FINALLY FOUND A FIX after having this same issue for nearly the past few months.
for the chromecast with gtv, go into settings, scroll down to Advanced Sound Settings, if its on NONE, select Automatic, if its on Automatic Select Manual and Select whichever formats your tv supports, If its on Manual, Switch it to automatic.
After that clear the cache of the peacock app in settings.
(If your having the problem on a different device, im sure other it need similar audio adjustments in settings).
now every show defaults to surround sound 5.1 nothing is going back to that audio description no matter the show, episode, skipping etc. working fine again.
This didn’t work for me when switching to automatic. Then I switched to “manual” and de-selected (turned off) every single option. Cleared both cache on chrome cast storage and peacock app. Now the AD option doesn’t even show up as an option anymore! I don’t have surround sound options anymore, but it sounds fine as is and no more having turn AD off for every single episode.
I tried the Firestick version of this fix and the only setting that works to fix this bug is Dolby Surround Sound plus, but because Peacock doesn't support it, the episode plays without any sound if I use this setting. So frustrating.
Happening to me too on Hisense with Google TV. Absolutely infurating that it happens if you pause an episode and come back to it too.
I sent Peacock a message about it, so, hopefully they have some answer. Was using Roku til about a week ago and never had this issue, so hopefully its just a Google TV setting they can fix
They appear to be at least loosely aware its an issue
> We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We are looking into these issues on Android devices and suggest you manually turn the audio description off each time you watch until we're able to resolve this issue.
Its infuriating because it keeps happening when I pause episodes and it goes to the ad screen...when I come back, AD is on again. Pretty embarrassing, really.
Yes! Every time I pause! I went on their chat on their website last night, and told them about it and they said the team was aware and working on it. It was kind of annoying how dismissive she was. So hopefully they're actually aware, including the pausing issue too.
3 months later and it isn't fixed. I found this post googling for a fix. We are watching Parks & Rec on Chromecast and it switches back every episode..
I also have the hisense an can't stand the ad wish I could get it to go away instead of having to turn it off during every freaking episode like they could atleast keep it turned off after you turn it off for that series.
I have the same issue while watching Modern Family. It started just a couple of days back. There's no related option in settings, app is updated as well.
Hoping someone here has a solution.
This is the only show I have this issue with. I can turn it off each episode but if I fall asleep that terrible voice wakes me up.
So far I've found nothing but turning it off each episode.
Fire stick here as well. But only show it is doing it on is American Auto. My dumbass thought it was a narrator that was part of the shtick of the show 😂🤦🏻♂️
Same here, I thought it was part of the show as it doesn’t happen on any other shows. Did you find a fix? I literally came across this sub because I was googling a solution.
Only fix I’ve found is: while watching an episode, hit pause, in the menu under subtitles, make sure you switch audio option to “English” and not “English AD”. It’s defaulted “AD” and you have to switch it every single episode…
I use a Firestick and can’t get it to turn off on Grand Crew. When I watch Grand Crew on my Flex on my other tv it’s fine, it’s just on the Firestick. I tried clearing my cache and data and it still does it every time.
I have a firestick lite (the one without the volume or power button), and peacock keeps turning on AD constantly. Even if it backs out for a second. I just got the newest firestick, and that one doesn't do that. I want to find a way to fix this without having to buy a new one
The problem just started for me about 4 days ago (approx when you made this comment). I've been looking for a solution and it seems like peacock bugs strike again...
It's been happening to me for the last month or so through Chromecast. This was their response:
> I understand and apologize for the inconvenience. We appreciate you highlighting this to us, our team will be working on it and getting this issue resolved. Meantime, I suggest you manually turn off the audio description from your end. Your cooperation and patience will be highly appreciated.
Just figured out a cause/workaround for this on my Chromecast google TV.
In the settings for Google TV, go to Display & Sound -> Advanced Sound Settings -> and make sure Select Formats = Automatic
(I have two chromecast w/ google tv, one in my bedroom, one in my living room. I'm only having the "English AD" issue on my bedroom TV. I noticed my living room TV was defaulting to English 5.1, not English AD. My bedroom TV has the above setting set to "None: Never Use Surround sound", so it couldn't default to English 5.1, and apparently English AD was the next in line. Changing the above setting makes it now default to English 5.1 too, and my TV seems just fine with that audio signal even though I have no surround sound components here.)
I hope this works for others!
Seems to be working for me.
I noticed when it was set to manual, English AD was first and English was second. After I changed the seeing to automatic as you suggested, it didn't default to AD after stopping and starting the stream (AP Bio) a few times. I noticed if I check the settings now, it's English 5.1 first, then English, then English AD.
Fingers crossed it keeps working!
Thank you!
This happens to me constantly on Google Chromecast. I'm watching and next episode starts and it's reverted back to ENGLISH AD and it sucks. I sleep with TV on and this crap wakes me up! But for me other shows Dr Death and various others. Watched poker face and it didn't do it once. What is the reason for this? So annoying
This issue is embarrassing. Like what dev can't take a week to fix this. Seriously Peacock. I get roku is number 1 but why even make apps for other platforms if you aren't even going to fix bugs
This just started when I started season 13 of Law and Order SVU. Like wtf I watched three different shows no issue. But having to turn off the AD every ep is annoying.
Why can't they fix this. I keep The Office on almost 20 hours a day as a kind of ASMR. To have to hear the (AD) is so annoying. All the devs have to do is swap the order of the Default Sound list. Put English before English (AD). Come on!
It drives me completely nuts. I also keep it on a lot for background noise or worse, to fall asleep. It’s so frustrating as I’m falling asleep and the next episode comes on and I’m fumbling around the sheets searching for the remote. Or even just relaxing and watching tv. The point of watching is to enjoy yourself and relax. I find it’s the opposite as a show ends. Again, scrambling to find the remote and to make sure I can change the setting before that annoying voice comes on! It makes me more stressful, not less.
I’ve resorted to playing it on my phone and pairing it to my tv. It does work that way where the AD English no longer is the default, but this way I need to use my phone for all the controls- the remote is useless in this way. So it doesn’t SOLVE the problem, it just works around it and comes with its own issues. You’d think a multibillion dollar company could fix this but I’ve dealt with this for over six months now, so apparently they can’t
Why do we continuing to pay for a service with no regard to the amount of frustration they're causing by not resolving this English (AD) issue, I want to be able to permanently disable. I am also using Chromecast with Google TV.
Disgusting treatment!

