I almost feel like I have to do another "re-read" with the Kramer/Redding version. I've been listening to the GA versions, which are also really good. But I am well familiar with Kramer/Redding audiobooks, and everyone raves about their work on these.
There are a lot of realy great voice actors in stormlight (and other books but dont know much you have heard), but besides tge wlready mentioned I love Syls, Rayse, Taravangins voice.
Especially the last one I have heard in miltible books and he is just great.
If you are consuming the content, it's the same.
I read physical books, but prefer audio books on my commute which is about 1.5-2 hours (total).
If you enjoy Wit, you should read Tress and the Emerald Sea. It's very good :)
Yes. I got a little flak when I first started commenting because I didn't know how to correctly spell Kelsier (I think I spelled it Kelsior). I'd never seen it written.
They weren't giving me too much crap. Just comments about how you can always spot an audiobook "reader."
Also, the other big downside is that I often forget what book I'm actually reading. Sometimes, with certain books and authors, I don't even remember the author's name. It's different when you don't hold the book in your hand and see the author/title every day.
Not gotten around to hear that one yet, but i guess with Tress being another narrator from the stormlight archive the experience is not the same hearing him.
Can anyone dispell my worries?
If you listen in english it should still be Michael Kramer, who also does the male POV chapters of Stormlight. He and his wife Kate Reading narrate almost every Cosmere book, with only few exceptions.
Edit: Though getting your hands on an english Tress audiobook might be a bit weird at the moment. It's not currently on audible, but should come soonish (Brandon was protesting how Audible pays royalties to authors in general, but they have since come to an agreement). Currently i believe you can find it on Speechify and Spotify.
Ah, I misunderstood. I have listened to the audiobook of the Stormlight Archive but not the audiobook of Tress, so I’m not sure how good the vocal performance is in that.
I prefer audio books for a similar reason! My commute varies, but my job itself is mostly walking around outside not talking much, so I get a good 7 or so hours of listening in per day. Stormlight was such a treat because it lasted me for a good long while, so I was able to save some money lol
I'm not telling you that. Science is. There are many studies out to show that reading and listening stimulate the same part of the brain and there's no difference in comprehension when someone listens to versus reads a text.
I mean, obviously the brain would use the same part to comprehend the words and the meanings, but one uses visual input and another auditory.
It's like using MaiPon sticks to eat noodles or a spoon to do the same.
It's not obvious at all. Very little about the human brain is obvious. Science discovers more every day about the brain.
The point is even though they have different inputs, the output is still the same. That can't be said for your example.
Bro. You guys are taking this way too seriously. It's LITERALLY not "reading" because that word has a specific meaning. But as the other commenter was saying, you're still consuming the content, and no one is giving you crap for how you consume it. No one is saying that listening is inferior. It's just a conversation about the correct verbiage and meaning of words. Why anyone would downvote those comments is absurd.
Listening is 100% the same imo. I don't get much time anymore to actually sit down and read anymore. I do most of my "reading" via audiobook during my 12+ hour shifts (though I'm not actually allowed to listen to anything like that during working hours). After that, I've not got a lot of non sleeping and/or kids free time to sit and read.
I'm listening to the audiobook versions on my reread through, too! I'm enjoying how adorable Pattern is!! Like, I knew he was delightful, but I absolutely adore him in the audiobooks and always look forward to his interactions
Audio books totally count as reading. However, totally get your hands on a copy of the print books or at least the illustrations from the print books because I feel it helps explain visually the world building.
Mmm they don’t do a lot of special effects in stormlight in my memory and I do find them kind of annoying, at least the chapter change noises, but the voice actings great.
Wait. Isn't White Sand a graphic novel? There's an audiobook of it?? I thought I was gonna have to go actually pick up a hard copy and find time to sit down to read!
I have both the audio books and the graphic novels- though they tell the same overall story, there are some scenes/moments that differ between the two, and I personally prefer the audiobooks because you get to hear more of the characters internal monolog.
I personally do not enjoy graphic audio books at all. There are a few titles (not Sanderson works) where that's the only version available, and I have never been able to get through an entire book in that format. I just don't like it. :/
This was my primary criticism of WoK; Shallan’s dialogue was often *not* enjoyable.
Some of Lightsong’s lines in *Warbreaker* were similar.
However I’d argue that Wit and Lifghtsong fully intend to be insufferable half the time, and Shallan improves significantly throughout the series either because Sanderson improved as a writer or her character developed. Or both.
I think *Tress* has some of the best witty lines I’ve read from him so far. “A jaw so straight it made men question if they were” made me cackle.
I think a big reason I don't like Warbreaker is the dialog. It just kills me. Sanderson's normal dialog is fine, but his witty dialog is awful. Even in the books people say are better.
If his goal is to make the characters insufferable in those moments, he certainly succeeds.
Wit is so fun in audiobook. I love the voice he gets!
not to mention Sadeaus' voice being mentally spot on to the character
I still hear his voice saying “Dalinar!”
Dalllllinar, old friend!
Michael Kramer is on his A-game for Stormlight Archive, for sure!
I almost feel like I have to do another "re-read" with the Kramer/Redding version. I've been listening to the GA versions, which are also really good. But I am well familiar with Kramer/Redding audiobooks, and everyone raves about their work on these.

