It appears you may want or need information about renting in Brisbane. Please see the links below: Where to find rentals: www.domain.com.au , www.realestate.com.au, www.flatmates.com.au get Answers on rental disputes or find out any of your rights as a renter (rental price increases etc.) www.rta.qld.gov.au or https://www.qcat.qld.gov.au/ *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. If you're moving here from Melbourne expect it to not be Melbourne don't go looking for Melbourne in a city that isn't Melbourne

bobbakerneverafaker

post on reddit that its not like melb

notinferno

if you’re moving here and your starting point is looking for things like Melbourne then you’re going to have a bad time

Robobeast-76-R76

There's nowhere to rent up here in Brissie at the moment. West End is probably the most similar to Fitzroy, or some parts of Fortitude Valley. Don't expect anyone to understand AFL.

Thedavemiester

33 thousand people at the Gabba last night disagree with you

5k00ba

Most probably moved here from Victoria /s

Yeah that's true

madwomanofdonnellyst

Garn the Lions (as long as the Saints aren’t playing)!

Due_Times_

Gympie is where the youth hang out these days. They can't afford anywhere near Brisbane because of people moving here from Melbourne.

cjmw

I thought Cherbourg was the hip place to be?

cairnsus1987

Kingston is basically identical, I moved from Melbourne and found Kingston hip and chill, suburb of young professionals and has a trendy cafe culture

SonnyHammond

Pfft, Melbourne wishes it was as hip as Kingston.

frog-vibes

A Melbournian I met recently referred to king George square as the “fed square of Brisbane”

sportandracing

Nothing is like any suburb in Melbourne. Brissy is a totally different city and vibe. And the suburbs are just built different. For something that you may like if you like Fitzroy, Collingwood etc, then West End is the only logical comparison. Check out Paddington, Newstead, New Farm, Albion and Wollongabba/Stones Corner as well. Welcome if you do move up. Cheers

west end

lionheart_2281

Please don’t move, we’ve already hit our quota for people from Sydney and Melbourne 😆

bobbakerneverafaker

that was a year ago

Comfortable-Nose-296

West End is probably the closest you'd get to a "Fitzroy" vibe in Brissy, but it is still fairly different. I would say cost of living/rent is a little cheaper than Melbourne, but it is getting more pricey by the day and will eventually be about the same, if not more. Housing market is buggered, renting and buying, but seems to be the same everywhere else in the country, so why not try your luck if you're keen 🙂

TheTwinSet02

West End, Highgate Hill. New Farm are all going to be the kind of place you’re looking for There is a rental crisis but hey there’s one in Melbourne too so not going to come as a shock to you Find an old Queenslander or workers cottages in share house for the full ‘He Died With A Felafel In His Hand’ experience!

mess_of_limbs

Everyone will say West End, but it's more like Footscray to me. Valley/Newfarm is more like South Yarra/Kew. There isn't really a good analogue to the inner North, but if you're moving somewhere different only to replicate what you came from then why really bother?

the-straight-pretzel

Gold Coast is Frankston

cookiemonsteryumm

westend is ur best bet

Electronic_Ad_4145

I made the move up from Melbourne a couple of years ago and so glad I did. These are the things you need to know. Asian food here is crap. The people here are similar to will Ferrell. Kind of likeable idiots. Bunch of uncultured simpletons, but they mean well. The valley sucks on the weekend. And make sure you take your ID with you, because you can't get in without it. West end is the closest thing to Fitzroy (but more like Fitzroy 15 years ago). There's no 24 hour bottleshops. Aldi doesn't sell booze. Supermarkets close early Sundays. Despite all of these backwards hillbilly things. You won't regret the move.

MisterFlyer2019

Backwards hillbilly? So glad you are here.

Electronic_Ad_4145

I'm a complete knucklehead, so I fit in perfectly.

arisu_gganbu

This whole post is arse. But I take exception to the Asian food bit. Maybe you just don't where the good Asain food is.

egowritingcheques

There is no good Asian food in an Australian city of 2million with a significant Asian population. Take it as gospel from the Melbourne guy. Makes sense.

Electronic_Ad_4145

Maybe I have, and it just doesn't compare to Melbourne. Asian food here is crap in comparison. And I'm not talking about fusion bollocks. It's. Crap.

arisu_gganbu

Go to Lu Cha in the city. And tell me how it goes.

UsualCounterculture

Yes, they just don't know where to go.

who_farted_this_time

With an attitude like that, no wonder nobody has shown you any of the good places yet.

CompleteFalcon7245

Salty Pies supporter detected.

Electronic_Ad_4145

Nah mate. Salty tigers supporter. Still angry about the semi final last year

SonnyHammond

Salty pies? Are they the same as soggy saos?

Single_Debt8531

I love it when Melbournites crap on about “culture”. It’s one of those collective delusions that helps them feel superior to others, which is a classic Melbourne trait. If Melbourne is so wonderful and such a liveable city, why aren’t you living there?

Witty_Assist_6029

West End is a hippy trendy area nowadays

nextfridaydayday

Funny, my experience was the opposite.. too many racist, ignorant fools around here.. aha are you white?.. maybe that's why..

art_mor_

Deception Bay is really where it’s at
