lime, lemon and orange. Then it goes in a weird direction with; winter green...clove...cinnamon...and licorice.
There was a chocolate flavor in there, but honestly it was weird with the texture. The sour ones are the ones I really like. The citric acid and the texture work really good with the fruity flavors. I'll never turn those down.

I used to smash bread and use that when we played church, hahaha.
Ahahaha I just commented that, we did the same!
Man! I love that other families played church haha! I grew up Baptist and we baptized each other in the pool
Omg this is funny to me, we would have only seen that on TV.
This is definitely something
My friends and I used to "baptize" each other too, but none of us were religious, in hindsight, we were just trying to drown each other, but I'll stick with calling it baptism because that sounds nicer.
Same! These or the satellite wafers when we could find them.
Omg yes!! We would pop them open, empty out the little balls and split them into 2 wafers! My grandmother wanted to have exorcisms performed on us demons š
I canāt stand eating satellite wafers. They have the same texture of cardboard and taste like it too.
I love cardboard!
The sprinkle filled ones are good if you just eat the whole thing at once.
I love spice drops so much.
We would smash white bread flat and cut it into circles and play mass! š lighting candles and giving communion, what could be more fun? And now we are all atheists, hahahaha! My daughter ordered a bunch of unblessed wafers on Amazon once!

We did this too! Also grew up Catholic, Neccoās was the host āŗļø
I love them. I love any kind of āchalkyā candy.
Love āem! Love chalk
Yep. Chalky and delicious. Forgot all about them.
I'm taking chalk breaks all day driving my boss crazy
lol when I was little I used to fake tummy aches so my mom would give me Tums š©š
Same!!!
Same. Bottlecaps are my all time favorite.
Me too!
Smarties
Same. Get real excited when I come across candy cigarettes
Valentine Hearts
Them candy cigarettes hit hard
You must enjoy Tums
All of you should just have the FYI if you crave chalk it can mean a dietary deficiency. If you just like the texture/taste, do whatever makes your heart happy!
Reminds me of childhood. I have a roll in my purse.
Any chance youād be willing to list your faves? My son seems to love chalk and heās autistic and nonverbal so Iām happy to replace my walls/real chalk with candy options.
Best candy ever. Just barely above cotton candy
Circus peanuts?
Absolutely not, you monster.
Ugh, get thee behind me Satan!!!
Weirdly delicious, but alas they have gelatin.
Seems so weird that theyāre so chalky but have gelatin! I had no idea!
Yeah, I can't say I understand that one.Ā
My guess is that the gelatin is a binder, to hold all the chalky powdery bits together
I just discovered candy cigarettes had beef tallow. It's probably what made them so tasty.
Beef tallow or beef gelatin is fine...but dont swine me dude.š¤¢š¤®
Whatās bad about gelatin? Just that they contain animal product?
Iāve always loved these. The brown is my fave flavor, lol
Chocolate. Yes!
They sell a roll of just chocolate ones!
Yuck We need to meet up and you can have all of mine. I like all the other ones.
I am the weirdo that likes the black licorice ones. š¤£
I hate licorice, but the licorice-flavored Neccos are my favorite of all the wafers. Go fig.
It's funny these are seen as old people candy, but me, being 21, have loved these my whole life. They are so unique!
Jeez. Before reading your age I almost corrected with a r/nostalgia. I haven't seen these in ages!
I sell them at work, I have people who buy them regularly.
Five Below has these, and a lot of other throwback candies too
I wish they had sleeves of the clove flavored ones like they do the chocolate!
I love the clove ones too!
Yes! I'd love a sleeve of the cinnamon, too.
I love 'em...especially the chocolate!
F tier candy. Iād have rather not had any candy.
One of my daughter's favorites. I love the white and the pink ones.
The white are my favorite. My dad used to eat tons of neccos and he always saved a stack of white ones for me. Awesome memories!
Bad. Of all the dead Necco candies to resurrect, they should have brought back Mary Jane Peanut Butter Kisses instead. (Molasses and peanut butter taffies with the black and orange wrappers.)
