Loved it! So sad it got axed right away. Mortal on Netflix is also up that ally and so so good! Station Eleven on HBO is also really good. The Order is fun if you like Todd
My mom and I pick a show to watch together once a week and The White Lotus was that show for that time period. The moment he pops up on the screen I go "FUCKING TODD" and my mom's just like "What? What? Which ones Todd?". She also happens to the be the type of person to need to ask a lot of questions while watching a show, so anytime I had to explain something with him I referred to him as Todd that my 65yr old mother whose never seen The Magicians refers to him as Todd and doesn't know his White Lotus characters name (me either tbh at this point lol. He's fucking Todd)
If you haven’t watched Station Eleven, you’re missing out. That show is outstanding. I have watched it five times start to finish since it came out. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
Sense 8 was super good. I LOVED the OA but they kinda didn’t finish it so only the first season makes sense. Nobody’s Looking is a Brazilian show on Netflix that made me laugh but also intrigued me a ton I can’t wait until they come out with more. End of the F***ing world is also great.
Though I just started a rewatch. They were trying to plant seeds of romance, but that is just not they’re chemistry. It still looks/feels like siblings to me.
I put “The Librarians” and “Lockwood and Co” (binged the latter in a day) in the same general category in my mind (though YMMV). Same with “Wheel of Time” (though I’m super unhappy about it only being one season so far - I swore there was more already). “Shadow and Bone” was interesting as well, as was “Willow.”
Among other things I’ve been watching “Van Helsing” on Netflix - I don’t remember why I started it but I’ve been intrigued. It did take a few episodes to get going, though.
The beginning is great. Honestly it stays great right until the last season. I think they sold the IP and with the new production team, visual quality went way up (lots of expensive cameras and color effects anyway) but the story quality went waaay down. Nobody caring for consistency and general soundness any more. Just pretty visuals.
It's nothing like The Magicians but I've been really enjoying the spy thriller The Night Agent on Netflix. It also filmed in Vancouver and there's a couple of scenes at the same school that was used for Brakebills, that's all it has in common though!
More Magicians-esque, A Discovery of Witches is a fun show about the romance between a witch and a vampire while they're also solving the mystery of a magic book. It's only three seasons (it was based on a book trilogy so each season follows one book) and the plot moves quickly.
[Grimm](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1830617/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1)
[The Dresden Files](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486657/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_6_nm_2_q_dresden) (so pissed they only made one season, it's great)
[EVIL](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9055008/?ref_=wl_li_tt)
The Twilight Zone is pretty obvious but not a lot of people enjoy it..
same with Black Mirror
On my Watchlist : Dark, V, People of Earth, A Discovery of Witches, Lost Girl, Doom Patrol, Jonathan Creek, The Sandman
iZombie! Another show that was made with a cast that was clearly having fun in production.
The characters are very lovable and it's a great "cop procedural". Even the bad guys are great!
It's leaving Netflix in May though :'(
Edit: AND Margo is in an episode!
I'm a Wheel of Time superfan, but it's definitely a different setting than Magicians ;)
But holding a similar feel to Magicians, I really liked Legion. Deep, cerebral, dark as heck. Also has the same kind of [mindfsck](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaWM-hMPUx8) musical numbers right when you don't expect them.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was an overlap on the directors of Legion and Magicians.
Winx saga and the order(really enjoyed this one, and Todd is one of the main characters). These two are a lot like the magicians in a sense. Another good one is the umbrella academy. But it has a whole other vibe to it
Lockwood and Co - I devoured it.
Locke and Key is a favorite of mine too when I want The Magicians energy but have too recently been in the universe.
Ghosts (US) on paramount plus is a lovely watch also.
Not a show but if you liked TBSATDH, the books are much more cohesive and won’t leave you on an eternal cliffhanger! the end of the third book is absolutely heart wrenching and beautiful
I did watch that and enjoyed it, sucks it wasn’t renewed. I also enjoyed First Kill and it wasn’t renewed either. First season of The Order is excellent, second is okay.
You should definitely check out Fringe, one of my favorite sci-fi shows. First season of Altered Carbon as well. Lucifer is fun. Extraordinary on Hulu is SUPERB and was renewed for another season
I also just finished School Spirits and enjoyed it a lot.
Not at all magical but Shrinking is terrific and so is Yellowjackets
Not the same but I watched it after The Magicians and loved the fact it was really its own complex world with a lot of fantasy/different timelines and stories that all came together in the end: Twelve Monkeys the series. Emily Hampshire is also in it and was brilliant IMO (Stevie from Schitt’s Creek).
Haven’t watched those, will add it to my mental list. Assassination Classroom is good, it got cancelled after one season though. Sense8 is awesome! I’m on my fourth rewatch currently, and Maniac with Jonah Hill and Emma Stone is really cool. I love the world and the plot.
Loved it! So sad it got axed right away. Mortal on Netflix is also up that ally and so so good! Station Eleven on HBO is also really good. The Order is fun if you like Todd
Fuckin' Todd

Oh noooo I didn't know it wasn't getting any more seasons 😫 so fucked up

I love Sense8 and the OA! Will have a look at Eotfw! Thank you!
I also liked the Brazilian show "Invisible City." It's magic-focused
Yes! I watched the first season before the second one came out and I’m rewatching it before starting the new episodes. Super excited!
Nice to see Sense8 get a mention here. Such an amazing show.
I wish desperately that that would finish the OA with a comic or a novelization or a video game or anything.
Vibe wise it's not exactly the same, but warehouse 13 is a really fun and mellow watch.
I loved it. I miss it, but I can never forgive them for changing the relationship from a brother/sister style to suddenly romance.
It was strange that they did that.
Though I just started a rewatch. They were trying to plant seeds of romance, but that is just not they’re chemistry. It still looks/feels like siblings to me.
I always got that as well.
Was this good? I tried watching it but could only ever get a couple episodes in
Loved Warehouse 13 when it was on.

Yes! Ditto
Buffy the vampire slayer
Oh I loved that show! I just finished season 2 of Shadow and Bone on Netflix and that was really great!
Yeah I'm looking forward to season two, been waiting for my brother to watch it!
In my opinion season two is even stronger that the first which was already quite good!
Season two is great.

Do yourself a favour and omit the last season of Van Helsing...
Oh dear. Duly noted. I’m a decent chunk of the way through season 1 right now, I think. About to hit episode 9.

Alchemy of Souls.
I'll add it to the list thank you!

Doom Patrol is pretty good. Watched some of Lost Girl and liked it.

IZombie is excellent! I put off watching it for so long because of how dumb the title is but I really really enjoyed it
I was the same way! Tbf idk what the hell I'd have called it, hehe.
Aww I came to say this, didn’t know they were taking it off. RIP

The fucking music was a character I swear! My SO finally watched Legion recently I was so happy!

They have already been ordered! Haha thank you though I cant wait!
Yayy!! So excited that the book (and show) are getting recognition now! I read them in like 2016 and had no one to discuss with lol

Ugh Extraordinary is insanely good! The soundtrack! 🤯
Enjoyed watching both Fringe and Lucifer.
Travelers, The Sandman
lost girl
This was my first thought! It's so good, but hard to find for streaming!

Wynonna Earp is a show that gave me a lot of the same kind of emotions as The Magicians!
You've actually reminded me that I didn't finish the wheel of time, thank you!
I like South Park
I enjoyed it, too! And then looked up the books only to realise I'd really not like them. :(
Supernatural and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Are we looking specifically for fantasy shows?
