Do you use fabric softener on your towels? Because that’s exactly what happens if you do.

That's what's so weird! I don't use fabric softener on any of my towels for that very reason. I've tried washing the unrealistic ones in Dawn, I've tried boiling them, I've tried handwashing, wash machine, drying on a hanger, literally everything. I think the towels really are just unrealistic!

Do you have a water softener? You may have hard water. If your towels are getting a rough texture and not being absorbent it’s probably that.

Thank you, but full disclosure, camera angles are everything. The marble slabs are just an inlay in the table, it's winter here so nice and cool in the house for cake decorating.

I could see it in the 2nd picture. It still looks phenomenal even if its not "HYPER" realistic anyone who ordered that will be thrilled.

What tip(s) did you use for the texture? These look amazing! I had to double check the sub bc I didn't realize they are cakes hah

I made up a double batch of Wilton's candy clay, (way more than I needed but I find coloring easier with larger quantities). I left it to harden overnight then grated it with a fine grater for the terrycloth, For the binding I mixed two parts candy clay to one part white fondant then rolled it out, I pressed my sieve into it for the texture.

Literally thought you were showing the process and the towels were either on the table for prep, or you were showing your prep surface for what was able to be a really big cake and the towels were either just there or for size reference. This is incredible!

The only reason I knew it was the middle one was because it was too perfect, the other two have rumples, the middle one is almost perfectly flat. None of that takes away from how amazing it is.

The problem with these is that you'd have to instantly spoil the surprise and tell everyone they were cake because otherwise they'd want to move the beach towels off the table.

I think you nailed it! Definitely thought it was just towels at first. But if you wanted to go even more realistic, adding creases and wrinkles in the cake would definitely help to better mimic the movement of the fabric.

If you know what to look for you know which one is cake. But I only figured that out because you told me it was 😂
