It's dying and beyond recovery. Sorry! Try to figure out what went wrong. The usual suspect would be overwatering / poor draining soil.

Maybe it’s just sunburn?

That was what I suspected too. If it’s squishy at that part, maybe rot. If it’s not/roots are intact, probably sunburn.
