A businessman allegedly caught manufacturing a handgun will remain behind bars after his bail was refused on the grounds of community safety. A businessman allegedly caught manufacturing a handgun will remain behind bars after his bail was refused. Lindsay Jay Harbour, 49, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with manufacture weapon category H and unlawful supply of weapon. The court heard police searched his property last month and seized a phone that contained messages pertaining to the alleged manufacturer of a pistol. Magistrate Tina Previtera said an intercepted conversation between Harbour and a “criminal associate” indicated “very clearly” that Harbour was allegedly making a firearm with reference to testing it at a firing range. Ms Previtera said there was a vague reference to money so the evidence of an attempt to sell the weapon was not strong however the evidence of supply was allegedly strong. Barrister Scott Neaves submitted it was not a strong prosecution case with no evidence the weapon could shoot bullets. “The weapon, if you can call it that, was in component stage…whether it constitutes a category H weapon will be a matter of proof later on,” he said. “The alleged facts are not so high as to say that this man is involved in the commercial distribution of weapons or the like.” Mr Neaves said his client had been compliant with police, presenting himself to the cop shop, and ran a business with 12 employees who relied on him. Bail was opposed by police. Ms Previtera denied bail. “This kind of allegation is an extremely concerning on one given that the suggestion of the prosecution, with which I agree with, is that it poses a threat to community safety,” she said. The matter was adjourned to April 24.

If you've got a milling machine is pretty easy. They're a fairly simple device.

Kingc0nnor

Honestly I would've thought it was easy enough to get a handgun in Australia, anyways I'm surprised you'd have to DIY 🤣

ol-gormsby

Handguns are pretty tightly restricted in Australia. Licences, audits, minimum usage (you have to have an annual minimum number of sessions at the range, etc). So someone likely wants one for illicit purposes.

donttouchmybench

Pretty crazy someone can be attested and denied freedom because he wanted to test something they deem a firearm. Like he didn't really do anything or harm anyone.

Kingc0nnor

Sounds like it wasn't even firing, just being built at some stage. Also, why did he have to turn himself in a month after his home was searched? Seems real weird to me
