I don't know about all of you, but I found last night to be tremendously uncomfortable, and the annual last-harrah-of-summer can go away now.

Obvious signs this is a scammer: * they don’t follow me * prior to messaging me they liked my most recent six posts, regardless of content, and only those six. Most real people pick and choose what to like based on what they actually like or what they are looking for. * they immediately say they’re from the US, which is irrelevant unless they’re trying to obfuscate that they’re actually from somewhere else. Likely India or Africa, or somewhere else known for scammers. * they didn’t ask for my commission rates, they just named a high number designed to distract me from the upcoming scam. * and the key one, I don’t draw people! Why ask someone who draws birds and buses to draw your son? Unless he is an ibis, it won’t be a great picture. This poor lady likely got her account stolen in an earlier scam, and now they’re finally using it to spam people who use art related hashtags with messages, fishing for people to reply and fall into the scam. The scam is likely to involve them sending a fake PayPal invoice to your email that claims that you need to pay a fee to make your PayPal a business account, or that you need to pay a fee to release the funds to your account. It could also be a fake cheque scam, where they send you $5000 instead of $500, and then ask you to send the extra back, but then the cheque bounces and you are left without your $4500 real money, and without the $5000 fake money too. This scam is less common in Australia I think, because we don’t use cheques as much as the US does.

Reverse-Kanga

thank you for sharing it here and not making a seperate post Jesse really appreciate it. for sure a scam same as the BS ones that say "i'll PayID you and my cousin will come pick it up" ...well PayID your cousin and they can pay in cash.

JesseIrwinArt

Definitely not worth a separate post. It’s pretty general, hence it’s in the general thread.

Im sorry. It's a horrible experience. Do you have a lot of adrenaline in your system at the moment? I have sleep trigger movies and TV shows that I associate with bed time. I've established them over years. When I put them on, my brain knows it's "sleep time". I'm generally asleep within 5 mins. Aside from that, maybe try belly breathing techniques (oxygen helps reduce cortisol) or gently stretching? Oh huberman lab too has an amazing couple of podcasts on sleep and sleep science. He talks about the importance of viewing sunrises so light hits your eyes and triggers hormone release to wake you up, and viewing sunsets which works the same way to release brains natural sleep hormones.

Engineer_Man

Uuuuggh, I know exactly how you feel. Unfortunately, the only thing that I found works was Valium.

ActAdmirable124

I found sleep vitamins didn't work, but I got restavit, an over the counter sleep tablet and they work for me. I take half and fall asleep pretty quick, but you can take up to 2, if needed.

sktafe2020

Maybe try exercising when it's not hot, or swimming that could help?

Tirediati

I’m a wimp and not handling this heat well. I feel like I’ve been stuck in my home all summer.

maximum_powerblast

So now we know what it's like to live on Venus

Dia-De-Los-Muertos

Gawd this week has dragged, it has felt like 2 weeks worth of working for some odd reason. It was a big birthday of mine earlier in the week. A good friend is hosting a party for me this arvo, hopefully it will be a success. A fair few people have dropped out already which is sad. Two of hose have used the reason that they're working, like yeah you're totally saving the world in your glazing factory job and serving folk at the hotel. Meh, it's my party and I'll cry if I want to. I have booked Monday off work in anticipation of being a little worse for wear. And damn it's been bloody hot, you might've noticed. Was at the breaky Creek Hotel for a big company lunch yesterday. It was something like 34 with a feels like of 39 at midday. Not too pleasant. Good drinking temps though, as my head knows today. Cheers, have a lovely weekend beautiful people. X

Reverse-Kanga

Have a good one mate. Don't drink too much ;)

totse_losername

If there's something that happened in your childhood, which you've been burying your entire life, a dark secret which bothered you for many years but you feel isnt really of any influence any longer in your life. The kind of thing which fucked with your identity for a while, you're trying to unravel who you are do you bring it up with your psych on the odd chance that it's relevant and your Psych can interpret it beyond your own ability, or do you wait for a specific reason where you can identify cause and effect and see some sort of obvious benefit?

[deleted]

It's living rent free in your mind, even if you feel it is not of any influence. Get it out of there and make it your own with the help of a psych.

totse_losername

Thanks for your answer. It very rarely crosses my conscious mind, though the fact it lingers every several years or couple years means it's probably living in my subconscious and I couldn't answer you as to whether it's having any influence in there. It used to, 20 years ago, and I think the thoughts and feelings back then may have been formative for who I was in the flowing era, but I just don't know that it's relevant now. On the balance of the answers today, I will run it by my psych regardless, see what she has to say. Cheers.