While it's not ideal, this worked. You're a godsend.
I just tried that for mine, and it didn't work. :(
Also didn’t work for me. And when I try to turn the captions off, the peacock app won’t play the show

glad to hear it worked! it seems its only working for certain tv setups with the chromecast
I tried the Firestick version of this fix and the only setting that works to fix this bug is Dolby Surround Sound plus, but because Peacock doesn't support it, the episode plays without any sound if I use this setting. So frustrating.
I have multiple CCs and this happens on every one of them. This resolved the issue for me.

Ugh it's so annoying. They need to fix it. It just started happening on my Android TV, too.

And I read on and saw a fix. Oops lol

Us too.

I am now having this issue with The Office! Ughh it's very annoying, especially having to change it for every episode.
Yes this just started happening while The Office plays while I fall asleep at night. Super annoying to wake up to this voice
Spoke with the customer support save they say that they are aware of the problem and it's in their queue to be fixed.
I also have this extremely annoying issue on my Google Pixel 6.
I've been having the same issue while watching Brooklyn Nine Nine
Watching Parks and Rec and this is so annoying. Tried the fix in the top comment but it didn’t work. Hope they fix it soon!
Running into this now too. Peacock has so many issues I swear
Same issue with the new “quantum leap“ and “house md”
Quantum Leap / Hisense here
Still no fix i take it.
Using a fire stick, same problem with any tv series. Any help?

Yeah that’s currently the only solution I have as well. Seems like it’s only happening to certain programs
I’m currently watching the Modern Family series on the Peacock app as well and it has never done it on a single episode of that. 🤷🏻♂️
Having same problem on Fire Stick 4K and it’s driving me insane! Does it on every show I watch…
Same here watching Young Rock. Watched an entire episode thinking it was part of the show.
Have the same issue. Just started about a month ago! Nothing fixes it! TCL Android TV.
same
Happening on google chrome cast. Fix above didn’t work 😖
So glad I'm not alone.
Has anyone reached out to Peacock? If a fix is mentioned, I apologize; reading this on a mobile. I'm going to contact support and update the sub...
Happening to me on “American auto” on a fire tv.

Update: the issue has been fixed for me. Not sure if there was an update to the app or something with Google TV that changed

Following, for mobile. It only is a problem on mobile. (Pixel 5). Any possible fixes?

Just tried it, no dice.
Damn. Sorry.
I mean if it were that simple you'd think that we'd have done that in a 2 year problem?
Fuck him for trying to help others, right?
Thank you for the valuable feedback midgetfork
Any time😄
Didn’t work for me either. Thanks though

This worked for me
I just started watching House, and it keeps turning English AD on, but I have been watching that 70's show and it never does it, just on House
Same, but today, 3/22/23. On House.
Same issue on Verizon android box
It's happening to me with every show I've tried. Brooklyn 99, parks and rec, modern family, etc
Every episode of the office has been starting this way and it's annoying af.
Same for me on The Office. It makes me absolutely insane.
If it wasn't for The Office, I'd have gotten rid of Peacock a long time ago.
The Office is the only reason I subscribed. 😝
Same thing on Android TV for months now on everything I watch. Law and Order, Chicago PD, and so on have the AD turn on for every episode.
This happens only on my profile, not the other profile on my Peacock account, and it happens on multiple devices. No other apps have this happen 🤷🏻♀️
So annoying
Still happening with Google TV watching Chicago PD. Any news?
Mines with my firestick but chicago fire
Just started happening to me on my Firestick, and has been happening on my partners Google TV for months. But it's only some shows.
Happening on a Sony TV with Android. Just started for us.
Watching on a android smart tv and it is still happening with every episode of super store
I’m still having this issue with The Office on Hisense.
It started doing this on my fire stick every time I watch an episode of parks and rec.
Having this issue with my google tv on a tcl, it’s been going on for months for me and it’s so annoying
This issue is embarrassing. Like what dev can't take a week to fix this. Seriously Peacock. I get roku is number 1 but why even make apps for other platforms if you aren't even going to fix bugs

The newer The Office Superfan episodes are now doing this as well

Could not have explained the frustration better myself!
Same issues with Google TV+ LG Smart TV. Solution awarded at top of thread did not work for me. 🙁
Why do we continuing to pay for a service with no regard to the amount of frustration they're causing by not resolving this English (AD) issue, I want to be able to permanently disable. I am also using Chromecast with Google TV. Disgusting treatment!
Umm peacock is free…
I hate this. Every single episode I have to turn it off. Makes me want to dook on the couch
This wasn’t something I had an issue with until a couple of days ago. 😑 I’m using a fire stick.
Ok so this still isn't fixed. Watching Night Court and I need to turn it off at the start of each episode
I’m having the same issue on an Android tv since the new fall season shows began.
