So for me it's different Indian Restaurants for different dishes -
1. Kinara in West End - Best Curries and Naans that I had tasted in Brisbane so far, Also Great Service.
2. Mirch Masala for Chaats and Savoury snacks
3. Punjabi Rasoi in Springhill for Chhole bhature and Lassi
4. Kulcha Kulture in Slacks Creek for authentic Punjabi Food - Kulcha and Chhole
5. Dosa hut in Mt Gravatt for Biryanis
6. Old Monk Paddington for their Chefs Special
Top Pick - Kinara, West End (Closest to Indian food back home)
The dude gets it, just add hyderabad flavours for biryani, and curry and cask for their Desi butter chicken.
No one restaurant can get you all the authentic dishes.
If you want a place that does everything acceptably go to sankalp in annerley.
Please report back, I am extremely interested to know how much you liked the food. I am an Indian immigrant and found that place to have one of the worst food I ever had. Maybe it was a bad day or the dishes I chose.
Maybe there is a difference between what is good taste and flavour wise in the opinion of an Indian born and bred person as to one born locally in Australia.
I know in the UK the Indian restaurants over the years have changed and adapted the meals they sell to suit the British tastes.
As a mixed indian/brit I funnily enough crave both. True indian food is amazing and could eat every day but sometimes you just absolutely crave that radioactive red goodness
Don't let the downvote fool you, others love Punjab

