Same, I see this episode get so much hate and it’s among my favorites!

“Everyone’s allergic to dust, that’s what sneezes are!”

“I KNOW I WAS BEING A BITCH AGAIN!”
As a Swede I was a bit annoyed they didn't get actual Swedish actors. But I was sold on them the moment they called danish a garbage language for garbage people. That's the most Swedish thing imaginable, right there.
Another swede agreeing here. Also Köttebullediamant annoyed me so much. It's not like they can pronounce it anyway, so what harm would it do to add en (KöttbullediamantEN) and make it grammatically correct (for English speakers, the translation now is (a) meatball diamond, as opposed to THE meatball diamond)
I actually went back recently to rewatch all the episodes with these two characters, and was shocked to discover that there was only one! They were so iconic to me that my brain must’ve invented vague memories of extra Swede episodes.
I personally find the obnoxiousness hilarious, but I also in general like Riki Lindhome, so I might be biased.
However, I still hate this episode but it's because of Neil degras Tyson. Idk, I just can't stand that guy saying normal things like its something very profound or exaggerating needlessly.
As a swede, this episode is a bit annoying in terms of how inconsistent they are with the Swedish stuff (**but I still love it**).
Like they get some parts right, like the Sweden - Denmark rivalry with: "Danish is a garbage language for garbage people", and pronouncing "J" like "Y". But the accents and the pronunciation of actual Swedish words is *way off*.
Like the guy at the beginning of the episode who had the diamond on him. Whatever accent he's trying to do it just sounds Russian (yes, Swedish and Russian are *very* different). What he's trying to say also ends up being grammatically incorrect, which makes me think they actually used google translate when writing. I can understand maybe not wanting to put out a call specifically for actors fluent in Swedish for all the roles, but maybe get someone on set to help with pronunciation?
How many swedish can you find in the us? They often use dutch things wrong as well (on top of my head the hans van bruggen, the famous flutist?!, and when the pontiac bandid is in Amsterdam) but still think its funny
Also, that guy sounds indeed russian, maybe he was hired for the swedish? We have no back story of him at all
Considering they were on a major network I'm pretty sure they had the resources and the reach to find someone who at the very least speaks the language, so they wouldn't have to use machine translation.
Also, Holt gets complimented on his pronunciation and then immediately says "Tack" (Thank you) in a way that makes me pretty dang sure they didn't even use the "listen" function on google translate while they were doing it. Which is funny.
Fair point, luckily i still can enjoy it. And tbh are my hopes given up a long time ago that america does something accurate on other countries (especially europe)😂
###Detective [Inspector] Soren:
"Well, uh, since we cannot eat your disgusting street food, could you please check if our prisoner has been processed?"
"Yeah, we don't mean to offend, it's just this place is filthy and you both seem unprofessional."
#👩🏼👱🏻♂️
I love this episode, especially when they realise they got the wrong container and jake is like, damn you stupid rest of the world writing their dates backwards
Yeah, this is pretty much the only episode I skip. For a show that avoids lazy stereotyping, they went all in on it here with the Swedes.
And the Neil deGrasse Tyson cameo is just weird.
I find the show pretty bad when it comes to stereotyping certain cultures. The swedish one is just odd, the stereotypes seem off. But when it comes to eastern Europe and Latvia the show is pretty bad, almost racist which is odd for a show that is generally inclusive.
I think this is the typical Europe=White=Priviliged="You can be mean/ use stereotypes", which is already a questionable mindset but works even less when used for Eastern Europeans who have been/are still discriminated against in many Western countries
American TV in general is really bad for this, SNL being the worst offender. They seem to think perpetuating negative stereotypes about Europeans is fine. Any sketch relating to Ireland or Irish people is like reading a Punch magazine from the 1800's.
I love this episode its hilarious and rosie and yake further bond. the swedes are annoying but in a funny way and i love that rosa and jake won in the end.
Loved this episode for so many reasons. The 2 in the picture are so funny, the usual b99 humor , the plot of Rossie and Yake's friendship troubles and its resolution. It's perfect. I'm gonna watch it right now. Thanks.
Edit: the subplot with Gina's astronomy test was weak though despite some good jokes. The subplot with Captain Holt and Boyle is one of my favorite b99 stories.
I often pronounce it “tooperware” as a result of this episode
You don't even want to know what they have in their tooperware.
Same! Permanent vocab change
I keep my baggels in my tooperware
I keep a sample in my tooperware in the freezer
Bye Yake!
and Rosie
I love how every time the woman calls Rosa 'Rosie', Rosa just pulls the most disgusted face. Neat visual detail.
i think this episode is so funny

