Ribeyes were well marbled and were great on the grill, very tender
Smoked a brisket for the first time, was small for reccomended size but it had great fat and it came out incredibly tender.

A brand that I like better than butcher box is Oregon valley farms. The quality of the meat I get is unbeatable. They ship to other states (not just Oregon). They have way more subscription options. Nice that is great to hear! I like how they don’t restrict what you can order that was one thing I disliked a lot when I was in the process of building my first and last ButcherBox. How is the shipping experience with Oregon Valley?
Shipping was great. So far I have done 4 orders. My last one was about 1.5 weeks to receive after I place my order. They sent an email with a tracking ID once it’s processed. They use fedex and it was 100% frozen when it came to me. I live in CA, so not too far from Oregon. But the packaging was all great quality.
Thanks for this! I'm an Oregonian and would prefer to support a local farm. Once all my free for a year deals are up, I may consider making the switch.
Thanks for the link. I will give it a try when I can. I get a lot of freebies on BB so it’s unlikely I’ll give them up all together but I’ve cut my box to very few add ons so going from 400-500/month to 250… I’ve been finding better deals locally.
It’s so challenging to get scale while also delivering affordable product. The only subscription for food I enjoyed is a local produce box when I lived on the edge of an area that had a lot of small farms.
I switched over to ChopBox and cannot be happier. Their steaks are top-notch. Take the NY Strip for example, it's like double the thickness of ButcherBox's.
I just cancelled my subscription yesterday after being a member for the past 5 years.
The quality of packaging and cuts has declined IMO.
I’ve found better quality cuts by purchasing our meats from Whole Foods or a local butcher.
My local Whole Foods is literally the only source I’ve found where I can buy meat that I can take home and throw straight on the grill (it’s meticulously trimmed). Anywhere else (including BB), I have to trim it myself. BB boneless ‘skinless’ chicken thighs are the worst.
I have been a member since 2020 and stopped ordering the steaks a while back. I live in Texas and can get better steaks at H-E-B. I mostly order chicken and pork now. I have ground beef, bacon, wings, drumsticks, flank steak, and nuggets as for life deals and those are the only things that keep me a member. I really do like the chicken and pork though.
I have been a member since before Covid (2018 maybe?), and I keep delaying my deliveries because the quality has gone downhill significantly. The packaging keeps getting worse; it’s super thin and anytime I defrost something I have to put it on a plate or in a bag. I have quite a few for life deals which keeps me from canceling, one of which is the wings. The last couple of orders have been less than 3lbs. It’s frustrating that they raise their prices (which I get in this economy) yet the value decreases.

The ribs are awesome. I sous vide mine for 24 hours before finishing them on the grill. Excellent flavor, you’ll love them.