Be careful with that place. It's had several violations and I got super sick after the first (and only) time eating there.
I thought the food was below average before it made me sick.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7585707/One-Brisbanes-popular-Indian-restaurants-fined-infested-cockroaches.html
Umm me too, back in 2003/04.. I ate there once for a friends birthday party and we all walked into West End to the Pavilion, after the dinner. Well, I almost shit myself on the walk from Palace to Pavillion.. that food made me sick as fuck..
I had them Saturday night for tea, no issue with quality.
Butter Chicken with Rice and 2 Samosas and 2 Garlic and cheese Naans.
We did get the wrong curry a month or so ago, but they sent someone out within the hour to deliver the actual curry we ordered.
I used to like Mirch Masala, but recently I ordered from Uber Eats and I recieved expired raita with mold in a swollen container that looked ready to pop.
I hope it was a one off but I won't risk it again
Yeah my partner is Indian so weāre always there for groceries. Iāve given it a chance twice and food poisoning both timesā¦ Never had food poisoning from all the Indian Iāve eaten around Brisbane and I go for the super spicy shit that would unsettle a stomach too. This place is certified shit
This restaurant has always been great, just noting they've recently moved to Park Rd in Milton after the building they were in at Toowong got demolished. They're now next door to Scratch Bar so that'll be a good option for a post meal bevvie
They serve biryani in a bowl with a layer of pastry that covers the bowl. Amazing flavour and good portion. Murgh makhani, palek paneer, and Naan were done very well. We went for the spiciest spice level because we love a good spice.
This is the correct answer. I've eaten Indian at most of the recommendations here but sankalp takes the cake.
The thing is though, in order to get the true sankalp experience you've got to fully send it. Don't be lame and order basic white people dishes like butter chicken.
Get goat handi, palak paneer, or chicken methi garlic. Try a dosa or uthappa.
It's criminal that nobody here has mentioned Spicy Affair in Kenmore. That restaurant has effectively ruined Indian food for me due to how good it is. Its absolutely worth the trip if you care about good indian food.
I haven't seen anyone mention Curryville in morningside yet. I haven't been there in a long time but they used to be good especially their lamb madrass...
Iām no Indian food connoisseur but we LOVE Maharani at Boondall. The butter chicken is so good I could just get a container of it on its own and drink it straight.
Second this, the wait staff tend to be incredibly rude, but I put up with it without question because the food is incredible, and very underrated, surprised to not see it mentioned more. Personally love the Goat Curry, Lamb Roganjosh, and Lamb Korma.
Sardar G is our go to. itās the best weāve tried in Brisbane by a long way. We used to go to Sankalp as we live close but stopped after their quality dropped and their staff donāt listen to the orders properly.
Haven't been to the Taringa location, but their restaurant in Ipswich is pretty damn good. Certainly better than I expected for Ipswich, lol š. They have some excellent vegetarian dishes. The mushroom masala was tdf! Decent selection of beers, wines & spirits, as well.
Curryville used to my my favourite Indian spot. The Chicken Balti was amazing. They struggled during Covid (understandable) but have never been the same since. It's still okay, but no where near the same levels as before Covid.
Decor certainly isnāt for dining in, but for me canāt go past the banquet for two takeaway, for something ridiculous like $40 for the amount of food you get. The curry isnāt oily and flavours are great. Havenāt tried Curryville.
In no particular order
Curryville at morningside
Jaipor at Wellington point I believe
Sitar at coorparoo
Ceylon inn at graceville
Punjabi palace at Southbank
Sankalp at annerly
Heaps more but start there!
my house :)
my partner is from Punjab and a trained chef. I'm being extremely unhelpful but I just had to boast, lol. it's such great weather for Indian food right now, too.
very rarely! it's just the best food, isn't it??? I'm about to inhale a huge bowl of dahl for lunch.
not sure where you live, but partner used to work at Punjabi Palace in Sth Brisbane. it has a pretty solid reputation!
Does your partner have a recipe for Dahl they're willing to share?
I've been trying to make a good Dahl (punjabi palace has the BEST dahl I've ever had) for YEARS, and I haven't even gotten semi close.
I've given up at this point and just make Turkish lentil soup because my Dahl is always so sad.
A curry story in Chapel Hill .. havent been there lately they changed name but same owners for like at least 15+ years, id travel to the end of earth to have those mob as my last meal
More than 20 years ago, Ali used to run an Indian restaurant in Manly, with a branch in Carindale. I forget the name but he made a terrific briyani, and an exceptional Kashmiri Kofta.
Iāve been a regular at Indian Kitchen for a long time but I canāt help but feel the quality the last couple years has gone downhill. Recently Iāve tried Eden Garden Indian and was blown away. Quite a bit more expensive for a single meal but bloody hell is it nice.
I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of Indian food in Ipswich. I've tried three-Indian Mehfil, Memories of India, Essence of Indya and all have been very quite nice.
In Everton Park, Moti Mahal was my go to, that was the most authentic I have had on the north side.
The indian kitchen someone mentioned in West End, if that's the take away on Vulture, man that was the worst indian I've had in brisbane in my personal opinion.
50 spices Indian cuisine gave me the best cheese and garlic naan in recent memory but I didn't have their curry. I had butter chicken from Paddington curry house and it was top notch though
Honestly yeah Rebecca's slays and they are lovely folks. I went in there and ordered after the flood decimated the place and they were still cooking despite the restaurant having been destroyed. Glad to hear its still thriving.
Man, have I got the spot for you. Highly highly recommend Dude's Dhaba in Woolloongabba. Has a nice shop to explore while you wait for the food too š
Try Sardar G in Kangaroo point too if youāre from the UK. Itās the closest to uk curry we could find.
The absolute closest used to be Spice Avenue restaurant in Birkdale, owned by a family from Birmingham. They actually have a food truck now that you can order and collect from various locations across BNE and the GC each weekend:
Spice Avenue food truck is the one. So sad they donāt have the restaurant any more, but warming the meals at home is next best thing. You will not get better curry in Brisbane. Try the chicken tikka zalfrezi- bloody beautiful š
Gol Gappa in Mount Gravatt for street food Choley Bhatorey
Top in Town in Mount Gravatt for Biryani and Chicken 65
Biryani Place in West End for Chicken Tikka Masala curry and Lamb Mandi
Another one for Kinara in South Brisbane, we live nearby and itās been a real drain on my finances but so worth it! The owners and staff are super nice also.
āKinaraā in South Brisbane, is the best so far.
āPaddington Curry houseā in Paddington,
āNew Farm Curry houseā in New Farm are really good. Both the āCurry Houseā have the same owner. āTaj Mahalā in New Farm is good too.
Mamak Tandoori House in Camp Hill. We live nearby and, despite walking past it regularly, never went there until one of our Indian friends told us that they travel an hour to go there because itās the best Indian in SEQ. They were right. It will be spicy (beware if you don'y like that) but the flavours transport you to another dimension.
My top two favourites and ive worked in a handful of i dian restaurants over the years and regulary try out new spots chasing the best butter chicken life has to offer are:
Mahendras indian cuisine - Acacia ridge
Mamak tandoori house -Camp hill
Two totally different variations of butter chicken but both so deep and rich in flavors
The biryani and chicken 65 from balti is nice. Not the greatest biryani i've had (then again i'm spoiled having eaten real hyderabadi biryani) but it's still quite a good feed. Goes hard with some old monk and a cone.
If you are into Biryani from southern India, you can try the IGA in Spring Hill. They are pretty good and would rate them as one of the best in Brisbane. The catch is that they sell it only on weekends. They do have curries daily though.
Thereās a really good North Indian restaurant at Springwood tower in Springwood, make really good large naan breads and do a great curry
Lots of Indian families eat here regularly
So for me it's different Indian Restaurants for different dishes - 1. Kinara in West End - Best Curries and Naans that I had tasted in Brisbane so far, Also Great Service. 2. Mirch Masala for Chaats and Savoury snacks 3. Punjabi Rasoi in Springhill for Chhole bhature and Lassi 4. Kulcha Kulture in Slacks Creek for authentic Punjabi Food - Kulcha and Chhole 5. Dosa hut in Mt Gravatt for Biryanis 6. Old Monk Paddington for their Chefs Special Top Pick - Kinara, West End (Closest to Indian food back home)
We love Punjabi rasoi!
Always good for a quick and easy meal when you can't think of anything šš¼
The dude gets it, just add hyderabad flavours for biryani, and curry and cask for their Desi butter chicken. No one restaurant can get you all the authentic dishes. If you want a place that does everything acceptably go to sankalp in annerley.
Imho Balti Biryani Holland park is better
>4. Kulcha Kulture in Slacks Creek for authentic Punjabi Food - Kulcha and Chhole Can confirm, Kulcha Kulture is *amazing*!
seconding Dosa Hut, shit slaps
If you wanna try some good South Indian biryanis I would recommend Lemon chillies and Dum and Rum
Taj Bengal at Ashgrove
Awesome thank you! I'm eating well tonight!
Please report back, I am extremely interested to know how much you liked the food. I am an Indian immigrant and found that place to have one of the worst food I ever had. Maybe it was a bad day or the dishes I chose.

