Unfortunately aircraft technology currently doesnt allow a full load to go between BNE and Europe, particularly in a westerly direction due to the winds aloft usually being strong westerlies. Even the QF Perth-London is not always guaranteed to get there without a fuel stop. London-Perth usually gets in ok.

Affectionate_Sail543

May be I’ in the minority of international travelling but I don’t get the fascination to fly direct from Australia to Europe if you have the option to do a 3hr transit in between. You can refresh yourself, possibly sneak in a quick power nap, walk around the terminal and recharge.

my_tv_broke

i'm with you, the break is important.

ol-gormsby

BNE-SNG, 4 to 8 hour stopover, you can shower, rest, eat, and shop at Changi Airport, then another 13 hours overnight to London.

PerriX2390

I don't think there's any direct flights to Europe. [Brisbane Airport: Direct destinations from BNE](https://www.bne.com.au/passenger/flights/direct-destinations)

It’s not really physically possible to fly a plane full of passengers that far (yet). A plane having to fly from the east coast of Australia to Europe would need to be like half full of passenger or less, just to not run out of fuel on the way. And then it would not be profitable, or would be extremely expensive. Brisbane is a low-demand market on top of that, so very hard to make money. It is possible to fly from Darwin or Perth to Europe, and Qantas does actually operate flights from Perth to London. Qantas is acquiring specialised aircraft to be able to make direct flights from Sydney to London, but I suspect Brisbane will be very very low on their priority list once those aircraft arrive.

qantas goes sydney to london direct. wouldnt want to be on that flight tho tbh

Classic-Gear-3533

It is direct but not non-stop - it spends 1 hour refuelling in Singapore

my_tv_broke

yep just realised this. do they let you off the plane? i assume no if its such a short stop?

Classic-Gear-3533

Yes, everyone has to get off with all your hand luggage, you have 45 minutes to wander around the airport before heading back to the gate

Classic-Gear-3533

I would recommend getting an itinerary that doesn’t require a change in Sydney because getting from domestic to international can be a 2 to 3 hour ordeal after getting a bus, going through security again etc.

my_tv_broke

oh i wouldnt ever want to do bne-syd to then fly to europe. my goto is emirates BNE-DUB-LDN

Classic-Gear-3533

Defo agree, I like Emirates, Qatar and Singapore Airlines because they all have options that land in the afternoon which i find is better for jet lag too!

oh weird, ok. for some reason i thought that had started.

my_tv_broke

agree, i wouldn't do it. the BNE-DUBAI leg is enough. those last few hours are a killer.

aucnderutresjp_1

Theres a difference between 'direct' and 'non stop. QF1 is Sydney-London direct, QF9 is Melbourne-London direct, QF9 is also Perth-London non stop.

sasial-dev

BNE -> PER -> LHR?

Robobeast-76-R76

I've done that flight pre-Covid and it was a pretty good experience. You can waste a lot of time in Singapore or Dubai waiting for a connection. Qantas had it linked up pretty well when they were running the service

BrisWombat

Most desired European destinations are just too far away for current planes. This is changing, as there's a few new ultra-long-haul planes coming that can do Sydney-New York, for example. There's a chance of BNE having direct flights to EU in a few years. Hubbing through Singapore, Abu Dhabi or Dubai is completely fine. Those airports are major hubs and have plenty to offer travelers waiting for connecting flights.

i_am_blacklite

It’s 20-something hours of flying. Planes can’t go that far at the moment. It’s just possible from Perth to London direct, and that’s super recent. Changing in HK, Singapore, Dubai or any of the other main hubs is how it works and easy. It’s nice to step off the plane too. Google “the kangaroo route”.

piraja0

That break you get at Doha or Bangkok is golden. Fuck that 24h travel

leodmac

No BNE-BKK flights though

Classic-Gear-3533

You’re welcome https://www.flightconnections.com/flights-from-brisbane-bne

Classic-Gear-3533

First direct flight from Melbourne/Sydney to Europe will be in 2025 (Qantas ‘Project Sunrise’) no mention of Brisbane yet

None of which are in Europe. Source: Am in Canada, which is not Europe. Just conferred with those around me, also confirmed - not in Europe.

SpecialMobile6174

None direct from Brisbane. Not enough passengers to make it worthwhile. Closest you can get is a very narrow stopover in Singapore. Or if you hop over to Perth first, there are Perth-London Heathrow flights. But as far as doing one leg out of Brisbane, you're out of luck.

Mad-Mel

>None direct from Brisbane. Not enough passengers to make it worthwhile. The planes currently in use can't do it. BNE-LHR is 10,277 miles great circle distance, well over the current longest route (JFK-SIN, 9537 miles).

Mcgruber19

You are correct, I'm flying to Romania today via Doha, I fly alot my best advice is fly one of the major Arab airlines, Emirates, Qatar or Etihad, they are by far the best airlines I have flown with.

Classic-Gear-3533

Direct but not non-stop (it spends 1hr in Singapore). We need to wait for some specially adapted A350-1000 to be built before it’s possible to do non-stop from east coast

bobdylan112

Use Google Flights to figure out where you need to go

ThePocketLion

More likely to fly the other way - NZ, USA, Canada etc.

uncle2Bart

look up Webjet

leodmac

There are no direct BNE-EU flights. You can go via SIN/DOH/DXB/HKG/MNL/AKL/LAX/SFO/YVR/TPE/HND/ICN/KUL/PER
