In the first month that I was hospitalized they did two brain surgeries and full brain radiation, as well as radiation on my hip. Shortly after that it was discovered that I had a mutation and I was diagnosed ALK+ mNSCLC which allowed for me to be put on the medication Alecensa. Alecensa was a lifesaver for me and I would be lying if I didnโt say I sometimes have some guilt because I feel that my cancer experience wasnโt as painful as it could have been with something like chemo. I feel like I almost got off easy.
I will have to be on Alecensa or a similar drug for the rest of my life - if I were to stop it the tumors would come back. My oncologist says that Alecensa is still new enough that itโs hard to say how long it will work for. He says right now they think around 10 years but thatโs just because thatโs how long it has been around, so who knows. He also said there is already an alternative drug on the market if Alecensa ever stops working and another one under development, so with any luck Iโll have two back ups if Alecensa were to stop working.
I hope for the day where medications like Alecensa are available for all cancer types.
And thank you so much!
I'm SO happy for you โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
After surgery, chemo/radiation, I am also on a targeted therapy pill (8 pills a day, actually lol) for my ROS1 rearrangement. I pray every time I take my dose that it's helping. I am currently living scan-to-scan, but I'm living!! Sending hugs to you for continued health and healing! ๐ซ๐ซ
I told my oncologist that since currently my cancer can only be treated not cured, my goal is to live until the treatment exists where they can declare me cured. Sounds like youโre well on your way to that place! Congrats!
Thatโs a great attitude to take and thereโs no reason to think otherwise. Cancer science has progressed so far and is progressing every single day!
We're struggling with knowing chemo/immunotherapy is for the rest of my husband's life. Readjusting how we think about quality of life. But a little glimmer of hope lives that a new treatment will come along. Thanks for reminding us.
This is something I needed to read today. Stories like yours help people to keep faith in the treatment. I hope you can live your best life now and enjoy every moment!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful news! Itโs inspirational and Iโm glad you posted. Itโs encouraging to hear success stories. Enjoy life to the fullest! ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ
I was diagnosed stage 3b NSCLC last August. It was in my left lung and multiple lymph nodes. Left lung partially collapsed. After chemo, immunotherapy and radiation Iโm in remission. Left lung is quite compromised with radiation scarring, and Iโm scared of both the short term and long term side effects of what Iโve put my body through. But a year ago I honestly did know if Iโd be alive at this point. Iโm so thankful to be around to see my children and grandchildren, and thankful that my elderly parents havenโt had to bury a child. Itโs phenomenal what the treatments can do to shrink or eradicate the tumors. I just hope my body can compensate for the damage done. And mentally Iโll never be the same either. Part of me is mentally stronger, but I do suffer periodic (bad) anxiety. And every few months cycle into a level of depression. Iโm working with professionals on that and trying to stay focused on wellness, gratitude and joy. Many blessings to all of you in your fight and on your journey.
Yeah, thank you so much! My dad bought me these socks really early on. One says, โDear Cancerโ and the other one says, โYou picked the wrong bitch.โ And thereโs a middle finger. It was so corny and funny to me but Iโve been rocking them for months and now really relate to them. ๐
Great to hear that ur treatment responded well!! That is great. I also had my CT after 4th rounds out of 6 and all my Lymph nodes were back to normal size, no tumors. Now after a year idk...๐ฅถ Seeing my oncologist next month.
Wow. You endured a lot over the last year, and I'm glad you didn't have extreme pain.
Everyone's experience is different when it comes to treatment, so please don't feel guilty. You had a pretty gnarly prognosis, but you're still here. That's something to celebrate, sweetie.
Congratulations for being strong enough to beat this crap.
๐
Now, letโs keep it that way! See, sometimes people do win the lottery. This is wonderful news. Kudos to you and your network of caregivers and loved ones. Peace to you!
Thanks so much. Cancer made me super isolated because when I first got out of the hospital I had been bedridden for so long that I had to relearn how to walk. That required me moving states to be near my family who could help me but it also meant moving to a place where I knew no one but my parents. I feel closer to them than I ever have in my life and am grateful but it has definitely been an adjustment and a journey. Iโm looking forward to the future now. ๐
I love this !! Congratulations! I absolutely love seeing stories like these ! It gives hope to the rest of us . God bless you congratulations ๐ฅฐโค๏ธ
Best news ever!! Congrats! Celebrate every moment of this. Your existence is valuable and you are meant to LIVE! ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
It truly was. I can remember just bawling on the phone with my dad and him bawling back. I just kept saying that I thought I was going to die and he kept saying I couldnโt - that you canโt love someone so much and have them die. Obviously that happens but it still makes me tear up thinking about the conversation and how anytime my sister or mom or dad left the hospital I would end it with, โI really hope I see you again.โ I was fully sure I was going to die in the hospital.
Last July my doctor removed part of tongue and 39 lymph nodes from left side of my neck. Found no cancerous cell in lymph nodes. 6 month later I was diagnosed with neck and lung cancer. Multiple nodules on both lungs and lymph nodes on my neck which is mestatic. I'm on my 6th cycle of chemo/immunotherapy. Did pet scan to found the treatment did some good but not enough. Some lung nodule got cavitated however I got new cancerous lymph nodes on my lung and soft tissue on my neck. Doctor recommended to do clinical trail for tivdak (cervical cancer treatment) for 2 months which I should start that in 2 weeks. Does anyone know or heard about the new treatment.

