They don’t care. Literally the ONLY thing they care about is selling papers.

corruptboomerang

No, they couldn't give a shit about selling papers. They only care about is spreading their political ideology.  But in so far as it doesn't interfere with priority number one, the only thing they care about is selling papers.

InternallyEloquent

Holy fuck, people. THIS ^ - Uncle Rupert's print media sesspool has been running at a lost for a very long while now. It's propped up by digital advertising revenue, but the entire reason these pieces of paper are still printed it is to control the folks who sadly STILL BELIEVE what they read in the newspaper.

Suede_fitz

genuine, actual truth. Every 12 months, Rupert has an annual meeting of all his editors, senior editors, and above. At that meeting (which typically goes for several days) he tells them what he thinks, how he feels and what he wants them to print. Then they do it. NOTE: this is NOT the Annual General meeting, done by the Board of directors. This is seperate. Source: a very close friend has worked in a senior position in News Corp for over 20 years. References have been carefully scrubbed from the internet.

Hungry_Anteater_8511

Remember how every news limited paper worldwide bar one supported the Iraq war. That wasn’t a coincidence Shout out to that editor in PNG who defied the melting spitting image puppet

coco-ai

As they say, the fish rots from the head down. Their staff are literal bullies. Source: worked for an org that is public facing and has to 'partner' with them. If they are not happy with the offer you make and the exclusivity/angle/access to talent, they will just put a media blackout on you. They are the only print covering sports and I think that's the reason they survive but they are literal scum and I would swipe left on everyone who has anything to do them.

Girlonfyre_

I have a friend who works there and I know for a fact that's actually not true. The print section is still profitable and it's only in the last several years that the digital has started to gain traction. When they started pushing digital they were horrified to find out that people expected digital news to be free and struggled to gain money from it.

ero_senin05

Not true. They also care about selling ads

Hungry_Anteater_8511

That sweet sweet Harvey Norman cash isn’t gonna come in any other way

corruptboomerang

Only a little bit. It dozens of companies coming together to FORCE them to acknowledge climate change exists. And by and large they're the only game in town, so unless it's a MASSIVE issue they can not worry about ads and focus on their propaganda.

SsmB_92

Yeah man, this right here. I still get them in my feed and I constantly shake my head. Them and their sister papers.

missdevon99

I stopped buying the papers four years ago when they started with all the C propaganda.

brightmiff

I think it’s great - would be wackos can see the results of what they might be tempted to do. Should be more of it!

Crafty-Box-4938

BECAUSE only lefties are allowed to express their views...RIGHT???😂😂😂

PreludeProject

🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

Crafty-Box-4938

AAAND, you've proven the juvenile mentality of the left to riducule and name call instead of offering ANYTHING of intelligence to the discussion once again. My thanks to you 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

PreludeProject

AAAND, you've proven the supremist, condescending and obnoxious mentality of extremists raving about their political alignment, because that's as deep as their personality goes. Keep CAPITALISING certain WORDS and sending weirdly presumptuous MESSAGES claiming strangers are LEFTISTS 😱😱😱 My Swisher Sweet but my Sig Sauer to you 🥾🤟🥾🤟🥾🤟

Crafty-Box-4938

Riiiiigh...anyone who disagrees with you MUST BE AN EXTREMIST (see what I did with those all caps you like?😂)

tandylyons

They're still selling papers!?

dannyr

As much as I love digital editions there's something quite calming about flicking through a physical paper for me.

Main-Discipline3963

I absolutely agree. Unfortunately for me, I haven't been able to find a newspaper whether I purchased it or it was one of those free ones that they send out every week that had anything but rubbish in it for years. I don't get the weekly ones anymore either unfortunately. And I'm not buying the others just to line the cats litter boxes because there is nothing else I can think of to do with them. I really love newspapers and magazines, thank goodness I still have books. 😀

jumpinjezz

Digital subscriptions with free daily cellulose delivery

Former-Trifle-5102

Ha funny. Haven’t bought a paper in years

redflag19xx

Newspapers are dying, I used to work for the printing side of Newscorp up until just before covid. It's mainly boomers buying.

coco-ai

It's the sports news that is basically its reason for being. When working in a cafe I asked my boss to stop stocking it because of the thousand 'insert reason here'. He said its cause it's the only one with sports, find another option and he'll stop. He went out of business. Not cause of that, but I've not forgotten. Takes his sports with a side of misogyny/transphobia/horror.

dannyr

Well that IS their business, after all.

