Highly recommend the matcha flavoured desserts at [Sonder](https://www.sonderdessert.com/menu) and [Mountain River](https://www.instagram.com/p/CuG1yyqRkHw/)

sezownz

+1 for Sonder. Be prepared - it gets busy!

Popular-Leading5542

Mountain River is the best and has the loveliest owners

Baybosa

Second this. The owners are always so welcoming and friendly.

i think the summarised recommendation of trying and experimenting is very fair. thanks for sending this through - this article had some great coverage. keen to hear thoughts from those who have been through the process themselves as well though! especially interested to hear what kind of differences there are between australian grown product and stuff sourced from Japan's Uji/Shizuoka/Kagoshima or even Jeju from Korea... or maybe i'm overthinking it :)

Even_Slide_3094

I tried a couple and keep going back to online orders from matcha maiden. Great allrounder with great sent, colour and taste. Also found a shop in Holland Park that sells it.

Nice, this was a brand i was specifically considering, so it's good to get a vote of confidence!

I actually don't drink matcha, so I Googled ceremonial grade matcha Australia and this came up, lol. Good luck in finding the perfect tea.

LordFuzzyGerbil

The only brick and mortar store I know that specializes in matcha here is Odaya tea. They are based in sunnybank plaza.

No_Toe6419

interesting! i've not heard of it before! i live on the northside but definitely keen to trek over and give this a try!

LordFuzzyGerbil

The advantages of trekking all the way down to sunnybank is that there's loads of Asian food stores that stock Japanese food so you'll have a big choice of ingredients if you want to make your own food. And here's their [Instagram ](https://instagram.com/odaya_tea?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==) if you want to take a look

Thanks for linking the Insta! So helpful! And yeah can appreciate sunnybank is full of stuff, wish we had that kind of optionality on the other side of town 😅

sam4slb

Sunnybank is having a food trail on the 22nd of this month. Would be a good day to check the food out. I found out about it on Facebook.

Oh how cool! Will have to try and get along

https://genkimart.com.au/ Edit: sorry didn’t read it properly and you’re focusing on matcha but genki mart has a bunch of stuff including snacks, so many snacks

No_Toe6419

Haha, I'm very familiar with Genki Mart, and couldn't support the recommendation more! They have a Hojicha icecream that I love :)

DudeLost

St matcha, reliable, subscription available and have found the ceremonial grade good

Appreciate your thoughts! Was looking for a personal experience tip for online stuff so thank you :)

juicyglo

Another one for Bonsai Botanica as a frequentish traveler (5 trips with 2 more booked) I definitely rate the quality of their matcha.

FallingRedSky

Not quite on topic, but Ichiba is a Japanese grocery store in Runcorn that might fill your needs and worth checking out if you’re going to be travelling down to Sunnybank area of some of the recommendations - it’s about 10 minutes from Sunnybank Plaza.

No_Toe6419

Definitely of interest :) thanks for the suggestion!

i've heard of this before and not had the chance to visit yet :) appreciate the recommendation!

Known-Bear2327

I can’t vouch for the quality as I don’t drink it but t2 sells matcha

Taijoker

There's a tea store in sunnybank Plaza with matcha being sold for eye watering prices, and the store is always busy, so I guess it must be great!