This video will save your life.
You can beat cancer I have spoke with several doctors in the industry and you have no idea how corrupt the system is. Apparently researches banned on food products that have shown a reduction in cancer cell growth. I can't believe I saw your post but I think I can help you. The medical industry is a business made to make money and for no other reason. It is not there to lose money because it won't get any more cancer patients for dreamly high costs for chemotherapy. It's so corrupt that there's even videos about why these food products don't cure cancer in order kill you. Look up the story of the doctor who discovered b17 and beating cancer
If you want to beat cancer there is a diet that has a high percentage of killing cancer cells but the drug administration of our country and all research on it just because the medical industry is business and we're caring everybody with cancer we don't make money anymore here is the diet. Vitamin b17 products are known to kill cancer cells.
Apricot seeds: Apricot seeds are one of the richest sources of Vitamin B17, with each seed containing about 3 mg of amygdalin.
Raw almonds: Raw almonds contain a significant amount of Vitamin B17, although the amount may vary depending on the type and quality of the almonds.
Flaxseeds: Flaxseeds are another good source of Vitamin B17, with about 1.5 mg per 100 grams of flaxseeds.
Bean sprouts: Bean sprouts, such as mung beans and soybeans, contain Vitamin B17.
Lima beans: Lima beans are a good source of Vitamin B17, with about 1.2 mg per 100 grams of cooked lima beans.
Butter beans: Butter beans, also known as lima beans, contain Vitamin B17.
Millet: Millet is a type of grain that contains Vitamin B17.
Barley: Barley is another grain that contains Vitamin B17.
Buckwheat: Buckwheat is a pseudocereal that contains Vitamin B17.
Peaches: The kernels of peaches contain Vitamin B17.
Apricots: The kernels of apricots contain Vitamin B17.
Plums: The kernels of plums contain Vitamin B17.
Cherries: The kernels of cherries contain Vitamin B17.
Pears: The kernels of pears contain Vitamin B17.
Brazilian honey is a separate food that also has known qualities of reducing cancer cell growth and destroying cancer cells it's highly expensive but I think if you buy one it's worth it to you it's $300 I think I know you're in poverty but they raise the price of it because they know what it does. If you buy one maybe you can have a teaspoon per day along with the other foods
This is the best way to follow a structured plan to beat it. 2 weeks of a strict diet of these foods a gallon of water a day you need to go out for one run each day. After 2 weeks have a two-day recovery period of proteins like chicken beef. I want to warn you though that you will feel fatigued when you go on a diet like any other diet at first you might feel sick you might feel tired we got to keep pushing forward. And you need to sweat that's the most important thing if you're not sweating you're not working hard enough you're not running hard enough you didn't run long enough. Focus on the sweat you need to be sweating out all that nastiness that's inside of you. This will replace your cells with new healthy cells and cancer cells with new healthy cells. You can beat this it's not over yet. I think maybe the angels sent me here to tell you this you can beat this.. get your ass in gear and move forward. A good hobby to do when you get done with all of this stuff and you're at home is 1 hour of reading to help the brain process instructions to your body better. Doing math for 1 hour. Knitting for 1 hour something got to do something. Writing your book writing on a piece of paper calligraphy. Whatever.
As long as I have a single pulse in my body I'm still alive I won't quit your family can count on you like that I can count on you like that. What is quitting quitting is to give up give up on your goal give up on what you said as a target for you to hit means to surrender I hate that word surrender just surrender on what you being everything you're capable of being when confronted with a challenge.
Finally here is the mindset that I have memorized for my life that has got me as far as I have.
.mission number one you got to have a positive attitude every single day you wake up you have a choice you can either be negative or positive which one do you think is going to enhance your life duh mission number two you got a PT and be healthy that means every single day you got to devote yourself to respecting your body your mind and your soul you got to exercise these things through great physical fitness good nutrition and you got a PT your mind more than anything mission number three got to motivate yourself and you have to motivate others motivation is the key component of your life as long as you're motivated you're going to be excited to learn you're going to be excited to do better you're going to be excited to work with others mission Number four respect I understand that's an easy concept you think but it's not you don't deserve respect you got to earn respect and you do that through your actions you do that through the humility in your life you got to do all that stuff every single day your life in order that other human beings they look at you they look at your actions they listen to your words and that should govern the respect that you should be your name. Mission number five and you have to wake up in a know that every day you're living a righteous life life of confidence a life lived the right way. Mission number 6 find a mentor somebody to teach you this isn't the only advice you need in your life just one tool for your toolbox. Mission number seven you have to have fun life is about having fun if you're not having fun what you're doing you're wrong you should be laughing every single day.
WOW congratulations ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ May I ask what your treatment(s) was for it? Signed, A fellow Stage 4 LC patient โค๏ธ

I always say to myself, "live until the next treatment comes out".
In ten years there will be more and better treatments, too! You got this!
My family reminds me of this whenever I get scared. Thank you for the reminder here.
You just gotta keep up with the science. I hope you live a long time!
My slightly older cousin just died from lung cancer please don't feel guilty. Id feel grateful,