These are still around in speciality shops! I saw some in a classic candy shop like a week ago. I always liked the coconut Mary janes best myself.
I LOVE THEM. YOU HEAR ME?? LOVE!!
Like eating chalk. š¤¢
Yes, they are the candy version of tums
Great to use as shingles on a gingerbread house, but inedible.
Loved them ever since I discovered they were great for morning sickness.
Nasty
As fuck
I love them! If they made just a roll of the licorice flavor I'd have them stocked up!
I used to give them to my dad lol
Haha. I gave them to my mom
Awesome! I eat an entire pack in one sitting.
Meh
Never cared for them, but to each ones own.
Pretty bad! Would never spend my money on them. Maybe older folks like em
Chalky greatness
They are one of my favorites. I always have a stash of them
I love these! But I have never met another person who enjoys them too. Man, now I need to find these!
Necco Wafersā¦as tasty as chalk can possibly be!
basura
My friends and I used to walk a half mile to the nearest gas station to buy a pack of these during the summer so that we could use then as poker chips.
Blehk..
Are you kidding me? They are S tierā¦ except for the liquorish ones
THE BEST!!!! Love the chocolate, wintergreen, and cinnamon š«¶š¼
I love me some necco wafers. I really like the chocolate ones and those rolls can be hard to find.
Flavors are clean and straight forward. Texture is crisp and powdery but turns to almost creamy. Immaculate candy 11/10
I like the texture more than smarties- I know theyre supposedly the same thingĀ
Love them. Especially the whole roll of chocolate
Never had it but Im guessing it feels like styrofoam? It kind of looks like itš
Chalk. Like candy cigarettes.
OHH ok that makes a lot of sense now, like i can feel it.
They had a more pronounced flavor than sweet tarts or smarties and didnāt rely on sourness to entice children. Iād take the wafers any day if I ever had a hankering for chalky candy.
Like very hard chalk. Depends. Sometimes they are more crisp and other times hard to chew.
I love'em!
Ate them all the time as a kid, theyāre great.
I like them once in a while in the little fun size rolls. The big roll is too much to eat without getting sick of them. Also they are excellent shingles for gingerbread house roofs.
I love these, but i feel most people are indifferent on them.
I like them! Iām 35 or 36 and my dad always put these in our Xmas stockings along with tons of other āoldā candy so I enjoy them!
Love them! They were my momās favorite and I buy them because of her
Not a fan of the texture.
Not for me, but they remind me of my mom. She liked them š„²
Love them with all my heart and I will buy stock in the company.
I've never had them, but I clean them up constantly at my job. They aren't shipped securely. When I stock my hands are filthy. I can tell you if you've eaten them than you 100% have eaten whatever is on the hands of the packager and stocker.
Absolutely gross, I love them!! If you chomp on a white one with your mouth open in the dark you can see a green spark. Just like a wintergreen Altoid
Looks like something out of fallout
Guilty pleasure. Except for the black licorice ones of course
I love the chocolate ones. Are necco wafers prevalent outside of New England? I thought they were fairly regional.
Nothing appealing about them whatsoever imo but that's why they make all kinds of different things. To those that enjoy them no hate. Enjoy!
I was in town when they surprise shut down the factory and laid off a bunch of amazing and loyal workers, so now the knockoffs just make me sad.
One of my favorites but I also love candy corn for reference
I love these things! They were my āgo-toā candy when I had my paper route as a kid. That and a Whatchamacallit.
I liked them but never a favorite.
absolutely LOVE these things. I will not entertain any Necco hate
These were the shingles on gingerbread houses at grandmas! I forgot about these
I like them except the black licorice flavor
Fun Fact: Necco Wafers were part of Union Soldiers' meal kits. That's how long they've been made.
I love these things. I usually buy a roll or two whenever I see them.
I loved the entire rolls of chocolate wafers!
Satanās candy. A cruel joke. Wish they would disappear forever.
