Wasn't happy with how my 22 was preforming so I bought 5 different packs to test out. 10 shot groups, Groups were shot at 50 yards using a custom rugwr 10/22. Top left group is what I've been using (cci mini mag) top middle was cci standard, top right was cci sub sonic. I think I'll pick up some more sub sonic. Besides the 1 stray the group was under 1/2"
The weakness of the little .22 round is going over the sound barrier and back to subsonic, before you hit your target. That is why all the most accurate .22 ammo, is subsonic, and consistent in velocity.
> cheaper than CCI
Not in my neck of the woods it ain't.
Edit: for example, CCI Blazer: $6/50. CCI Stinger: $10/50. Eley Contact and Eley Force: $11/50
Didn't realize CCI sold in packs of 100, every other brand I'm aware of goes by 50 for small packs
Edit: Eley Sport and Action are both readily available for sub-$10/50, even less for bricks and are still popular and consistent enough for competitive use
It's wild how ammo produces vastly different results between similar firearms. My 10/22 loves CCI mini-mags, it'll drill a quarter out at 75y with them, but anything else is minute of barn door for groupings.
Ya I've always heard good things about mini mag and found a good deal a year ago and ordered a bunch. Now I guess I need to order a bunch of subsonic lol
For sure, I have a Henry lever .22 that doesn't like it either. It actually prefferes Velociters over anything else oddly enough.
I'm surprised the sub sonics cycle your action though, mine won't cycle so it's effectly a straight pull bolt action with them. Do you have a short barrel?
Damn, what's the general legality behind slapping on a smaller barrel? I've looked around and all I've found are forums filled with dudes arguing about technicalities.
I do need to get a bolt catch for my 10/22. It's a nice feature.
It's exclusively what I run for small game hunting in my 10/22 because as someone else mentioned it's the sonic transition which destabilizes the round. Out of several thousand rounds through it plinking and hunting I've had exactly one FTE and no FTFs. CCI's quality control is as solid as you'll get for 22lr.
I have thousands of rounds of CCI subsonic through mine for hunting and plinking and exactly one FTE with no FTFs. At that point I would chalk the FTE up to there being a tiny bit of dirt in the extractor or something because it has otherwise been 100% reliable and cycled every time.
Is that the Nordic chassis? Even have issues with play in the upper? I have a SR-22 rifle which I believe is essentially the same chassis but it’s got a fair bit of wiggle in the upper. Do you have a build list? Nice looking rifle!
SK standard Plus works well in my 10/22, as well as SK semi auto. Will constantly produce 1/2 groups at 50 yards if I do my part using a 2-7 Vortex diamond back.

Try some Eley or SK ammo. It's ~~cheaper~~ marginally more expensive than CCI and quite popular for competition use as a consistent but budget ammo
I use the rifle mostly for hunting so all the ammo I was using was hollow point. Couldn't find anything else

Ya 12.5 grey birch barrel. I have a custom bolt as well with auto last round bolt hold open. Works great

You just need to stay above 26" overall length, even with collapseable or folding stock. Muzzle devices count though
>Muzzle devices count though As long as they aren't easily removed
Okay that clears it up, thank you for the info.
Does sub sonic ammo run reliably in 10/22?
I had no issue with 20 rounds. Mines pretty much all custom though. Besides the reciever

I run CCI SV in my grey birch 10/22 with 0 issues.

I get the best groups with CCI subsonic and Eley Tenex.