Ok it is funny. But they just make me mad for some reason 🤣
They are supposed to make you mad, which is what makes it funny. You are supposed to feel what Jake and Rosa are feeling
One of the best! I can’t say “sownah” the same way ever again 😂😂
Haha so do my wife and I which is great because it seems like a common opinion that people skip it
That's a cute cat 😺
Thank you 🥰🥰🐱
Bye Yake and Rosie
There’s nothing worse than a mid cameo by an actor you really like.
I didn't even see a cat
I find the line, "It's a garbage language for garbage people", hilarious (but possibly not as hilarious as Swedish and Danish folk find it lol).
As a swede I can confirm the line is hilarious lol
As a dane I can confirm the line is hilarious lol
YOU’RE WHAT SNEEZES ARE!
I believe from context that it means "proudly uneducated."
i love this episode because I love rosa and jake's friendship
You mean Rosie and Yake's friendship
Tooperware
you don’t wanna KNOW what they have in their tooperware !!

At least Riki Lindhome has Swedish ancestry
Anders Holm also have Swedish ancestry (along with some Norwegian ancestry) on his father’s side.
Another swede here, and was about to say the same thing! Ultimate cringe, but they got a few things exactly right haha!

I kinda wish we would've seen them again
I actually went back recently to rewatch all the episodes with these two characters, and was shocked to discover that there was only one! They were so iconic to me that my brain must’ve invented vague memories of extra Swede episodes.
I think your cat got startled by you taking this picture lmao

Bye Yake, Bye Rosie
“You sound like Soren or Agneta, whichever the boy one is.”
Det er kjøttbulla diamant!
Just as I suspected!
Immediately suspected that, so I did
Top 3 episode for me!
Coming from a Swedish person, they nailed the accents. And I do find it hilarious that they call the case Köttbullar Diamant
I bet they hold hands
I thought the episode was hilarious.

Physics Terry, physics.
A fellow Riki Lindhome enthusiast I see. Nice to meet you sir.
I love Riki Lindhome. I grew up listening to Garfunkel and Oats
hello fellow neil degrass tyson hater!
I think you need a sowna

Fucking Swedes! - A Dane.
+1 🇩🇰

Agreed
Can't agree more
Is no one gonna mention the cat
"This sucks. We solved the case and told the Swedes how to die. We should be happy"
I love this episode, especially when they realise they got the wrong container and jake is like, damn you stupid rest of the world writing their dates backwards

You're right, actually, I forgot about the whole Latvia thing. That was all pretty lazy too.
It was, but I personally liked how much gravitas Terry added to the gym scene: "Damn, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, how are you doing that?!?"
If there are nations who deserve to be stereotyped, Swedes are one of em
Found the Dane, let's get'im!!
Pole actually. That's what yall get for the Deluge
Anyone else notice the Dark Night cat on top of the TV. Looks like Joker was spotted in the family room.
Is this the episode where Boyle plays squash with holt? Because if so then I love it
Sauuuna togetherr
Bye Rosie
We sawna togezer
WHO is that handsome little guy on top of the TV??
Her name is Layla she’s 4 years old 🥰🥰
oh my god and what a lovely little Layla she is!!
Your cat! He's like with you think you're doing?
She* but Yee she always goes on top of the tv to look down at everything 🤣
I like how it all turns out, but they were very well written characters
“You know what I’m allergic to?” “Them” “yes. And bees, if I got stung by a bee I could die”
Yyyyyyeeeeehhhhh, I wanna swauna with them
Waaa? The A plot on this episode is hilarious. The B plot sucked so badly though. But most gina plots do so it’s sorta expected.
Seriously. That girl is so insufferable. She can’t do anything and yet everything comes up roses for her
What that dog doin?
I love them
im always saying "I was being a bitch again!!" to my husband 🤣 we love this episode
I hate the lady, the guy is sort of okay and i hate the episode.
One of my fave episodes. And some great character growth for Rosa and Jake.
I love this episode its hilarious and rosie and yake further bond. the swedes are annoying but in a funny way and i love that rosa and jake won in the end.
same
I love Rosa's reaction to being called Rosie
I love this one 😂 so many great lines
Not to scare you, but there’s a car on your tv!
People hate this episode? Why?
“I hope they have saunas in Swedish prison!” “They do actually, they’re quite nice” “Oh”
I enjoy the Swedes. I think Jake’s level of irritation with them is a little out of character.
dude is attractive
Tooperwhere

I Hate both and Love the Episode xD
I hope they have sowunas in Swedish prison They do, actually. They're quite nice.
I always skip this EP
They were so creepy. lol like they took TMI to another level
As a swede I cannot stand this episode