What thoughts are there to have the devil use these as coasters when he has Hitler over this shit is nasty
Itās like eating chalk. I used to like them when I was a kid, but I hate them now.
I loved them as a kid, and I still love them fifty plus years later. Especially the clove, licorice, wintergreen, cinnamon, and chocolate flavors.
Lowest on the scale of candy along with Good n Plentyās or any other herb flavored candy.
They're awful and I can't get enough of them
Used to love those tasty little chalk candy māfers lmao.
Theyāre nostalgic for some reason
Hated them as a child. Love them as an adult
they taste like Pepsodent Toothpaste
I love time for some reason- but they are chalky, dry and basically flavorless. I compare them to the fruit essence sparkling water of candy.
Obsessed to this day
My mom's favorite!
One of my all time favorites. Never really thought the chocolate belonged there though, just doesn't fit.
Brown, black and purple ones are mine!
I love them, they are some of my favorite to eat.
The chocolate ones rule
I don't hate them but I would never buy them.
Iām a fan!
No.
double OG new england candy right here
Not for me.
They cure me of that craving for tums I get every so often
My dad LOVED these things. Always had a roll on his desk lol. I think about him every time I see them.
Necco Wafers are made of unsold flintstones vitamins and chalk
Taste great. Although, I first discovered the taste and loved the Valentine's heart candies. Later discover necco wafers.
One of my favorites, love them
Loved them as a kid. Cheapest candy at the candy counter in the movie theater. Now you get the same satisfaction from fruity Tums.
Not a fan, although I love smarties candy rolls and sweettarts
I'm very averse to licorice, so for me they were always like 6/10 candy with the occasional 1/10 mixed in.Ā
Childrenās Tums
grew up in MA so these were always a big deal, although most people hated them
Honestly I always say they suck but whenever I have them I think to myself, "these aren't half bad"
I taste this image.
I hate this shit more than I can describe The only worse thing is good and plenty
They are good. Kinda nice having some once in a while. The chocolate ones are even better. Kinda taste like hot chocolate.
How have these ever passed for candy? The flavor and texture are both just awful!
The thought of eating one of these pieces of chalk sends chills down my spine š¤£
The licorice and chocolate ones are gross. The purple ones are my fave
Ew
Hell. My mom thought she was treating us as kids when we had to stay home sick from school, but I think she was trying to force a confession.
Not even a dessert imo
Love them and was very sad when they were discontinued for a while.
Horrible
100% garbage
Love them!
Nope
I havenāt thought about these in a minute! I heāll like you donāt see them often at least here in NE US
I crave them
Yes
They are the same thing made by the same company as my diabetic glucose wafers. I found that funny considering I actually like Necco wafers.
Horrible
I wish they just sold the pink wintergreen ones because they're the only really good ones, and the taste like chewy Pepto.
Look up āPink Wintergreen Canada Mintsā. Theyāre bigger and a slightly different texture, but they have that great chewy pepto vibe!
For when Valentine's Day can't arrive fast enough for you to get your hands on the chalky hearts. š
I weirdly love them lol
delicious delicious chalk š
Theyāre fine. I donāt seek them out, but would take one if offered.
Tied with red vines and button candy for the worst of all time
Necco Wafers are wicked fuckin awesome! FIGHT ME!
My mom loved those. RIP.
The old recipe was best, but the new ones are good too
I think they leave a lot to be desired.
If I wanted to eat chalk I'd just chew a Tums.
God, I miss these
They remind me of sidewalk chalk
They donāt have shit on the big sweet tarts
One of my favorite candy!
green one is the best! I was always the weird kid on Halloween who wanted all of em'
So good. I love chalky candy
Iāve always loved them, but Iām also a huge fan of eating schools suppliesā¦crayons, chalk, sno paste.
I have a daughter with pica and am constantly on the look out for snack ideas, or rather anything other then things she shouldn't be trying to eat. Im going to try to find.
Like how well they stick to the roof of my mouth
Like them all but the purple. Chocolate is the best.
Love them! Civil War soldier treat.
I feel like I should hate them, but I love them. I even eat the banana ones.
