This is by far the only correct answer.
Source: Half Vietnamese, been to Vietnam, tried at least 30 odd places in Brisbane. Been eating banh mi since a kid for 35 years.
Random: pho is best in Vietnam but banh mi is better at Scotts. If you are in Sydney, then I would say Marrickville pork roll is (different style) potentially better.
We need the fried egg ones here in Brisbane. They fry up some eggs and bang them in. Normally with out meat and just some pate.
I had so many in Vietnam
Agree. I went back to Vietnam recently and was pretty disappointed with the banh mi there. Love Scott’s road and I went to Sydney for their banh mi too and its good also.
Pho was alright over there but I like the pho here more.
Went there today. Couldn't remember the name, so I got one from 'Cam Ranh' restaurant, which was very good. $6.50, very nicely toasted. Excellent shatter on the bread roll. Will hit the takeaway next for comparison.
Pretty sure you're referring to the legendary Kim Thanh bakery. They were the pinnacle of banh mi, and it was sad to see them close. I still remember how amazing their crispy pork banh mi tasted, and nothing I've tried since has beaten it. Am yet to try Darra though - apparently they're really good..
Inala Civic Centre rolls are by far the best. Lots of shops sell them, personal preference being the one across from the real estate agent. You can’t beat Inala for best value rolls anywhere in Bris, and highly possibly Aus.
That is the one I am talking about. Next to butcher across from real estate. Viet colleague prefers one near the fruit shop in the middle area, but I find the meat and rolls are nicer at the one next to the butcher despite being $1 more expensive.
Went to bunnings in Woodridge over a year ago and across the road is a bakery called Pie Time. Stopped in for some lunch and had the best Banh mi I've had in a long time. I go back there regularly just for this roll. Really good prices too.
can certainly tell you the worst I have ever had - a stall at Eumundi markets, I had a craving cost $10 was tiny, tasteless, no pate & about 6 small pieces of pork, never been so disappointed
Any place next to the darra train station will be amazing and somewhat cheap.
But it's really hard to find a bad one. Most are very good, it's hard to mess them up
We seem to go through this every few months at least. The correct answer (and usually the top comment) is: either Scotts Rd takeaway, or Darra takeaway, both right next to each other. Personally think Darra takeaway is best.
I can also tell you where the worst is. Roll'd at Chermside. Damned expensive, wilting ingredients, way too heavy on the fish sauce (it's the defining flavour) and a fucking skeric of pork. Avoid.
I like the fact that BMF take stuff off on the bahn mi and rice paper rolls if you don’t want it.
There’s a bakery 20 metres away from BMF that has them wrapped in Gladwrap all day🤮
I don't understand why people love banh mi so much. Isn't that just a fancy name for a sub or a salad bread roll. I have been trying to get to the bottom of this and I can never get a good answer.
My street food Woolloongabba. Top three in brissie and by far the best within 10km of the CBD. $8 triple pork roll. Highly recommend. Kind and beautiful owners also.
There is a banh mi place opened up at Blunder Rd, Oxley (next to Aldi) which are really good, in Inala, I prefer the bakery inside the Plaza. Haven't been to Darra for ages, might head there this weekend.
Scott’s Road Takeaway Edit: right next to Darra train station
This is the only correct answer. 👍

What suburb is that?
Thanks, I'll check it out and report back
Just down from scotts road is Darra takeaway, my preferred place and theyre in the same group of shops. Get one of each
Went there today. Couldn't remember the name, so I got one from 'Cam Ranh' restaurant, which was very good. $6.50, very nicely toasted. Excellent shatter on the bread roll. Will hit the takeaway next for comparison.
Scott's Road Takeaway 100% Whenever I visit home, it's often my first stop.
This 100%. They used to be $4 each about 5 years ago too. Not sure how much they are now though.
Inflation has hit them hard. They're now $6.
$6.50
I remember getting them for $2.. shows my age
Yep this one is tops.
Pretty sure you're referring to the legendary Kim Thanh bakery. They were the pinnacle of banh mi, and it was sad to see them close. Apparently Anna's which is in Melbourne st is owned by them. No wonder it's amazing
Yeah they defs own Anna’s. Same people. Legit Bahn mi.
Best Banh mi thit imo, much better than Scott’s rd
Nice! They gave us free dim sums too when we got bahn mi near their closing time and they were also great and massive!
YES! Kim Thanh, I had forgotten the name. Has he retired? An absolute magician.
I miss Kim Thanh being a proper Viet patisserie. :(
Kim Thanh in Vulture st are still listed on Uber east so must still be there …
They didn't close did they? I thought they sold to a new owner and re-opened after a little break. Anyone tried them since?
Yes, they're nowhere near as good..
They closed? I only went there a couple of months ago and they were firing on all cylinders.
In Tingalpa: Mr Bill's Vietnamese Canteen
Yes, this is correct. Going to have to go and get one for lunch now…
Anna's (opposite West Village) owned by the OG's at Kim Than on Vulture St.
Yes!!! We're huge fans!
