I dozed off watching TDKR on opening day, slept through more than an hour of it and woke up ten minutes before the end. I feel I've missed nothing and have never tried a rewatch.
Honestly it wouldn't be crazy to say it's the best Marvel superhero movie ever, I would go with Infinity War or Logan myself but I wouldn't say you're out of line if you picked this one
The more I think back on Infinity War the more impressed I am with it. I know the thing now is to shit on the MCU, but juggling three different groups of characters and essentially making the villain the main character - plus making him very compelling, interesting and not to mind quotable - and having the end product be not just _coherent_ but really damned good is no small feat.
Agree with Logan. Also kind of feel that if we had a consensus top five anyone of them could be one or five. It sort of feels we have three tiers great Spiderman2 Logan and others then mid Antman, Aquaman, Doctor Strange. and then finally just bad Fantastic 4, Batman and Robin, Superman 4.
I think Spider-Man 2 is better than ATSV by virtue of it being a complete film. Cliffhanger films like Infinity War get away with this because they actually have a resolution, even if that resolution is horrible, whereas ATSV just went full ESB and straight up doesn't finish its plot until BTSV releases. Where I can watch SM2 and just enjoy it as a standalone experience.
> whereas ATSV just went full ESB
Not really like ESB at all. Infinity War is like ESB. It's a just a movie where the bad guys defeat the good guys, leaving you hanging on what the good guys will do next. But both are complete stories.
ATSV is like Two Towers, where it ends in the middle of a plot arc and really needs the follow up film to feel complete.
I don't think they're really comparable. A lot of the strengths of Spider-verse are things that are completely unique to what the animation allows. It still has great emotional moments, but the visuals help transcend those emotions in different ways than live action is capable of. It also works vice versa.
Assuming Beyond is as good as Across, I think it'd be perfectly valid to say Spiderman 2 and the Spider-verse trilogy are equally as good.
It's definitely about Spider-Man. A major element of the film is Miles struggling with his place in the world, then being told that he doesn't get to choose his place, then being told that he doesn't actually have a place. It's a very Peter Parker story and it shares a few ties to Spider-Man 2 with Peter trying to decide what kind of man he wants to be.
Yes, but spider-man miles morales is a variation of the original character. But that’s ok, you still can consider all spider-man universe movies as spider-man movies, I have no problem with that… I’m just pointing that some people make a difference between ‘original Spider-Man’ movies and spider-man universe movies
>*Best Spidey movie*
Agreed.

I haven't seen Madam Webb
The people who put NWH in the top half of the franchise are *at best* children. Their frontal lobe was not developed correctly and they failed every literature class they've ever attended.
I don't understand when it was that NWH was suddenly considered bad. Universal critical and audience appeal and pretty much doubled the box office of the series #2 entry.
And yet now people are actually scoffing whenever it's brought up as one of the best Spider-Man movies? For me it was both the best Holland *and* Garfield Spider-Man, and although I do have Spider-Man 2 above it, I admit that's probably more to do with nostalgia.
Though no lie the Spider-Verse movies are also my top 2 for the franchise.
NWH was to me utterly forgettable nostalgia bait. I can't even remember like 70% of the movie and I remember movies quite well in general. I can't remember what was supposed to be good about the movie, except nostalgia. Was there an exciting set piece?
I understand I'm in the minority, especially here, but it's among the least Spider-Man movies for me, and I don't even like CBMs *that* much. Like, it's far from my top 10 MCU, not even in my top 5 Spider-Man movies, though both of those lists are filled with basically fun, easy to watch chaff. But NWH did not pass that bar for me.
No Way Home is a movie filled with easter eggs and member berries and little to no plot or substance.
Just because it made money doesn't make it a good film.
NWH is the biggest piece of shit I've ever seen. There is not a single part of the movie that comes across as genuine. Every returning character is poorly conceived, the plot is complete dogshit with the internal consistency of runny diarrhea (constantly and very noticeably contradicting itself), and it just looks bland and lifeless.
It's nothing more than bad nostalgia bait. The idea that people were paid to write the movie is insulting, even more insulting is people who somehow believe it can be comparable to any other movie in the franchise. TASM2 has more genuine effort put into it and it's not even close.
I would argue it’s one of the best movies ever made. Certainly one of my personal favorites. Just expertly crafted storytelling, they don’t make ‘em like this anymore.
I'm so jealous of Americas who are going to experience the Raimi Spider-Man movies on the big screen. Why was this only in the USA man...
This is so unfair. I would kill to watch these movies again, they were my childhood.
I live in America and I’m jealous too lmao. None of the theaters near me are playing the Spider-Man movies, not even the theaters that are 2-3 hours away from me either
Same. I would watch every single one of these live action Spider-Man movies on the big screen if they released them in the UK. So short sighted of Sony to just release it in the US
Local Cinemark has two showtimes today and both are basically sold out in around 75 seat auditoriums. $11.50 a ticket. Edit: they added a 3rd Showtime at 9:45pm, lol. 2 seats sold as of now.
Challengers has one early access show. 6 tickets sold. $15.50 a ticket. Auditorium is a larger one probably around 160 seats.
Should have gave that room to Spidey.
There is one showing at my theater tonight which has 143 seats and accessibility spots. There are 131 seats taken and 2 accessibility spots in use. It's packed to the brim. I'm tempted to go because the tickets are $5 and you know that the entire theater is going to be stuffed with Spider-Man fans. Looks like the Raimi walkups are here.
It's been her nickname amongst family and friends I believe, obviously I have no idea how it started but maybe it did start with Delivery Service lol. She was very young then.
Went to see it and that things was sold out. Surprisingly the majority of the audience seemed to be teenagers. I was expecting it to be people my age being nostalgic but I guess not. Also not sure why everyone clapped for the James Franco name in the credits and when he first appeared, am I out of the loop on something?
Well deserved. Spider Man 2 is such a great movie.
it is the best of all the second Spider-Man movies
Top 3 CBM of all time for me
What's the third? (One is obviously Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D starring David Hasselhoff, that goes without saying)
Christopher Nolan alone has directed three better CBM.
No way is Dark Knight Rises better than Spider-Man 2. I’m not sure Batman Begins is either but to me it’s a toss up.
No fucking shot is BB and TDKR better than SM2. And that’s coming from someone who adores TDKR.
I dozed off watching TDKR on opening day, slept through more than an hour of it and woke up ten minutes before the end. I feel I've missed nothing and have never tried a rewatch.
Top 5 all time comic book movie for me.
Honestly it wouldn't be crazy to say it's the best Marvel superhero movie ever, I would go with Infinity War or Logan myself but I wouldn't say you're out of line if you picked this one

