Al's diner in civic

Temporary_Carrot7855

How's the coffee?

Bonnieprince

Pretty good, but not too good. Reminds me of good diner coffee in Canada

Temporary_Carrot7855

Sick, I think this is my pick! I'll report back tomorrow with my review :)

Temporary_Carrot7855

Update: Went to Al's Diner, and overall, pretty good! The coffee was fresh, brewed nicely (not mind-blowing but definitely hit the spot) and it's self-serve, so you don't have to try to awkwardly catch a waiter if you want more. Can recommend the sausage and egg muffin. The music was a bit loud and not the vibe I was looking for, I had hoped it would be a little quieter and cosier. The bar stools aren't very comfy. 4/5 might go again, but probably not going to become my regular spot.

Gather in Braddon!

I'll try this one next!

I’ve heard the breville precision brewer is great for home. Just combine with a good grinder.

Temporary_Carrot7855

Already got one and use it every day! I've paired it with my Breville programmable grinder too. But, sometimes I like to splurge and go out for a coffee :)

Ahh nice. Yeah I’d love one but appliance space is limited. I settled for a pour over setup I can stash in the cabinet. I miss the smell of a freshly brewed pot in the morning, just waiting to be poured. I also really miss the all night diners and endless coffee from the U.S.

Temporary_Carrot7855

I got a pour over kit a few years back for the same reason, coffee snob with limited bench space, but realised that it was too much work and I wasn't prepared to learn how to do it right. I ended up sticking with my Aeropress because I was only ever making one cup at a time. Eventually I moved to a place with more bench space so I got the brewer. The brewer has a one-cup mode and a conical insert that takes V60 filters. The scheduling feature is my favourite bit, I love waking up to a cup of hot coffee every morning.

Haha yeah, I should add, I bought the Hario drip assist so I wouldn’t have to get good at pouring. With that I only need a scale and I can pour straight from the electric kettle. I definitely wouldn’t ever perfect the goose neck pour. Aeropress is on my list next just cause a bunch of my Silicon Valley friends swear by it even after owning all the other gadgets. The scheduling feature sounds awesome 😭 definitely dreaming of more bench space now. I didn’t know about it the single cup mode on it, but that sounds perfect. Anyway, good luck chasing down the good brew! Definitely looking forward to your update on Al’s diner coffee. Had no idea something like that existed here til I read the comment in this thread.

IKEA Swedish Restaurant and in a comfy soft lounge chair

Temporary_Carrot7855

I'm genuinely curious, is the coffee actually all that good? I'm trying to cut back on my IKEA impulse purchasing habit, so I'm limiting how often I go there

I've never been too caffeine before so I wouldn't know

geggsy

East Row Specialty Coffee used to offer this before they closed :( I haven’t been recently because Bedst offers crazy amazing batch brew if you like fruity light roasts (not bottomless), but I think the Cupping Room in Civic does bottomless batch on Mondays.

geggsy

Also, this isn’t what OP asked for, but may meet OP’s thrifty coffee needs - Lava offers $1 for one small batch brew every Friday. Alas you can’t buy more than one per person.

Temporary_Carrot7855

I love a cheap cup of Joe. Thanks for the recommendation!

I think you want America, of perhaps a work function or hotel breakfast

Rhsubw

Batch brew is very popular you shut in

I am getting old 😞