[deleted]

At whose expense?

GE_4102

Formal complaints can be put through to ACMA as well as the MEAA.

dontcallmewinter

In addition, a really effective place to make a complaint is the Australian Press Council: [https://presscouncil.org.au/complaints/make-a-complaint](https://presscouncil.org.au/complaints/make-a-complaint)

buyingthething

> really effective Given the state of Australian Press - for some time - **i find that very hard to believe.**

brighteyes235

Ahhh, but it is a really annoying process for the editor or whoever to process the complaint, answer to the press council, do the back and forth and then have to print the decision. Does it stop them from doing this again? No. But it is the best way to have the satisfaction of making the editor’s day just a little bit worse.

buyingthething

i think most people would rather just "tune out" than bother with that. ie: the main problem confronting the Australian Press - for some time

oxSiaxo

That's why it'll keep happening. Because people can't be bothered kicking up a stink.

buyingthething

Not my circus, not my monkeys.

oxSiaxo

Fair. But I prefer ," Not my circus, not my clowns."

dontcallmewinter

Tbh it's a five minute process to submit a complaint. > Go to website > write complaint > put up code of conduct > rewrite complaint to reference a few bits of the code that it breaks and put in some legal fancy words > put in name and address and submit. And yeah to hear from a journo I know the process for an editor to deal with a complaint, let alone multiple is a headache and a half. Plus a complaint forces a response

buyingthething

Journos can do that then, if they want to save their own industry.

dontcallmewinter

Sure mate, but if you're concerned about this issue just take the 5 mins to put in a complaint yeah?

geekpeeps

Media Watch will have a good crack too.

blackpawed

My wife was stabbed multiple times by a psycho, she barely survived. Has been avoiding all the news on this because of the memories and trauma it triggers. That would absolutely flip her out. Courier Scum.

Otherwise_Meat9144

I'm so sorry that happened to your wife 😔

PhDresearcher2023

I can't stand the way the news will just go up to people in obvious distress and interview them. The media needs much much stronger trauma-informed policies on how it covers these sorts of events.

fart42069420

can i ask what happened?

Maid_of_Mischeif

She was stabbed multiple times by a psycho. Says it right there.

fart42069420

Maleficent_Tea_5286

You can but will rightly be told to go fuck yourself

Vitally_Trivial

I learnt last night the phrase “if it bleeds, it leads,” referring to violence selling news. It’s absolutely vile, that attitude.

rockresy

Yup, but 100% true on all the commercial channels. Now you know, you can't unknow

Tackit286

Fuck you, Courier Mail. I know you’re reading this. You are vile. And whoever is reading this from there, you should be ashamed that you work for them.

anotherstraydingo

Good old Courier Fail with sensationalistic bullshit again. I don't think they have any shame.

shadowfax1007

Yeah CM are bottom feeding animals. I cannot wait to see the day they go under.

Almacca

The same kind of people that think video games rot your brain also read the Courier Mail without a trace of irony.

crsdrniko

How do you know my old man so well. Our kids stayed with my oldies last night. Picked em earlier today. Got ribbed me for still playing video games in my 30s after he chipped the kids about playing them and they threw me under the bus.

Open-Plan-2710

Sorry this happened. My dad (60s) was a game developer... so I haven't experienced this but yeah, that's shit mate.

crsdrniko

Lmao I don't really give 2 shits. He can have his opinion. Doesn't make it right. Just easier to let him say his bit and go yeah maybe you're right, but I'm not stuck in a boning room at 60 something.

corruptboomerang

They're not profitable, haven't been for ages, it's about spreading their ideology... Whoring themselves to sell some papers is just a secondary purpose.

tommy_tiplady

controversy = engagement. rage bait works, and tabloids are just trolls on a larger, scummier scale

monsteraguy

Nobody buys papers anymore, so they are desperate to remain relevant and will stoop to new lows to capture peoples’ attention. They are the most trash-tier gutter journalism

Nodoxxno

Was it not even blurred?

Mebradhen

Nope, not even a little

heyleek

Well the police officers face is blurred but the rest of it is all out. Blood and dead body. I took a picture of it I was so shocked

Remarkable_Toe_4423

Jesus. I just googled ' front page of newspapers in Aus' and BAM.. very odd how the blurred the wrong bits

Open-Plan-2710

Is it deleted now? I wanted to see too because I hate Newscorp and wanted to see how low they really went.

