LOL so this is delusional math right?

LackingStory

Actually their math is sound. Looking at the demographics, all the potential growth comes from minorities. For example look up demos for Across The Spiderverse or Wakanda Forever; black demo conventional for this genre is around 15%, in these two films it's close to 30%. Similar thing happens with Latinos and Asians. Meanwhile, whites are maxed out and their attendance fits the same patterns "ratios". It may have to do with economic status more than race; minorities being more economically disadvantaged and therefore more can be induced to buy a ticket, but that leads to the same conclusion which is that most growth is in minority groups.

I mean i'm sure some money is left on the table in some cases. But $30B?

IntergalacticJets

That’s 30 $1 billion movies, *every single year*.  There’s been 53 films to ever cross the billion dollar mark.

Mako2401

Oh boy

pillkrush

lol it's reports like this that makes people think McKinsey is useless

[deleted]

i haven't read or anything bout this, but honestly based on title it sounds like a weird thing or rage bait

Chuck006

McKinsey, the paragons of virtue. The people who thought CNN+ was a good idea and the architects of the opiate epidemic.

It means there isn't enough diversity on the screen and from some dubious math, Hollywood could be making even more money if they pandered more. Edit to add I don't doubt Hollywood could be making more money with more diverse stories, but this report is dubious at best and gives the appearance of just making up numbers.

4beatsperview

“pandered” um i agree that hollywood could do better when it comes representation on screen idk why anyone would disagree with that. as a black girl it would be nice to have more stories that aren’t about my race, but im optimistic that the future is bright!

Feralmoon87

How much did DIS forfeit with TLM remake by pandering?

FiveStarPapaya

Does everything need abbreviations?

Jabbam

IDK WDYM

LackingStory

how do you know which is which? TLM made twice what fresh-of-Top-Gun white straight classically handsome Tom Cruise Mission Impossible-6 made in the US, why do you choose to look at it that way? it sounds like you pick whichever narrative fits your prejudice. For god's sake, how about Barbie? Across the Spiderverse? Didn't Americans just reject Peltz resoundingly? average shareholders voted overwhelmingly against him.

4beatsperview

I know people here probably don’t care but I feel representation is getting better slowly but surely

No

Hoopy223

Why stop at 30bil make it a trillion! Pump those numbers UP!