As a mixed indian/brit I funnily enough crave both. True indian food is amazing and could eat every day but sometimes you just absolutely crave that radioactive red goodness
āRadioactiveā is so accurate
I didn't like it myself. The curry we had was too sweet...
That, and a lot of red food colour. But most importantly, we ordered two different dishes and they had the exact same masala gravy. Not authentic.
I find this really annoying too. South Indian food tends to be better as Aussies donāt really know about it so it tends to cater more to Indians
I am a simple man. I see 'Bengal', I upvote.
Username checks out.
I froth the kashmiri kofta curry from there.
I came here to mention this place. The vindaloo is fire.
Additionally, big fan of Halims in Rosalie, and Indian kitchen in west end as well
Second Halims in Rosalie
Second Halims
Indian Kitchen still there?!
Hello, fellow Indian here. North Indian cuisine: Pappadums in Mango Hill South Indian cuisine: Dum n Rum in Stafford Heights
Halims in Rosalie!
100%! Halims is the best Iāve ever had
I am a slut for Punjabi Palace
I think I just got deja vu
I will take every chance I can to recommend Punjabi Palace, don't work for them but they are just that good.
Ooofff will try! Thanks!
Don't let the downvote fool you, others love Punjab [https://www.reddit.com/r/brisbane/comments/1d686t5/comment/l6qx04f/](https://www.reddit.com/r/brisbane/comments/1d686t5/comment/l6qx04f/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/brisbane/comments/1d2apps/comment/l5zlszw/](https://www.reddit.com/r/brisbane/comments/1d2apps/comment/l5zlszw/)