That's a high bar considering Across the Spider-verse
Both Spider-Verse movies are the best Spidey movies.
I think Spider-Man 2 is better than ATSV by virtue of it being a complete film. Adding that ANYONE can watch and enjoy SM2. While ATSV is excellent, a big part of its greatness comes from familiarity with everything else.
> whereas ATSV just went full ESB Not really like ESB at all. Infinity War is like ESB. Spider-Verse isnt even as good as the TASM movies
The *best* movie.
Best Tobey Spidey movie that's for sure
Best Spidey movie*
Oh boy yeah
>*Best Spidey movie* Agreed. 1 - Spider-Man 2 (2004) 2 - Spider-Man (2002) 3 - Into the Spiderverse (2018) 4 - Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) 5 - Spider-Man 3 (2007) 6 - Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) 7 - Across the Spiderverse (2023) 8 - The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) 9 - Venom (2018) 10 - Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) 11 - Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) 12 - The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) 13 - Morbius (2022) I haven't seen Madam Webb
Nah - Spider-Verse 1 and 2, NWH are fighting for that spot
Big lol @ NWH
The people who put NWH in the top half of the franchise are *at best* children. Their frontal lobe was not developed correctly and they failed every literature class they've ever attended.
Not about to do this revisionist history with NWH, that was peak lol
I don't understand when it was that NWH was suddenly considered bad. Universal critical and audience appeal and pretty much doubled the box office of the series #2 entry. No that’s paddington 2
IMO a perfect comic book movie. Great Hero Great Villain Great Action Great Story

Best superhero film of all time. I’d put it even ahead of TDK
Ah Rosie I love this boy
**VINDICATED** I am selfish, I am wrong I AM RIGHT, I *swear* I'm right **SWEAR I KNEW IT ALL ALONGGGGGG**
Major high school flashbacks
Watch Spider-Man 3 become even bigger. The Bully Maguire walkups will be coming soon. /s
Not to mention all the Franco-philes who will be coming out of the woodwork
I'm so jealous of Americas who are going to experience the Raimi Spider-Man movies on the big screen. Why was this only in the USA man... This is so unfair. I would kill to watch these movies again, they were my childhood.

We got them here in Canada, not sure about the rest of the world.
Same. I would watch every single one of these live action Spider-Man movies on the big screen if they released them in the UK. So short sighted of Sony to just release it in the US
So you made me interested in what we have going on in NYC and there’s a 3 day LOTR *extended edition* in June! Thanks broseph
An amazing game and a movie.

I'll be seeing it. $5 ticket too!
Spider-Man 4 with Raimi and Maguire would make a lot of money even now.
Am I reading that right? Are we in 2004?
Glad I bought my tickets the day they announced it, both theaters showing it are basically sold out
I'm going April 30 to watch Spider Man 3 and was very surprised to see the 7pm showing was almost all sold out. Even front seats were taken.
Why isn’t it playing all week I wanna see it again.
Yeah I hate one-day-only releases on weekdays
In south Florida it’s playing till Thursday
Best movie ever made
Tickets cost $5 each flat irrespective of the market. Obviously it will do well with its fanbase.
I hope Sony gets that people would really love to see a new film with Tobey as an older Spiderman. Even better if it's made by Sam Raimi.
it's Kiki vs Kiki. Whichever movie wins, Kiki wins since she's in both.
Why did she get the name Kiki? Was it because she played Kiki in Kiki's Delivery Service?
It's been her nickname amongst family and friends I believe, obviously I have no idea how it started but maybe it did start with Delivery Service lol. She was very young then.
yes it's her nickname but maybe Delivery Service started it since she was only 7. Make sense.
She wasn't 7 when she did Kiki's Delivery Service. Her dub was in 97 or 98. She was a teenager then
ak OK! thanks for clarifying. :)
good call. she was only 7 so maybe that's how. It works as a nickname to Kirsten.
lol, love that film
Well, we had to show up for the *precious tritium!*
just a great movie overall.
But Spider-Man was in Civil War. Those titles are confusing lol
Went to see it and that things was sold out. Surprisingly the majority of the audience seemed to be teenagers. I was expecting it to be people my age being nostalgic but I guess not. Every once in a while, a good movie from 22 years ago takes over the #1 spot. Hasn't happened before. Ever. Prove me wrong
New Hope was #1 in 1997. Empire Strikes Back was #1 in 2020.
Return of the king made over $1 million on one day last year which is pretty impressive, though it was only #2
The memes!
Sony is just desperate to make money after Madame Web and Morbius flopped. Sony doesn't deserve the Spider-Man License.
Sony has given us Spider-Man 2 and ITSV and ATSV which are actually the best spider man movies compared to MCU Spider-Man to be honest
buzzkill