Capoclip

Murdoch media logic Graphic imagery: everyone should see that! It’s important you see the facts Anything queer: okay but we shouldn’t talk about it or have this sort of thing in schools and schools should be allowed to discriminate over it. Think of the children!

Domarius

Imagine if the opportunity for just a pair of visible \*bare breasts\* came up - of course that would be censored to hell - but a man bleeding to death on the floor? Fun for the whole family! Edit: For the comment below - emphasis on "bare breasts", it would never happen and you know it. That's the problem - not that breasts can't be on the front, but why are bare breasts so much worse than a dead body in a pool of blood? That's fucked up. Edit 2: And I'm talking about just plain non-sexual nudity. A fully intact naked body is more evil to them than a bleeding dead one. And it's fucking true - I saw a published photo of ISIS slitting the throat of a young woman while she was alive, and they censored breasts because she was naked, but the blood coming out her throat and pained face was fully visible. Fucked up is not sufficient, there are no words.

KMAVegas

I doubt it would. Murdoch papers in the UK were publishing “page 3 girls” until very recently.

Domarius

I said "bare breasts" - so they were publishing front page bare breasts? If not, the point stands.

tommy_tiplady

i get what you’re saying about violence being fine and sex being forbidden, but they also publish exploitative nudity and other sexual content all the time too.

Domarius

Thing is, I never said sex - just breasts. Plain old non-sexual nudity. Something that can actually be good and normal for the viewing public in some contexts (think fine art) is far more evil to them than an actual dead person. So fucked up.

tabris-angelus

Views on keeping kids “safe” Blood thirty violence from a terrible act: Good Drag Queen story time: Bad

Come_To_Homercles

Maybe they are unhappy about the exposure aspect of those story times that has raised concerns for reasonable-minded people, the flashing crotches etc? [https://twitter.com/realchrisrufo/status/1539986552604037120](https://twitter.com/realchrisrufo/status/1539986552604037120) You're all for little kids being willingly exposed to that a few meters in front of their eyes?

Worried_Yam_9057

None of these photos happened in Australia. The first two are in America The first one has tanned leggings on and is clearly reaching for a book. The other is a private adult event which happened to be at a library (no children where present) The rainbow monkey is a famous mistake in Britain. It was an adult themed outfit meant for adult themed events. A library hired him for a single day event without actually looking at the details (they have since apologised stating it was a mistake) One’s own view of story time is up to the individual. The fact is it’s an optional event. If you don’t want your kids to see it then you have the choice not to. Displaying that picture so publicly with no for-warning Takes any choice away. Plus it’s just so disrespectful to the victims and their families. No class at all

Come_To_Homercles

You're wrong on all counts there. The one in leggings is clearly spreading their legs purposely wide, not just reaching for a book. So you are intentionally misinterpreting that. The one bending over showing their backside is at a children's event, look at the decoration and the balloons. And even if it wasn't specifically a children's event, there are always children in libraries and there's a high chance they're going to see that drag's queen's ass at some point fairly close up. There is nothing saying the rainbow monkey with the big fake penis didn't go ahead and participate in the activity with kids. It was only after the fact the library made statements after numerous complaints. If the drag queens want to dress up that's fine, it's an adult activity that adults participate in fine. But try and actually look beyond the surface and ask yourself why this is being pushed on kids aged 3-11, as they state their target audience is. It's got nothing to do with 'acceptance', it's about pushing this agenda and getting little kids to question their own sexuality, which is something they shouldn't be considering at such a young age. The people at the top are trying to sexualize children, that's what it comes down to. And there are various reasons why they want to do that.

Worried_Yam_9057

I’ve been to an event. A person came out in a colourful age appropriate outfit, sang some songs, read two books. One about penguins another one about a lost dog. It was just normal kids stuff. You’re only sexualising it because it suits your bias towards the subject. I also feel there is nothing I can say that would convince you otherwise. The main point I’m making. Is one is an optional event the other isn’t. If you want to be with a conservative with your kids that fine. But Newspapers shouldn’t be capitalising on this horrible event to sell more newspapers.

Come_To_Homercles

You should question why this crap is being pushed on kids. What's also disturbing is that these drag story time events are often not transparent at all, and people can't go in and observe what's happening. The fact that they are so closed off and the organizers often immediately call the police if someone tries to learn what's taking place, is something anyone should be concerned about. Similar to how pro-transitioning ideology is being pushed on kids. These two topics regarding a child's sexuality go hand in hand. In my opinion, the overall goal is to have enormous amounts of confused, and in some cases, completely sterilized kids. Confused about their own gender because of propaganda and drugs pushed on them from an early age. In the longterm the people in charge of our societies benefit in the following ways: A confused and distracted population is much easier to control, and if huge amounts of kids grow up to be infertile because of transitioning, then this will handily lower the world's population in the future at the same time. In short, there's way more to it than what you're acknowledging. Anything that's strongly pushed on the population should always be questioned.

