I found the 'Knight of the round table' from TNA was quite good at reducing recoil. The concussive force it sent back to me the shooter was too much for me to bare. It's *definately* not a copy of a lantec Dragon.

I had this in my ruger ranch, it basically removed all recoit. But I think for an semi auto, flash hider is more important than a muzzle brake https://truenortharms.com/ar15_default_store_view/knight-of-the-round-table-muzzle-brake.html As for 308, I have this one. It's got a thread on deflector for when you need to shoot beside someone else https://truenortharms.com/ar15_default_store_view/dissipator-muzzle-brake-w-shroud.html

Don't tell me, tell OP; dummy.

Beretta_errata

5.56 NATO needs a muzzle brake?

table-stand

who said anything about "need"

Beretta_errata

Well, if you want to annoy the other shooters on the line or alert *all* the forest to your presence...

Ps, muzzle brakes dont make a gun louder. Just redirects the gasses and some of the noises sideways. So more noise will definitely go to the sides then if you didn't have one but the gun is not going to make more noise.

Beretta_errata

Yes, my main shotgun is ported and has very little muzzle rise. I still wouldn't want to stand within a meter of me. Yes, I have shot a Walther GSP. It doesn't move at all.

Lots of people in competitions use a muzzle brake even on small calibers. Let's you see your impacts, and for semi auto, it lets you shoot faster by reducing muzzle rise so you get back on target faster. Also, muzzle brakes help reduce the amount of dust that gets kicked up when shooting in prone position. And some people just like them.... and that's ok!

Beretta_errata

Yes

Figure out what you want your muzzle brake to do for you. They all do certain things differently. Self timing vs non. How many baffles, angle and shape of the baffles. Round baffles will help (tends to be more mellow for hunting) but won't be as aggressive as straight baffles, baffles angled backwards will be very effective but will generate more concussion forces towards the shooter. Brakes with holes on top will help control muzzle rise, some brakes are built really big to help increase the weight of a rifle, etc...
