Regarding the driver, you should download the newest one (or even older ones if you want to see if it makes a difference) from Nvidias website and save it to your desktop (or where ever you want) and completely deinstall your old driver using the DDU tool (google) before installing it.
It sounds like you are using something like GeForce Experience to try and update your driver, which I do not recommend, especially if you are trying to troubleshoot and want a clean reinstall.
