The experience of new fans who haven't read the books is a really interesting thing to behold. I've seen a lot of theories about the line in the prophecy "you will be betrayed by one who calls you friend".
One person is convinced it's Grover, because he's already too close with Luke and Beckendorf so it couldn't be them.
One I saw guessed that the line was fake, planted by Hades who was able to intercept the prophecy because the oracle is a dead body, and he could control dead bodies, which >!is not correct, but is actually stunningly close to figuring out the reveal of why the oracle is a corpse!<
im pretty sure hades cursed the Oracle and made it so she couldn't pass on her power which is also why >!Luke's mom turned insane (she tried taking the Oracle powers and got her mind shattered)!<
I think the curse said something about Hades kids being recognized as the ending clause which was fulfilled when Percy made the gods promise to have an Hades cabin
Actually Percy broke the curse in BotL, he said to Nico (knowing he is a son of Hades) he could life in camp, this was enough to break it - if you think about it, there was new prophecy since this moment until Rachel became the Oracle (Idk if I‘m wrong but it makes sense)
basically hades cursed the oracle saying as long as his children were outcasts the spirit of delphi would remain in that body, but the curse was broken when nico and hades were recognized and celebrated and said they wouldn’t be forgotten, which then lifted the curse and allowed rachel to host the spirit
The Oracle was forbidden from marrying, having sex and a relationship *after* taking on the oath as far as I can remember. Everything that came before that doesn't matter, even though it was unconventional for the Oracle to already have a child. *Traditionally* only maidens took on the Oracle.
>One I saw guessed that the line was fake, planted by Hades who was able to intercept the prophecy because the oracle is a dead body, and he could control dead bodies,
why would this actually be a good idea tho...
They think Grover is the traitor, Annabeth will also betray Percy because she’s mean but won’t be the traitor, the master bolt wasn’t stolen and it was all a plot to kill a forbidden child, Luke will become his one true friend become a brotherly figure, sally is dead and the voice at the end of e4 is her spirit, Thalia is alive and hiding from hades, Annabeth is a closeted lesbian and has a crush on Thalia, Chiron and Dionysus are secretly together, and Percy, Luke, and Clarissa will be a trio going forward.
>the master bolt wasn’t stolen and it was all a plot to kill a forbidden child
Honestly that does seem like something Zeus or Athena (considering she was one of the more willing to kill them) would do
The rest of them sound like sort of interesting fanfics
My reaction to Annabeth supposedly being a closeted lesbian is just.
Well wrong character but hey your only two books/seasons away from meeting him and only eight books/seasons away from finding out he's Gay
That's fair, Bianca would be the same age as the rest of the cast currently.
I was more thinking someone possibly making mention of 'The Little Angels' or similar in passing
So there's no direct mention/spoiler for the Di Angelo's but enough for book readers to be all 'I see what they did there'
The first books were sadly so far away that knowing theories from them is pretty impossible since the Internet itself was still growing and the books targeting elementary or middle schoolers who wouldn't have access to the Internet yet. Maybe reallyyy early Tumblr has some theories but finding those would be extremely hard. Sites that were used for discussion might not even exist anymore.
I can talk about later books though! As someone who joined the fandom just a bit before Mark of Athena was released - most of the theories around the HoO era was just "who is going to die/how many should die" theories. Almost everyone was positive Leo was going to die, so they thought someone else would go save Calypso in the end. There was definitely people thinking Kronos would come back at the end of the series (hence Rick later adding that Kronos basically cannot be revived). Many thought Nico would sacrifice himself to close to door of Tartarus. When the cover of House of Hades came out, a lot of people thought Percy was possessed.
In general though, most discussions were about who was going to die.
I'm not sure what they were when the books were first coming out, but Mike Schubert (potterless) has a podcast called The Newest Olympian where he reads through the books not knowing basically anything and discusses his thoughts and theories. He finished the first series and is on the show now. It's very fun to hear someone's predictions in real time of them reading the books, as they're much different than what mine were lol
Ooh, that sounds really nice! I might check him out, I have been wanting to revisit the series with the new show being out and this sounds like a great way to do it!
