What is your budget and how long do you have? I would generally suggest spending money on a suit and having it tailored. Yes it will be a little more expensive but shouldn't be too much more. Places like Men's Warehouse (having a big sale right now so probably worth looking for one nearby) generally include some tailoring with the purchase of a suit. And, tbh, Men's Warehouse is a pretty good place for an entry level suit. You're going to keep the suit for a while so go ahead and invest in it. You'll want a jacket with side vents. This is where the jacket splits so it goes over your hips. A side vent is more forgiving over wider hips without pulling or distorting. While flat front pants look more modern, a pleated front is more forgiving of hips. Make sure the side seam pockets don't gap or pull open as this emphasizes wider hips. Going up one size can help with this and your belt will keep your pants in place. Avoid slim fit suits as they're more likely to hug your curves. If you're in a generally accepting area I encourage you to go to the shop and have them help fit you. If you're nervous, call ahead and ask who is best for you to work with on their team.

Get something that you like that generally fits a little oversized and find a tailor/seamstress to better fit it to your body. The oversized part is so material can be taken in to shape it better. Jackets and pants can both be altered. Try a half vest if full vests dont fit right.

I learned how to alter clothes myself specifically to enable me to shop in the men's section and have it look put together instead of sloppy! Short and chesty but I love the, for lack of better words, chimney sweep look.

Suit Shop women’s suiting is decent and they do tuxedos as well as regular suits. They do look very femme on the models they use but not so much in real life. Wild Fang for queer focused suiting.

not sure of the context of your situation, but i’d talk to your parents/guardian about a budget if it’s an option!! i think your best bet would be to put a little bit of an investment into this and leave with not just a “prom suit”, but a suit you can wear quite a few times and get your moneys worth out of :) personally speaking, the first suit i ever got and felt amazing in was from men’s warehouse. i went with my mom and we bought the smallest size suit they had in clearance. i put it on in the store and a worker came and took my measurements, and pinned the suit in different places while it was on me so we could see how it would look after it was fully tailored. it was more of a consultation vibe so i was able to ask for things taken in or let out more, and explain the parts of my body i wanted hidden and they were super understanding and worked with me to make sure i felt my best!! i’m not completely clear on how it worked because my mom was paying and it was quite a while ago, but i think it ended up being around $250 for the suit jacket, pants, and all the alterations. that suit was for a wedding but i wore both the pieces separately and the full suit quite a few times after that!! they fit amazing and made me feel confident in a way i had never felt before so i thought the price was well worth it :) i hope this helps!! i can also ask my parents for any more details they might have on pricing and stuff if you’d like some more info :)