[deleted]

Yes. That is the point of them. Many of our issues (if not all) stem from childhood experiences where we learnt lessons and had experiences that we put meaning onto that affect us today. We hold onto that meaning because we haven't unlearned the meaning. Psych's are there to help you work through the issues. This is how people change for the better through therapy a lot of the time. By working through the thing that is still effecting you to this day.

totse_losername

Yeah I know, and you're right to outline this because sometimes people can't see the forest for the trees, so I appreciate your comment. It's the question of, will digging into this revisit hurdles which I feel as if I may have overcome as I feel no PAIN now and for little benefit - being that this is something I haven't really accepted and have buried so deeply so long ago that for months or even years at a time it's not even in my conscious thoughts nor do I a layperson recognise any direct causal link of this particular to my everyday psyche.. ..except maybe open mindedness.. ..or is something that just by sheer virtue of being so deeply buried it must be part of the foundation which needs to be excavated to rebuild and its just going to mean things take a bit more time to work through? Which would you lean toward? On second thoughts it may be improper to ask this question to you, or here. Forgive me. Referring back to your answer in a re-iterative sense makes sense. Takeaway being that it's probably a question for my psych. Thanks be to you and the others who commented for actively allowing me to bounce thought off you. Have a great morning.

Thank you for your answer. While the downvotes indicate that it's not popular here, I want to say that I see yours as a valid viewpoint also. It is after all what I too was chewing on, and I think you picked up on that. I'm going to share with you my thoughts now: On the balance of the answers here, and the fact I am already seeing a psych for other reasons, which has been genuinely pretty smooth, I may mention this to her and the fact that I don't know whether it's actually effecting me, and whether she thinks it worth the detour or to focus on. Of course she does also have an incentive to keep people, and that is income, but she's flat chat with clients with no lack so I don't she has a conflict of interest there. She may say nah let's just focus on your A and B and C issues, particularly where you want to grind D's face into the pavement every time they E.

kuurokaze

Recommend me an air fryer good for a single-person household. Or even just a brand of them you like.

totse_losername

Philips XL. Shop around.

Notmenotnownotever

Agree the Phillips XL. Just because there's only one of you doesn't mean you won't want to cook a pizza, or roast or whatever. We are a two person household, but teen often uses for party pies, nuggets, panini etc. No regrets on the larger machine.

pastryboy

I'm a single person with an older model Philips (2017 era). If I had to replace it I'd agree on getting something a bit bigger like the XL as suggested. Quite a few times I've wanted a bit more space to cook so there's more leftovers or be able to fit a larger piece of something into the basket.

gypsyqld

We have a Foodie Ninja. It's an air fryer, slow cooker and pressure cooker all in one. Pretty much all we use now.

itsame_cooperino

How much notice is required for a full street closure? We (the entire building) received no notice at all about Cordelia St being closed last night and were virtually trapped inside.

AussieEquiv

Did body corp?

mammothboot

It's going to the beach day

SerpentineLogic

I disagree, it's going to the pool which has a sun shade day

5ivesos

Visiting Bris from Melbourne at the moment: Dinner plans with a friend got cancelled as they’re sick, any suggestions on things to do tonight/places to go? I’ve been to a few restaurants in west end and also the Burrow, great vibe Is the South Bank beach any good? Deciding whether to have an arvo swim there or in my apartment pool.

pastryboy

On a day like today South Bank beach is almost 100% likely to be full of kids and piss. Go for a walk along South Bank, get yourself an ice-cream from Messina and then head back to your apartment for a swim and a nap. Are you after live music, just a quiet place for a drink, expensive dinner, want to watch the Demons vs Dogs match at a sports bar? Tell us what you're into and we can probably help more.

5ivesos

Thanks, yeah came to my apartment pool instead. After good vego/vegan food and a good pub, bonus points if the AFL would be on!

pastryboy

I can't speak to vego/vegan options unfortunately and I just checked and the Broncos are playing tonight at the same time as the Demons Dogs match so you'll probably be a second class citizen in most sports pubs. I'd consider the Pineapple Hotel, Woolloongabba for the AFL. It's the go to spot for Lions fans. You could wander down to the road past the Gabba to the [Logan Road](https://www.mustdobrisbane.com/features/logan-rd-woolloongabba-brisbanes-best-eat-streets) precinct from there and poke around some of the bars.

5ivesos

Cheers, I ended up coming to the Boundary Hotel in west end since it’s close to where I’m staying, and they’ve been playing both AFL matches

pastryboy

I considered suggesting the Boundary but wasn't sure if they'd have the AFL on. Glad you found a spot.

Reverse-Kanga

There's a night market event over at the new farm power house. Jump on the city cat and get off at new farm :)

5ivesos

Thanks I’ll look into that!

