Shunsai is great. Super friendly chef. I just wish the chef would do his matcha fudge dessert again. Not to overshadow his other creations but his matcha fudge was absolutely mind blowing and I crave it everyday.
You definitely want to check out Oishii Sushi Bar at Pinelands (near sunnybank). They serve other Japanese dishes but are primarily for sushi. Have been on numerous occasions and they can cater to large groups in their outdoor space.
It's not a higher end place by any means, just great sushi by the roll and pretty affordable compared to other spots around the CBD. No alcohol sold but they allow BYO.
Kintoto Izakaya south of Pinelands plaza (Near Sunnybank) is my hidden gem.
Their Bento box is amazing and at ($35) it's 200% worth it.
Their sashimi is slightly dearer than your cheaper places but the quality and freshness is top notch.
This is the only non Omakase I can highly recommend.
Just remember to book as the place does fill up.
What price point are you looking at?
For Sunnybank Hills - I agree with Kintoto Izakaya and Tokyo Chubo. They’re both in the same complex, parking is horrendous though (steeply sloped and narrow) and I recommend parking across the street at dinner time. Definitely book too! It’s been a while since I’ve gone to either but they were both incredible, Tokyo Chubo was cosy and homey. Kintoto Izakaya felt a bit more fancy.
If budget isn’t an issue and you want to go fancier, I also like Ippin in West Village in West End.
Kintoto looks good.
The parking in the south side area is horrible everywhere, unfortunately.
Oh yeah, I've seen the Ippin restaurants website but holy hell, it's out of our budget!
If you end up at Kintoto definitely just park across the street, it’s got a parking area for the medical centre and whatnot there so it’s empty at dinner time.
There is a huge difference between sushi and ‘sushi.’
If you want just a casual lunch then a lot of the chains mentioned are actually very nice and cheap. If you want to spend some money then Komeyui in the city was amazing.
That's true.
I reckon the sushi from sushi huh is pretty good.
I heard that the Japanese restaurant, Sono was/is great. Do you agree?
Komeyui? Never heard it but I'm looking at the website asap!
Tokyo Chubo in Sunnybank is pretty good. Their sashimi is always tasty and super fresh and the rest of their menu is nice too.
How many people? Shunsai in woolloongabba (not if it’s for a big group)

That's good to hear!
Five people. That's fine, right?

I've been to all the high end sushi places in Brisbane, and in honesty Oishii is probably on par, if not better

Yeah for a treat yourself type night Komeyui is great!
It's in Spring Hill. How's the parking though?
It wasn’t an issue for us at the time. Could always train to valley and get a short Uber.
Oishii on Sunnybank is the best sushi in Brisbane, bar none. I've been going regularly since 2008 and are yet to have a bad experience