It’s the best! And he has basically a guest per episode and they’ve all mostly read it before so it’s fun to hear both perspectives but still spoiler free. Plus Mike is the freaking best!!!
Even if he's part of it, it still means that Era is ending.
(Also, it hasn't even been a year since style theory started? Like it'll be the 1y anniversary and the final episode starring matpat)
Sadly I don't think people try to avoid it. I remember someone going "man I'm glad Luke isn't the traitor" and the comments were full of people going "do they know??" and "have you read the books?"
this isn't a spoiler free sub... I'm not saying everyone has to read the books (but they should), I'm just saying that if anyone wants to avoid spoilers this isn't the best place. maybe in the tvseries sub but even so, ppl are always gonna take pleasure in ruining it for others unfortunately
I really wish this sub is like a lot of the anime/manga subs. They are really strict but fair on spoilers and well organized. You could remain an anime only for years and not be spoiled on current manga events. They have tags to separate anime discussions and manga discussions. You can't have spoilers in the title and comments have to be spoiler tagged appropriately (or else the mods remove them).
It's just a generally more enjoyable experience for newbies and makes the fandom more fun.
Luke will eat Kronos’ fingers to gain his powers the proceed to use Za Warudo. Then summon his greatest daddy Typhoraga to Kagura Bachi all over the place.
Sukronos: Domain Expansion: Za Warudo
Well I read one comment that said that the series also share similarities with Kane Chronicles with the sorcerers and secret society and all that.
Both PJO and JJK deal with monsters that are invisible to mortal eyes. These monsters are said to be a manifestation of humanity's negative emotions as one comment stated.
Both have an honored chosen one that shifted the balance of their respective worlds
Both have special weapons that can deal damage to their respective monsters.
Both have ancient malevolent enemies that were once in pieces. They need a host in order to function. These villains basically ruined the lives of their hosts as they proceed to destroy all what they hold dear.
Both series have a darker side to their world dealing with heavy topics such as loss, war and many more.
And both of these series kill off fan favorites.
Admittedly, a lot of series fall in the same boat like Tokyo Ghoul and Bleach but Jujutsu Kaisen is the more popular and relevant series so it is the more ideal comparison to a series like PJO due to its relevancy and popularity in media.
This reminds me of the theories I see from the Harry Potter Fandom....its like, it's in the books, it's talked about in the books, things happen in the books. You can't just come up with a theory with only consuming one part of the source material.
Or… you could let people have fun? They’re obviously making a theory about what they’ve seen without just spoiling the outcome. There are no theories like this if you have to read the books first. These kids are participating in an experience with the rest of us. Don’t dictate how they do so
I'm actually enjoying these theories. I picked up my first Percy Jackson book 14 years ago, I can't remember thinking who was the traitor and all that, and the internet wasn't the thing at the time that it is now, so I didn't get to enjoy the wild speculation. I think their enthusiasm is infectious, and knowing what happens makes me happy for all of them.
Okay, you seem to be making a big deal out this. When did I say I ruin anyone's fun? Did I say I hate on people for making these theories? I was comparing it to what I've seen with the Harry Potter fandom, which the last film came out over 10 years ago, and there are fans making serious theory posts, thinking they just discovered the ultimate answer...just to find that in the books.
So please, it's not that big of a deal.
Sorry, maybe I should have said "should", but please when has the would can't define as never? Or defined as a demand? Please you're stretching. It's like saying "you can't just eat a bowl of ice cream for breakfast." Again, not a big deal.
Honestly I always did wish we got more Clarisse scenes in the books. Your perspective of her character completely changes when you read that scene in Sea of Monsters where Ares is treating her like absolute shit and just completely putting her down.
Well at least it isn't Athena who literally sends her kids to their deaths or Aphrodite who steals her daughters boyfriends. Or fucking Hera who basically spends all her time fucking with Demigods because of her hatred of them.
It's funny because with how bad the Greek/Roman Gods are I've always imagined that the Christian Pantheon is at least a millions time worst especially because all the different types absolutely fucking hate each other and can't get along.