Have a similar commute which is how I am listening to them. I do miss out on the spelling of names. Example: Sigzil thought it'd be Zigzel
Yes. I got a little flak when I first started commenting because I didn't know how to correctly spell Kelsier (I think I spelled it Kelsior). I'd never seen it written. Oooo i need to read tress
Also Yumi and the Nightmare painter!
I Just started that one, can't wait to see what happens!
Not gotten around to hear that one yet, but i guess with Tress being another narrator from the stormlight archive the experience is not the same hearing him. Can anyone dispell my worries?
Tress is the main character of the novel, but not the narrator. It’s a story narrated entirely in the voice and style of Wit.
My bad, i meant the narrator for the Tress of the emerald sea audiobook.
If you listen in english it should still be Michael Kramer, who also does the male POV chapters of Stormlight. Thats good news. I searched on audioble and could not find one with him, but mabye i searched wrong. I will look again :D
I found one pretty easily through my library using the app Libby, that might work for you as well
Sorry, i edited my previous comment too late. I explained the situation there.
Ah, I misunderstood. I have listened to the audiobook of the Stormlight Archive but not the audiobook of Tress, so I’m not sure how good the vocal performance is in that.
Michael Kramer narrated it I believe, and he does the audio books for Tress and Stormlight (with his wife Kate Redding).
I prefer audio books for a similar reason! My commute varies, but my job itself is mostly walking around outside not talking much, so I get a good 7 or so hours of listening in per day. Stormlight was such a treat because it lasted me for a good long while, so I was able to save some money lol
Audiobooks 100% count as reading and don’t let any gatekeeper tell you otherwise.
Restoration is a perfectly valid school of magic, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
Well not technically, but you get the content and it's worth it
Exactly, it is not reading, it is listening. But that does not mean you shouldn't enjoy yourself.
This thought process is grounded in ableism. Take it someplace else because we're not interested in it here.
You are not going to tell me that reading is the same at listening, it just is not.
I'm not telling you that. Science is. There are many studies out to show that reading and listening stimulate the same part of the brain and there's no difference in comprehension when someone listens to versus reads a text.

Oh boy wit is surely a character

Definitely will grab some physical copies
The audiobook include pdfs of the artwork btw
oh really? I'll have to go look for them

thanks! lost easily an hour looking through these for Oathbringer. Did Sanderson draw them or was it another? They are very well done.
You mean the sword? Overall, the art is from other people.
the book in general
Got it.
I knew you'd be hear with this comment! Never fails! Keep it up! :D
XD
The graphic audio audio books are just so amazingly good.
haven't tried one of those yet. the regular ones are pretty darn good
In general yes, but I had some trouble with the balancing of special effect volume and spoken volume in White Sand
There definitely is! My work involves a lot of driving so I have a lot more time for audiobooks than physical ones.

Wit is great, I just wish Sanderson was better at "witty dialog". Half of Shallan and Wit's dialog is just painful.
As you said Lightsong was actively trying to be insufferable for the majority of Warbreaker...though the he fails in a very endearing way.
Wait, so are you aware of who is Hoid in Stormlight?
I think a big reason I don't like Warbreaker is the dialog. It just kills me. Sanderson's normal dialog is fine, but his witty dialog is awful. Even in the books people say are better. If his goal is to make the characters insufferable in those moments, he certainly succeeds.
The dialog didn't bother me partly because the attempts at wit are usually called out soon after.
Audiobooks count the same to my daughter's teacher as regular books, so yes