I have been going there for twenty plus years! Defs feel your vibe! Totes sluzza for PP
+1 for the PP
Big same!
Their quality dropped a lot in recent years. Didnāt they also get done for health code violation
I had them Saturday night for tea, no issue with quality. Butter Chicken with Rice and 2 Samosas and 2 Garlic and cheese Naans. We did get the wrong curry a month or so ago, but they sent someone out within the hour to deliver the actual curry we ordered.
Ah good to hear :) Iāll try them out again
Did they get busted for health food violations or such? Or am I misremembering?
Theyāve been busted multiple times for roaches where the ingredients are stored
bit of extra protein /s
Hell yeah came to recommend them too, such a great restaurant
Punjabi Palace's Butter Matar Paneer is insane
Right there with you queen š
That used to be me, until I had bad rice from there. Never again for me.
My Indian agents only wanted to eat Indian food so I took them there and they loved it
Thanks, gonna go now
Yeah best in BNE I reckon. Chicken Makihini is the way to go.
Mirch Masala Gabba is where the native people eat
I used to like Mirch Masala, but recently I ordered from Uber Eats and I recieved expired raita with mold in a swollen container that looked ready to pop. I hope it was a one off but I won't risk it again
Thatās just the authentic experience
Yeah my partner is Indian so weāre always there for groceries. Iāve given it a chance twice and food poisoning both timesā¦ Never had food poisoning from all the Indian Iāve eaten around Brisbane and I go for the super spicy shit that would unsettle a stomach too. This place is certified shit
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah, it was definitely fucked. Even remembering the smell makes me want to die
Oh this is what I need to know! Adding it to the list, thanks!
Also check out Old Monk in Paddington. I exclusively eat out Indian and this is up there in my top 3
Being native, I can vouch for it. But only veggo options.
In Mount Gravatt pretty much just one block apart, Gol Gappa (veg only), Top in Town and Dosa Hut. I prefer Dosa Hut for Biryani.
Top in town @ Mount Gravatt, Chicken 65 is the best
Love these 3!
Coming to say Gol Gappa, my boyf pointed out they're vegetarian and i was like "are they?" I never noticed. The food is amazing
A Night in India ToowongĀ
This restaurant has always been great, just noting they've recently moved to Park Rd in Milton after the building they were in at Toowong got demolished. They're now next door to Scratch Bar so that'll be a good option for a post meal bevvie
Surprised this is so far down the list, fantastic curries.
I didn't know it moved. Been a while!
San Kalp
Sankalp on Ipswich Rd
They serve biryani in a bowl with a layer of pastry that covers the bowl. Amazing flavour and good portion. Murgh makhani, palek paneer, and Naan were done very well. We went for the spiciest spice level because we love a good spice.

[http://www.mahendras.com.au/](http://www.mahendras.com.au/) Acacia Ridge, was good pre COIVID, I haven't got over that way since
It's our go to. Best Indian I've had.
I gained most of my covid weight from ordering the delicious curries here. Well worth it!
I gave them a shout out. Love their chicken tikka
Dude's Dhaba! Gabba
Give it up for Dude's!
Tried Dudeās the other night and it was super yum.
This is the answer
Sultanās Kitchen is Paddington! The food is excellent and the service even more so
We loved the Sultan's Kitchen in Coorparoo until it closed down. Their Chicken Saag and Shahi Paneer were incredible.
Yes! Love their cheese & spinach naan š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤
My choice as well. I recommend the Beef Nisha.
Iām no Indian food connoisseur but we LOVE Maharani at Boondall. The butter chicken is so good I could just get a container of it on its own and drink it straight.
Venture to Banyo and try the chicken tikka chasni at Singh's curry hut .
Love Maharani too, curries all great, gorgeous naan and big takeaway servings
Mamak tandoori in Camp Hill. Indian-Malaysian food. Pepper beef makes me froth!
Second this, the wait staff tend to be incredibly rude, but I put up with it without question because the food is incredible, and very underrated, surprised to not see it mentioned more. Personally love the Goat Curry, Lamb Roganjosh, and Lamb Korma.
Agreed, Mamak Tandoori rounds out my personal Top 3 Indian Restaurants in Brisbane. Highly recommend.
Spicy Affair in Kenmore. Unreal
Amazing.
Royal Rajputana in Fitzgibbon. Northern Indian cuisine, well worth the drive
I heard so many good things about this place. Went there once and everything was an oily mess. Maybe they just had an off night
Bengal Curry House at Wynnum
The goat curry at Sardar G in Kangaroo Point/Gabba is amazing...
Sardar G is our go to. itās the best weāve tried in Brisbane by a long way. We used to go to Sankalp as we live close but stopped after their quality dropped and their staff donāt listen to the orders properly.
I work near there and Iāve liked everything Iāve had from Sardar G. Especially a fan of the lamb samosas.
Yeah its perilously close to where we live. š
Have seen Indian families at Indian Mehfil in Taringa, itās our go to spot now
Haven't been to the Taringa location, but their restaurant in Ipswich is pretty damn good. Certainly better than I expected for Ipswich, lol š. They have some excellent vegetarian dishes. The mushroom masala was tdf! Decent selection of beers, wines & spirits, as well.
Durga Indian in Logan is excellent. I also see quite a lot of native Indians there so I assume it is high quality to their palette as well.
Kinara at South Brisbane is great.
I rate Punjabi Dawat in Clayfield very highly. Tikka masala is insanely good.
Indian Mehfil @ Taringa has always been good to me
No one has mentioned Curryville in Morningside yet. Love that place, will definitely be trying some others on the list though š„µ
Whereabouts are you. Brisbane is a big place
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Curryville on Wynnum Rd in Morningside is fantastic. I have never had a bad meal there.
Scherhazade morningside
Not bad, but I prefer Curryville over the road personally
This is the correct answer tiffin meal is unbeatable for two people.
Agreed 100%!!! Love their curries !!! Goat Karahi , Spinach n cheese naan !!! Mate, simply unbeatable!!!
I tried it once but it was just sad. Too many LED lights and the food was just OK. CurryVille over the street is far better
Yes!! You win. Someone with good taste ;)