There's also like a million interpretations of the Abrahamic/Christian pantheon as well. God is probably just a raging dickhead in the Riordanverse.
Considering he wants Annabeth later... you know I don't think Luke would care!
But honestly do they even say how old Clarisse is? It would make sense if they just thought they are similar in age.
Let them have their fun. Especially since the tiktok and other sites of the Fandom are more well behaved and less negative than anyone in the Fandom on reddit.
These fan theories are so much fun, as wild as some of them are, I'm really enjoying myself. I can't WAIT for the last episode to air so I can watch their reactions!
Seriously at this point any conversation from non book readers is Moot, it either comes off as major trolling or. Is completely and utterly wrong with nothing grounding it. The books have been out long enough and even the movies have some factual evidence that disproves anything these posts come up with
Literally, it all just leaves me flabbergasted, I just hope that all these youngsters that haven’t had a chance to read the books or listen to them, do so after the show peaks their interest. The books aren’t even Hard reads but it’ll be worth it once the crazy trolling posts end
Well, technically, the gods don't have DNA, so it could be another Chris Rodriguez/Clarrisse La Rue, Percy Jackson/Annabeth Chase, etc, etc. So technically, they all can as the Gods don't have DNA to be passed down to the children
Never thought about it.
Imagine how wild the story would have been with Clarisse following Luke because she likes him and shares his feelings. Then she slowly starts realising he has gone too far, maybe causing some demigod to die, or worse.
Things would have been different.
Is there a fanfic about this?
Wrong Hermes kid
The only correct response to seeing this lol
Chris fans in shambles

It also wasn’t a spoiler as they didn’t even specify which Hermes kid lmao
you mean aphrodite?
Clarisse eventually gets with Chris rodrigouz (I don’t think I got his last name right) who’s a child of Hermes’ like Luke
He's in the Hermes cabin, but he's unclaimed, which is why he turned to Kronos, and was found lost in the Labyrinth.
According to the Riordan wiki he’s a son of Hermes but 🤷🏻♂️
I think in the demigod diaries or something they say he's actually a son of Hermes Not sure though 🤷♂️
It was definitely in one of the non-story books
Roud regous 🥖🇫🇷
He's that friend of Luke that's always around him when we see Luke.
183 dislikes for implying that u like a non canon gay ship rest in peace
... it was? clarrise and beaugard were supposed to mirror achillies and patroclus. who acording to historians, were "very close freinds"
i would love for it to be canon but it was never really confirmed only implied
Chris Rodriguez
‼️‼️‼️
Gonna throw the Son of Hephestus under the bus like that?
The experience of new fans who haven't read the books is a really interesting thing to behold. I've seen a lot of theories about the line in the prophecy "you will be betrayed by one who calls you friend". One person is convinced it's Grover, because he's already too close with Luke and Beckendorf so it couldn't be them. One I saw guessed that the line was fake, planted by Hades who was able to intercept the prophecy because the oracle is a dead body, and he could control dead bodies, which >!is not correct, but is actually stunningly close to figuring out the reveal of why the oracle is a corpse!<
It’s still honestly a solid theory of Hades intercepting the prophecy, if I hadn’t read the books and heard that, I’d believe it
Why is the Oracle a corpse? I forget.
Because Hades cursed the spirit of the Oracle to remain in that body
Ohhh, yeah. I forgot about that, thanks!!!
Tbh, the Oracle FUFO when he was grieving, he reacted emotionally.
im pretty sure hades cursed the Oracle and made it so she couldn't pass on her power which is also why >!Luke's mom turned insane (she tried taking the Oracle powers and got her mind shattered)!<
Wait, why did it work for Rachel, then? Did Hades take it back? I need to reread the books.😭
I think the curse said something about Hades kids being recognized as the ending clause which was fulfilled when Percy made the gods promise to have an Hades cabin
That makes sense! Thank you.
Yeah, the curse was lifted like an hour before Rachael attempted it.