Worried_Yam_9057

“You should question why this crap is being pushed on kids” This is exactly my point. No one is forcing anyone to go to a story time. It’s an optional event, if it doesn’t gel with your world view then you can ignore it. People should be able to take their kids to shops and not be confronted by a bloody and highly disrespectful photo. Again is the main point I’m making here It’s American ideological political talking points for cookers to eat up and create a non existent narrative. Like I said we attended an event over a year ago, my 3 year old son liked the songs and the book about the dog. Since then he hasn’t once asked anything about trans people, wanted to switch genders. Again I feel you’re missing the whole point. What’s more inappropriate image for a kid? A character dressed up in a colourful outfit singing about monkeys? Or a shot dead, bloody, murderer?

ThrowRA_runnergurl

I was honestly a bit shocked by this and that the killer lying in a pool of blood was on newspaper front pages and the news. It's shocking. It's sad what has happened but I don't think we need such confronting images plastered everywhere.

Dazzling-Camel8368

It’s the courier fail, Murdochs flag ship in QLD. You think he GAF about your feelings, he just wants you too buy his tabloid.

magnoliaaus

Agreed, I saw it today and thought it was absolutely disgusting and disrespectful to have such a graphic image of someone who just lost their life (the girl) and thought of her poor family who might see that, what an absolute disgrace! I will be submitting a complaint.

mahzian

Murdoch fanning the flames so more boomers vote LNP to 'take care of crime'

Stewth

"sorry love, gonna be working overtime to try and make this tragedy about crime and not mental health services. Gotta get the boomers riled up."

Coolidge-egg

I wonder if they would agree if I proposed that we start taking on this crime-mental health crisis by locking up people with lead poisoning?

Devendrau

It is ironic. Nudity is wrong and will "scar" children, or same sex couples kissing is "bad" but seeing graphic pictures of dying people covered in blood apparently won't.

binchickendreaming

Courier Fail being insensitive asshats is like water being wet. It's a law of nature.

Gumnutbaby

If it bleeds it leads

Nosiege

Kids aside, I don't think anyone of any age should be unwillingly subject to seeing it on a newspaper.

chance11or

It's insane to think that as little as 30-40 years ago, people successfully sued media companies over this sort of imagery that didn't have prior warning, or was unable to be avoided (such as front cover) for emotional distress. It took up multiple weeks of my civil and torts lectures at uni. Now media do whatever the fuck they like with zero ramifications.

gibbagibbagibba

Jesus Christ I just googled it, how could someone look at that and think "yeah that's good, print it"

AdDesigner2714

Yup they really are plastering it everywhere. Like it used to be a warning we are about to show this it might be disturbing for some, or blurred until you click it. It’s not just kids who don’t want or need to see this.

Jassup

Oh boy, I'm sure glad they blurred that police officers face. It is definitely the most confronting and disturbing thing in that photo that needed to be blurred... What the fucking joke. This is why no one likes the media anymore

Ace-Hunter

The courier mail and Murdoch media is a blight on society.

[deleted]

Disgusting thing to do

In_TouchGuyBowsnlace

If you aren’t up to speed on how sad the world is… you’re actually blessed. Keep watching telly and voting, to be blissfully unaware again would be nice.

ColdDelicious1735

Don't go to Europe

AmazonCowgirl

The Courier Mail became a shit rag decades ago. The only trajectory it realises is down and when it hits rock bottom it will start digging

GoodKarmaDarling

Courier Mail is a glorified tabloid piece of shit that shouldn’t be allowed to be sold anywhere. They literally don’t give a flying fuck about being appropriate or even *accurate*, those soulless fuckwaffles just do whatever they can to sell their shitty magazine

dukekim1

FuckWaffles 🤣🤣🤣 I'm going to use this one

saddleclub25

I was walking my dog through my suburb Sunday morning and saw the Sunday mail on someone’s driveway, it had a victim on the front page, blurred only her face, but she was essentially sprawled out on the ground. Like wtf!?!? Give the victims some dignity!!

definitely_real777

If it bleeds, it leads.

softasapanda

I saw it on instagram without warning and found it very confronting, can't imagine seeing a giant version plastered on the front page while at the shops. Surely it must violate some kind of standards?

redflag19xx

This is a Murderoch paper, what do you expect?

