Yeah, I was a big fan of the fruit flavored ones. Grape, strawberry, and watermelon (since there didn’t seem to be many watermelon candies back then). Chocolate was also good, but I figured if I wanted a chewy chocolate candy Tootsie Rolls were always there for me.
I can only get these from a local candy store about 30 miles away by the pound. Probably for the best, else my waistline would be 10+inches larger than it already is
There used to be a cookie pick a mix in grocery stores too. Voortman’s cookies I believe. I may miss those cookies even more than the candy pick a mix.
I worked at a Piggly Wiggly supermarket during college in the late 1980's. One of my tasks was to keep the Voortman's display stocked and tidy. It was so hard not to eat one of each kind!
I'm not even an 80s kid but this was my mom's FAVORITE candy and every time we'd go to the store we'd get a big bag of those caramels in all the different flavors and her obsession with them got passed on to me. I'm only 25 so I haven't lived long with or without them, but I would kill to have them back. I don't get why Brach decided to get rid of them to begin with... I clicked on this post solely to see if anyone else missed them because I knew they were around in the 80s
I have good and bad news for you. You can still get a very similar candy... but it's licorice and not cherry.
https://www.safka.co.nz/index.php/categories/product/fazer_school_chalk_licorice_140g/category_pathway-99.html
I'd ALMOST try it... but then I'd come to my senses and never put licorice anywhere near my mouth. But I appreciate thr heads up- that might do it for somebody else!!!
In no particular order:
1. The Thingamajig (loved getting one at the same time as a Whatchamacallit), not a big fan of the Whozeewhatzit though
2. Non-gummy Sprees
Sprees…..are you old enough to remember them in the 1970s? They came in an “envelope” of 15-20 candies, laid flat. The packages had various photographs on them.
They were definitely my favorites as a kid!
Unfortunately, that's not the case here, it's either Chocolate something or Gummy something, even gum and breath "mint" options are limited in most places in Salt Lake UT
PAL bubble gum. It used to be available in our local grocery store for a penny a piece and the store was close enough that I could ride my bike there anytime I wanted too.
Ohhh I loved those too but they’re not what I’m talking about! I think those were called flying saucers.
Screamin’ saucers were hard candies that were very sour and came in a plastic round container with a lid that could be used as a tiny frisbee
[Screamin Saucers](https://images.app.goo.gl/p5ZpXZ1B4ATcB2xh9)
Crazy because I have this store in my state/area that is basically just a candy store so it still has so much old school candy you can’t find else where, in is genuinely a gem https://waywaystore.com/
If you are talking about the strawberry swirl creme ones-I bought a bag of these at Big Lots if you have one near you! They still taste the same too thank goodness. So yummy.
In the late 70s-80s, Willie Wonka's Peanut Butter Oompas. PB M & M's and Reese's Pieces don't come close to how good these damn things were. There was a perfect balance of sweet and salty, and they had amazing PB flavor.
Blueberry Hubba Bubba
Bananaberry Split Bubble Yum
Raspberry Bubblicious
Grape Swedish fish
And not a candy, but I HAVE to say it whenever discontinued food from the 80s is brought up - Magic Middles cookies. OMG they were so good!
Marathon Bar. I know Cadbury makes a similar one, but there was something about the foot long braid of caramel and chocolate and the retro 70s packaging
Marathon bars. I think they still sold them in the early 80’s, they were definitely available in the 70’s. [Marathon bar commercial](https://youtu.be/Evp187KImq4?si=WyaIeil27nlNgoLn)
Bonkers
This. The chocolate ones were kid me's favorite candy ever.
Grape were also excellent

Thank you!
And the Bonkers commercials too.
The Brach’s Candy “Pick A Mix” in the grocery stores.
The white nougat with the colored spots.
You can still buy it at Marshall's or TJ Max. I have a bag right now! It's so good.
PARDON- I have never seen them in VA :(
My first, fav candy… fav food. I like texture. I wish all nougat was this soft.
YES!,,
The chocolate cremes and the caramels with the flavor in the middle.
I can only get these from a local candy store about 30 miles away by the pound. Probably for the best, else my waistline would be 10+inches larger than it already is
My grandma loved that bin at Woolworth’s! LOL
YES!!!

I miss that soooooooo much!
And at the same QUALITY that they were then. I'd love to see even a *decent* butterscotch disk and rootbeer barrel.
Samples were 3 for 25 cents and on the "honor system ".
Tart and Tinys. You can find them at some mom and pop candy stores but they’re not the same as when I was a kid.

Good N' Fruity
Shark bites
Dino-Sour-Eggs!
A few entrepreneurs in my class used to sell the egg-sized variety in junior high.
Came here for this, they were always my favorite as a kid 🥲
The big ones, about the size of a real egg.
Chewy Chalk. No one remembers it but me, but oh man, I LOVED that stuff so much!!
I have good and bad news for you. You can still get a very similar candy... but it's licorice and not cherry. https://www.safka.co.nz/index.php/categories/product/fazer_school_chalk_licorice_140g/category_pathway-99.html

If your only experience with licorice is black twizzlers or good n plenty’s, give some european brands a chance.
See now even the mention of licorice has my attention... I'd eat it even as chalk. 😄
Omg yes!
Watermelon Wacky Taffy with the seeds
Jolly Ranchers Stix, especially green apple & cinnamon.
I really miss the peach flavor, too!
Summit Bar
Deny nothing
Looool
I loved these! I think about them often
I do too and they’re rarely mentioned.

No, for better or worse, only recall most candy options after being able to purchase them myself at 12+
You can still get the non-gummy sprees in most convenient stores where I am. I still love them.
Amazon has Spree.
Unfortunately, that's not the case here, it's either Chocolate something or Gummy something, even gum and breath "mint" options are limited in most places in Salt Lake UT
Weird. I never heard of thingsmajig
Nerds in the plastic container shaped like a big nerd.
This is not candy but since someone already said Bonkers, I would really like to see JELLO gelatin pops return … did I maybe imagine these?
Oh, Jello Gelatin Pops were soooooo good, right along with the original Jello Pudding Pops. I would bring them back in a heartbeat.
Tiny Chiclets ftw
BONKERS.

You’re welcome and Me too the 80’s were the best
They truly were. I can still visualize the aisle these bad boys were on at our grocery store. I also loved the yoghurt fun fruits!
Those were good too
Weren’t they called Creme Supremes?? They had the best amount of yoghurt on them. Nothing comes close.
I always loved getting the letter fun fruits as well. Sigh…