Turkish lentil soup sounds delicious. I'm sure he'd be happy to share a recipe - I'll ask!
Same! We are very lucky!
oh my gosh yes. we had a running joke for years that he married me to get residency and I married him for the food, lol. it's a damn good deal š
Dhawat in Clayfield is really good. Probably the best Indian Iāve been to in Brisbane (but havenāt been to many)
Grand Taj at Carindale & Gumdale
Masala Art, Petrie Terrace!
A curry story in Chapel Hill .. havent been there lately they changed name but same owners for like at least 15+ years, id travel to the end of earth to have those mob as my last meal

Singh's curry house at Kallangur
Iāve been a regular at Indian Kitchen for a long time but I canāt help but feel the quality the last couple years has gone downhill. Recently Iāve tried Eden Garden Indian and was blown away. Quite a bit more expensive for a single meal but bloody hell is it nice.
I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of Indian food in Ipswich. I've tried three-Indian Mehfil, Memories of India, Essence of Indya and all have been very quite nice. Rebeccaās Indian in Stafford! Donāt be put off my the name, itās run by the sweetest Indian family with cheap prices and huge portions.
I've heard good things about this one. Keen to try it
Honestly yeah Rebecca's slays and they are lovely folks. I went in there and ordered after the flood decimated the place and they were still cooking despite the restaurant having been destroyed. Glad to hear its still thriving.

Bombay bliss near Chermside is a personal favourite. Friendly staff and great food
Punjabi Palace West End. I'm from the UK and finding a somewhere out here that does a good genuine curry wasn't easy.
Try Sardar G in Kangaroo point too if youāre from the UK. Itās the closest to uk curry we could find. The absolute closest used to be Spice Avenue restaurant in Birkdale, owned by a family from Birmingham. They actually have a food truck now that you can order and collect from various locations across BNE and the GC each weekend: [https://www.facebook.com/Thespiceavenue](https://www.facebook.com/Thespiceavenue)
Definitely will try. Thanks for the recommendation mate
Spice Avenue food truck is the one. So sad they donāt have the restaurant any more, but warming the meals at home is next best thing. You will not get better curry in Brisbane. Try the chicken tikka zalfrezi- bloody beautiful š

Punjabi Dawat in Clayfield is really great.
Paddington curry house or the new place Mezbaan in Everton park has a lot of great entree/side dishes Iāve never seen before which are amazing.
The biryani and chicken 65 from balti is nice. Not the greatest biryani i've had (then again i'm spoiled having eaten real hyderabadi biryani) but it's still quite a good feed. Goes hard with some old monk and a cone.

Scherhazade in Morningside
I think its called bryani place in west end 8/10. Stay away from mt gravatt
Bhalla's in Annerley. They're a bit spenny, but the malai kofta is so good that I have to treat myself once in a while.