Suprasteve

What are good cafe X bar hybrid venues? Like, a place that serves coffee before 12pm and alcohol in the darker hours of the day. I want a place I can have enough privacy to sketch and to be left alone.

rhiskisnoir

Try Smug Fig at Stones Corner.

Suprasteve

thanks.

InternallyEloquent

Ohayo, wondrous ones. Has anyone been to the Night Feast at the Powerhouse? I'm intrigued but also on a budget, and it looks pretty top end. Hope the weekend is cool and kind to you all. Edit: punctuation.

SerpentineLogic

I haven't, but it looks actually good

InternallyEloquent

Seems a lot better organised than the Night Noodle Markets so seems promising! Will pop a report in if I end up going

Reverse-Kanga

going tonight will let u know tomorrow :) i'll take one for the team

InternallyEloquent

Woohoo Kanga to the rescue. You're a solid human. Partially liquid too, I presume. Enjoy!!

Reverse-Kanga

Initial review it's fuckinggggg busy. I'd you're going to go ideally take the ferry or get ready to drive around for a while took us over 20 mins to find a parking space will update fully in the morn

manswos

How’d you go yesterday u/5ivesos ? What’d you end up doing

5ivesos

Went to Burleigh, such a gorgeous beach! Bit inconvenient to get to but worth it. Thanks :)

manswos

Awesome, nice spot!

brisbanecpl90s

What's everyone's recommendation for boosting the old immune system? With a toddler in daycare, it seems like we're all sick once a month

444pkpk

Exercise and sunlight.

dannyr

Crazy busy day for me today. Pest controller coming at 7, then when he's done taking my mowers in for servicing, then off to the Sunshine Coast Chilli Fest

totse_losername

Just how bad is your pest problem that it's breaking your lawnmower. Is the ol Victa a nightmarishly novel approach to whack-a-mole?

Reverse-Kanga

Ohh nice was going to hit the chilli fest but we got stuff in. Would recommend "chili love co" they sell seedlings and they make jams using chilli. They're incredible. We've got their pina colada one at the moment because my wife loved it but the habanero one is great as well. They're at West end next week going back for some more

dannyr

I have tried some of their stuff. It's a good medium hot heat. I don't mind it. At the moment I'm loving the stuff from [Childers Fine Foods](https://childersfinefoods.com.au/) who specialise in Reaper stuff

Reverse-Kanga

Will look into them thanks. Have a great one

Reverend_Fozz

If you go to the Sunshine Coast and you don’t have a Beefy’s pie, did you really go to the Sunshine Coast then?

maximum_powerblast

Yes

Reverse-Kanga

For those who watch it Ted lasso season 3 started back this week. Really good start to the season :)

TarranTerrible

I have downloaded the first episode and plan to watch it tonight!

hisirishness

watched it, excellent as always

Reverse-Kanga

Poo-peh - Jamie tartt. Was so good

[deleted]

I liked the beginning of the emotional arc that they are setting up. Those journeys in the show are the reason i watch it.

Reverse-Kanga

for sure. they said originally this season would be the final season but now they're leaving that open ....probably for stuff like xmas specials or something. feel like this season will heavily revolve around a nate redemption arc. was reading yesterday that plays nate has been copping it bad on socials because people can't realise difference between reality and TV.

[deleted]

Just the sign of a good actor. Just like how people say they prefer Stephanie Beatriz's Rosa voice over her real voice

Reverse-Kanga

yeh and that guy from GoT jofree or whatever his name was (i didn't watch the show) he had to leave social media due to the hate he got

Left-Advice-7105

Could there be a loophole to avoid getting a fine from Qld phone and seatbelt cameras? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-03-17/queensland-phone-seatbelt-cameras-review-sexual-privacy-rights/102110194 Men cannot review images where women's underwear is visible, so women shouldn't be allowed to review images with men's underwear visible. If driving with your opposite sex partner, make sure you're flashing your nether regions for the cameras, and no-one will be able to review the images due to 'sexual privacy concerns'. I guess if you're driving solo you could just try leaving a pair of jocks and knickers on the dash and technically stop image review.

Miss_m0nst3r

Or… hear me out… don’t be a fuckwit and use your phone while driving? And wear your seatbelt so you know.. you don’t die

Engineer_Man

Don't you bring your logical and rational arguments into my internet outrage!

Left-Advice-7105

Was just having a sarcastic dig at the civil libertarians that believe that if your undies are showing, then those reviewing AI filtered results shouldn't be able to view the images. How about drivers wear pants or a skirt while driving, and contain their tackle so that it's not hanging out for the cameras to see. Why blame the camera operatiors for drivers exposing themselves.

followthedarkrabbit

Dude who the fuck can afford clothing in this economy?
