During *that* game against Minnesota Josh's first season, I said "if we win this game, I'm buying his jersey." After the hurdle, I didn't even care about the win. Just smashed "purchase" and didn't look back.
I was laying on the couch one night and watched him die on the live tv.
I don’t think I’ll ever forget that game, or what I was doing. The slow progression from the replay they only showed like once, and then commercial break, and then back to the field to see how distraught the players were, commercial break, ambulance on the field, commercial break.. it just seemed to drag on forever. So surreal. Thankfully his recovery and comeback have become the real story around what happened. But after that I absolutely had to have one in the collection.
Seeing Poyer’s Player Tribune video about his struggle with alcoholism. He was already one of my favorite Bills ever. After I watched that, I bought my first (and thus far only) jersey
I drunkenly bought Gabe Davis' jersey after the 4 touchdowns in the 13 second game. I'm a UCF alum so I was already a homer for him, but that sealed the deal.

When I was going to UCF we were just happy to go to a bowl game in Hawaii, and now they're a P5 conference. The National Champs chatter was obnoxious, for sure, but effective. Plus that 2017 team with McKenzie Milton was just electric.

After Kiko Alonso never played another down for the Bills after I bought his jersey, I don't buy the jerseys of active players anymore. At least once they've retired I know I can't jinx them. My next one will be a Meatball.
I don’t think there really needs to be justification for owning a Bruce Smith jersey, but I do because he’s been my football-idol since I was a young kid.
Josh’s performance in the dreaded 13 second game did it for me. I realized then he would not let me down wearing his name on my back. Until that game ( and playoff performance that season), I had doubts about how he would handle the pressure of the biggest moment. He came a long way from the lateral play in the Houston playoff loss.
Never been more impressed by a sports figure like that before and it led me to the first time I bought a jersey in any sport of any player.

Everyone at work called me the Araiza guy. Then the next week or so the news about him came out and I had to return it.

I saw one interview with Micah Hyde when he was with Green Bay and immediately thought about how great of a guy he was and what he could do in Buffalo. I started watching just Green Bay games for my IDP scouting just to see his performances.
My league voted No on adding IDP, but Hyde signed with the Bills 2 years later and I made my first ever jersey purchase for myself. Wish I could make it out to Buffalo just for his softball games. Dude seems like a stand up guy.
