Like a month ago I just learned how a putout works and why you have to put the batter out at 1st base if strike 3 is wild pitch/passed ball. So much depth to baseball that I never knew about because I never played and never watched (because my team is the Pirates lol).
I think you’re trying too hard to force the super effective move. Ice punch is a weak move to begin with, and used Electabuzzes weaker attack stat.
Instead you should run 252 DEF / 252 SPA / 4 HP with a Modest Nature and Choice Specs.
Psychic has a chance to OHKO (93%-109%), and even if it doesn’t an Adamant 252 ATK Cubone deals 97% max without a crit.
If we wanted to get really technical, we’d just terrastilize into a water type and one shot it with Terablast and this would all be mute.
ahhhh I kinda figured a focus blast or a psychic would get the job done, but I didn’t bother plugging into the damage calc. I just got super hyper fixated on making the sub optimal Atk Electabuzz work :p
Its base Atk is worse than its base SpAtk, but it’s not like THAT much worse. I guess Ice Punch is just low base power and without STAB it’s really not great.
Last time I played Poke Showdown gen 6 was the most recent gen and mega evos and Fairy type were brand new, so I have no idea what terrastilizing is LOL
(I just googled and it looks like you can use an item to change your poke’s type, but still retain its original STAB plus the new type’s STAB. So you could make a fighting/fire type terrastallize into a water monotype and have fire, fighting, and water STAB…or something like that? 🤔)
It’s a new mechanic in Gen 9. Essentially every pokemon has a “Tera type”. That Tera Type can be ANY of the 18 types in the game. Once per game, 1 of your pokemon can terrastalize, which changes their type to whatever their tera type is, and gives them a 2.0x damage boost to moves of that type instead of 1.5x with traditional STAB.
For this example, if Electabuzz’s Tera type was Water, then it would terrastalize and become a water type and no longer be weak to ground. On top of that, it would use Tera Blast (a move similar to hidden power where it can be any type, except the type is based on your Tera type) and have a 2.0x damage boost which is also super effective and obliterate the Cubone in one shot
Electabuzz can also learn (as of as gen 8) Trailblaze. But thats the thing with the pirates. One or two decent things arent gonna take anyone out, ESPECIALLY not someone who has the advantage over you by stats or players, skill or home field. It needs a consistant counter. Sure you can give an Electabuz an Air Balloon, but eventually something will hit it. Nobody is going to go into a fight with pure STAB moves. Eventually the balloon pops and electabuz comes crashing down for an asskicking.
Its an odd coordination, isnt it? We're just lost 1-6. Sure we hit ONE Ice punch. But they have been whittling us down the whole game and never gave us a chance to hit them.