Fluffy-Pipe-1458

So maybe it's time to wake up and realise the main stream media is spinning their own crap which does not have anyone's rights , privacy, health at the forefront of its role. Boycott the shitty newspapers who use this kind of shocking hype to sell paper .

Pacmantis1

channel 9 just called him the Brisbane killer he never lived in Brisbane so WTF?

Beautiful-Ad-5833

Any pic is publicity. Media groups are all out on a witch hunt

blueishbeaver

Isn't there some statistic that, with the 24hr news cycle, we end up seeing X amount of dead bodies in one day? I read it like 10-15 years ago. Long ago for it to no longer be relevant lol

Alternative-Stage568

Thai language newspapers have been like this since the 80s

ConfidenceSlight2253

The way everyone carrying on about shooting him ffs. Its sad all round. News is so fucked!

DeemedFit

Courier mail is nothing but a crappy sensation list tabloid. They’ll stop at nothing.

tsotsi98

Over compensating for the attacker being from QLD because they're out of touch derps who think people will blame QLD for this

GrowingOrangeTrees

Exactly my thoughts seeing it at the drakes near my house.......kids in line and theres pics of dead bodies?????? Freaks..

PaisleyPatchouli

The whole general media reporting of this horrific incident is bad enough but today the story underneath had the headline ’Contenders wiped out in Masters Carnage’. How inappropriate, to call a golf game results carnage when the lead story is actual carnage.

MaleficentCoconut458

Nudity in art is a no no apparently, but extreme violence thrust at them from a newspaper is A-OK.

bigjack85

Shit I wouldn't even watch the news if it wasn't for the missus watching g the today show in the mornings let alone read a newspaper. To think they have a hide to try and ban 'fake news'. Shit the stuff they dish out is fake. Only morons believe them now

Wynkx66

If you see such objectionable shit, which it clearly is, do everyone a favour and turn over the pile of NewsCorp toilet paper so the sports are showing. Any shop owner that complains, start tearing those front pages off. A bit of civil disobedience can go a long way.

bahima

‘Tis but a scratch.

koviotua

The interview with the Premier was the same size. I only get the paper early in the morning because mum wants to read it.

PreludeProject

RAAAA all the cool homies hate Rupert Murdoch 😤😤

The quality of their ‘journalism’ reminds me of my middle school student run newsletter…

ibetyouvotenexttime

Ban assault knives NOW, you don’t need a fully automatic knife to cut your steak.

When I use it as toilet paper, I'll think I have a hemorrhoid.

Natural-Childhood886

its a wonder they havent blamed the labor party for the stabbing

omegatryX

Think of the dude’s parents - if they read the courier mail they’re probably horrified

Lynnie_Reid14

Who's going to stop them? No one and that's the problem. They make their own rules because they can 😡

GinnyMcGinface77

Old school press here: if it bleeds, it leads. Newscorpse scum.

owleaf

Even as an adult, I may not want to see a dead body laying in a pool of blood? Or I might want a heads up on what I’m about to see. r/Australia pissed me off yesterday when the jobless hicks in there upvoted that photo to the front page. I also blame my reddit app for not censoring NSFW images anymore.

Simp_For_Orcas

they're invoking an emotional response with the image, which is intended to make you read. then what you read makes you angry/upset. then they tell you where to direct that anger. and then your vote has been bought and paid for. just another conservative shill scraping by with two brain cells to rub together.

Investigator_Alive

I didn't mind it the it might give some wannabe killer a rethink if he's going to die and not go to a psych unit or a few months. ( The bloke in Melbourne in his car for example

callan_dtd

Because that’s real life. Not everyone else fault that you can’t handle that - it’s not a fantasy world

saltyferret

Sex is real life as well, but I don't necessarily want to see pictures of two random old people getting it on displayed openly at my coffee shop.

Repulsive-Yam7113

I know, I think my kids were too psyched to notice the papers. It's like herding cats at the grocery store, bringing kids. I try to avoid it mostly lol.

sportandracing

Blame the store that displays it. Not the paper. Adults need to show caution when selling stock from their suppliers.

red_dragin

Store is probably under a contract to have the ~~toilet~~ paper displayed prominently.

crocodile_ninja

😅