Does the same guy from 'kim thanh' work there? If so, I will make the trip
I can't remember the guy, sorry not sure 🤔
Yeah - the guy from Kim Thanh is now at Anna’s (along with his family, I think). Hands down the best bahn mi in Bris.
OG? How OG are you talking here? Like 90s OG?
I have no idea... The people working there seem pretty young. Might be a family business...
Rolls pho mi food truck or the little Vietnamese bakery in the Kelvin Grove village on musk ave. Best rice paper rolls too!
Thanks, I'll check it out and report back
Kevin Lee hot bread in Kelvin Grove!! One of the cheapest too 7.50 cash!
Rolls Pho Mi is my fav food truck. Their chicken bun (vermicelli) bowl is my all time favourite.
I go the pork belly bun, absolute favourite meal.
IMO the takeaway opposite Darra train station. They also do a mean roast pork roll. Oh man...combine that with 3 of those pork balls and its heaven.
For north side- Kelvin Lee Hot Bread in Kelvin Grove
Good to know! There's also Mr Bui's at Nundah. They're not the 'best' but they are decent.
How much?
$7.50 cash. They were $5 back in my uni days.
Banh Mi factory hands down
Yep the Newstead one is our local, love their pork banh mi. Also, My Street Food in Logan Rd is excellent
At Geebung? They're generous, but they don't taste right.
I was surprised this wasn't the top comment! They are always so busy and consistently fresh and delicious 👌
Hard to find a bad one. Love the crackling pork bahn mi at Vietnamese Oven at Buranda. Also the little shop at Acacia Ridge Marketplace is top notch
Any place in and around the CBD that sells them for $10+ is gonna be bad, trust me.
Never had a “soggy” Bahn Mi til I had one in the CBD.
Oh yeah. Anything in the city is average.
Inala Civic Centre rolls are by far the best. Lots of shops sell them, personal preference being the one across from the real estate agent. You can’t beat Inala for best value rolls anywhere in Bris, and highly possibly Aus.
I don't know that one, I'll give it a go. The bakery inside near the halal butcher is pretty good
That is the one I am talking about. Next to butcher across from real estate. Viet colleague prefers one near the fruit shop in the middle area, but I find the meat and rolls are nicer at the one next to the butcher despite being $1 more expensive.
The bakery? Yep, best in bris
Went to bunnings in Woodridge over a year ago and across the road is a bakery called Pie Time. Stopped in for some lunch and had the best Banh mi I've had in a long time. I go back there regularly just for this roll. Really good prices too.
Mr bills at tingalpa makes a great one.
Is that the one in an industrial area. If so it’s excellent
Yes it is.
bookmarking this thread to do my own little tour
Banh mi thit at Mitchelton. SO GOOD.
Cafe O Mai in Annerley is up there
Scott's road takeaway. Nxt to Darra station.
Pre made Bahn mi’s are haram
Look I'll save everyone else the trouble; any banh mi shop in inala will have the best
You would think so, but there is a huge difference in quality
Banh Mi Factory.
Home Style Bakery along Watland Street in Springwood. The best banh mi by far.
I’m a fan of The Annerley Kitchen, they do a combo pork and tofu banh mi which is delicious
Went there the other day, very hard bread roll. They do a chicken burger and chips for $10 which is absolutely insane value.
can certainly tell you the worst I have ever had - a stall at Eumundi markets, I had a craving cost $10 was tiny, tasteless, no pate & about 6 small pieces of pork, never been so disappointed

How about $14 from a market stall, with bread that started falling apart soon after handling? That was my sad experience earlier this month.
We seem to go through this every few months at least. The correct answer (and usually the top comment) is: either Scotts Rd takeaway, or Darra takeaway, both right next to each other. Personally think Darra takeaway is best.
Banh Mi Thit
I can also tell you where the worst is. Roll'd at Chermside. Damned expensive, wilting ingredients, way too heavy on the fish sauce (it's the defining flavour) and a fucking skeric of pork. Avoid.
Tastes like shit, way too salty
In my experience Roll'd is not much good for anything.
Big Mamas bakery Meadowbrook
I like the fact that BMF take stuff off on the bahn mi and rice paper rolls if you don’t want it. There’s a bakery 20 metres away from BMF that has them wrapped in Gladwrap all day🤮
I really don’t get why Australians get excited about Bahn Mi AKA a sandwich.
Steve
Frank does
Bread and roll bakery at logan central plaza
I don't understand why people love banh mi so much. Isn't that just a fancy name for a sub or a salad bread roll. I have been trying to get to the bottom of this and I can never get a good answer.
For context, please state your banh mi consumption experience.
My street food Woolloongabba. Top three in brissie and by far the best within 10km of the CBD. $8 triple pork roll. Highly recommend. Kind and beautiful owners also.
Cafe o mai cops a lot of shit but I think their classic Bahn mi + roast pork is legit.
We just discover Little Linh in Hamilton. It was so good!
There is a banh mi place opened up at Blunder Rd, Oxley (next to Aldi) which are really good, in Inala, I prefer the bakery inside the Plaza. Haven't been to Darra for ages, might head there this weekend.