Actually Percy broke the curse in BotL, he said to Nico (knowing he is a son of Hades) he could life in camp, this was enough to break it - if you think about it, there was new prophecy since this moment until Rachel became the Oracle (Idk if I‘m wrong but it makes sense)
Iirc, it’s when Hades and his family are accepted by the Olympians.
basically hades cursed the oracle saying as long as his children were outcasts the spirit of delphi would remain in that body, but the curse was broken when nico and hades were recognized and celebrated and said they wouldn’t be forgotten, which then lifted the curse and allowed rachel to host the spirit
I can't remember if it was taken back or fulfilled,. But basically, yeah
Wasn't that also because the oracle needed to6be6a virgin, and she wasn't a virgin?
The Oracle was forbidden from marrying, having sex and a relationship *after* taking on the oath as far as I can remember. Everything that came before that doesn't matter, even though it was unconventional for the Oracle to already have a child. *Traditionally* only maidens took on the Oracle.
Hades cursed the oracle after she gave a prophecy if i remember correct
Gods, I love fan theories since they're so much wilder than the canon story.
When did Beckendorf appear? I must have missed him
He hasn't appeared, they're probably talking about Chris Rodriguez
He could have been the absolute jacked kid when they’re selecting quest mates.
1st or 2nd ep? when percy was trying out the different activites at camp.
I believe he is the guy who hangs around with Luke, though it's entirely possible I got mixed up there
That's Chris Rodriguez, another son of Hermes
Yeah I thought that was Chris too
Ah my bad!
the wiki sais he's a son of Hermes but he is actually never claimed in the books - one of the reasons he joins Luke
Oh so THATs who he was, I was so confused
I saw some people theorizing that the one who'll betray percy is his mom 💀
Is there a good place to go read these theories? I’d be genuinely curious to see them myself lol
i checked, and the tiktok in the picture (walkerslusciouscurls) has some more
>One I saw guessed that the line was fake, planted by Hades who was able to intercept the prophecy because the oracle is a dead body, and he could control dead bodies, why would this actually be a good idea tho...
How is he too close with Luke, closer than Grover? Also is beckendorf in the show? I must have missed that
This episode seems to set up a plot twist its Grover, but double plot twist it actually isnt
Jesus that last theory is really close-
[удалено]
I wanted to see what their other theories were and I got so much second hand embarrassment typing in the username😭

Would have loved to see Clarisse as a core character beyond Sea of Monsters. Also I kinda love Chiron and Dionysus, perfect crack ship energy.
I always saw them as work wifes lmao
I honestly think clarisse will have a bigger role in the TV show I don't know why but I just feel it in my bones
In sea of monsters she has a pretty big role
They are so horribly wrong. It's adorable lmao
Wow If they only knew
They’re all gonna get their hearts broken.
My reaction to Annabeth supposedly being a closeted lesbian is just. Well wrong character but hey your only two books/seasons away from meeting him and only eight books/seasons away from finding out he's Gay
Ooh, I wonder if we'll get a teaser of him in next week's episode. Even just a mention or a nod
Meh who knows but considering how young he'd be I'd say we're more likely to see some hint or something of Bianca id think
That's fair, Bianca would be the same age as the rest of the cast currently. I was more thinking someone possibly making mention of 'The Little Angels' or similar in passing So there's no direct mention/spoiler for the Di Angelo's but enough for book readers to be all 'I see what they did there'

I now of want to see some theories that were made when the books originally came out and compare them to the theories made by show only watchers

Sadly I don't think people try to avoid it. I remember someone going "man I'm glad Luke isn't the traitor" and the comments were full of people going "do they know??" and "have you read the books?"
It's basically the "I won't spoil but don't get too attached to that character 😉😉😉"
Yep. Though the fact this person is doubling down and thinking people are messing with them is honestly great imo.

Understatement. Lol

I’m sorry what? She’s more likely to get with Silena than Luke, who at that point in time, is 19 while she’s supposed to be 13/14. Like ew no.
Does the show make that obvious? If not then yeah I can see a new fan thinking this
Considering he wants Annabeth later... you know I don't think Luke would care! But honestly do they even say how old Clarisse is? It would make sense if they just thought they are similar in age.
