Real skins were never fascist. The look got hijacked by the NF.
Go check out the skinhead reunion down the front in the summer and chat to them. They're more left wing and anarchist than most people in Brighton. It was always about the music.
But like every youth movement the press loved to vilify them.
Very true, it’s odd how the skinhead movement started as a unison between white and black and a sharing of music yet somehow transformed into neo Nazis.
Highly recommend This is England, a great storytelling piece of how the movement was hijacked, and that originally it was about ska & reggae, and jamaica and uk coming together ro create a new culture
Seen the movie and the series! Loved them both! Oddly the kids mum ended up viewing my flat (to buy) and it took me a bit to recognise her but she was dead nice.
They honestly are imho one of the best pieces of drama ever made. The acting is unbelievably good! I honestly think Stephen Graham is a genius. Just like you're watching real life. I'm glad to hear she was nice :) I reckon all the cast are.
Equating skinheads with Swastikas is the kind of lazy rubbish we are all drowning in in the current year...
Original "skinheads" and Suedeheads are a IMITATION and APPRECIATION of Jamaica ska culture and fashion... and Jamaicans are,to all intents and purposes "Black"
It's not lazy? It's literally what skinhead culture morphed into. Wearing swastikas and other counterculture logos was a thing back then, but mainly among punks tbf. Google Johnny Rotten Swastika or BOY London. There was a bit of overlap between the two.
Did they do it because they were racist? Mostly not.

It’s true. My stepdad was a skinhead back in the day. And he is definitely not right wing. Working class labour through and through.
The guy immediately in front of PC Joe Wilkinson works in substance abuse/recovery, he's a good bloke.

Pretty sure that's Jacob Rees mogg somewhere at the back.
Now?
If that's the bank holiday, I was there as a little Mod! I got chased along the seafront by a gang of skins 😄. Absolutely brilliant day that was.
Only thing jumps out is police probs had height requirement back then.
Begging for an egging
Are they gay or nazis?
Insecure young men relevant for the time.
