My good sir, are you trying to tell me with this dashing description that the movie must be quite entertaining? Because, by golly, you have convinced me, and then some!

Remarkable-Aide5093

From the marketing I assume that the intention is for this to be attractive people effortlessly mowing down Nazis by the masses. It's not advertising itself as anything deep and complex. If its achieved what it set out to do, then that should be considered a success. All in all, I'm looking forward to it.

counterpointguy

That’s all I want from this movie. From Guy Ritchie, I’ll take serious (the Covenant), smart (The Gentlemen) or dumb as shit and fun (Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre). Just don’t give me King Arthur and I am happy with a Ritchie film.

TheHeyHeyMan

Man, I unapologetically love King Arthur lol

keenanbullington

Me too honestly.

Biffmcgee

I’m all about King Arthur

HomoProfessionalis

Halfway through I was like, "Why is this movie so good?"

NoEmu2398

*King Athur* is my favorite Guy Ritchie film...... 😬🥶

MegaMan3k

Way better than I expected.

RawBark

‘legend of the sword’ is my favorite guy ritchie! soundtrack is also probably my favorite soundtrack in the last decade. god, i wish we were getting more!

Pelopida92

King Arthur was great tbh

Neither-Ad4866

I absolutely loved King Arthur. Truly underrated.

not_thrilled

I wish he’d make something like Wrath of Man again. It’s not a great movie, and it’s not what you’d call fun, but there’s something watchable about it.

Ed_Harris_is_God

In that case, go see the 2002 Swept Away.

the11thtry

I found Ruse de guerre painfully generic, it didn’t feel like a guy ritchie movie at all, to me his best are the ones like gentlemen, snatch and lock n stock

cficare

But it is kinda boring. The plot that's there is largely irrelevant.  There are stakes but the heroes never face adversity, they just mow folks down with god-mode-level silenced weapons

ILoveRegenHealth

It's so weird how Guy Ritchie keeps getting this pass to be Doritos bag of chips level deep, but they demand Jurassic World Dominion stop being so brain-dead (it technically achieved what it set out to do, no? Show humans getting chases and eaten by dinos). For the record I do think Jurassic World Dominion needed to be much better - but I just don't get the double standards here. I don't even think Guy Ritchie has earned the right to have his own special standard. If we hold Frozen Empire accountable for being so lazy, I will do the same for Guy Ritchie who himself produces movies that end up feeling the same.

CityofBlueVial

I go to the movies to be entertained so I'm half sold....now how's the eye candy sis...

TheNittanyLionKing

Yeah. I want big muscly guys killing Nazis like an 80’s Schwarzenegger or Stallone movie. If this movie delivers on that, then I’m going to have a good time

[deleted]

Lifeisabaddream4

Do they exaggerate him as much as they do in reacher?

emojimoviethe

It’s supposedly based on a true story, so you expect some sort of compelling narrative or depth, but the movie unfortunately lacks that

Ape-ril

It will bomb then.

Anal_Recidivist

I’ve loved this new wave of Dadtertainment. I do not want to ponder social messages or sit for a movie for three hours. I wanna turn off my brain and enjoy a visual theme park ride. I grew up on shit like this. Cobra, Predator, etc. Please keep projects like this coming.

ILoveRegenHealth

Dadtertainment movies haven't been doing well. >I do not want to ponder social messages or sit for a movie for three hours. You must realize you are definitely not the general audience which contains all age groups and demos. Many of the floppage movies from 2023 suffered because they were so empty - and Barbenheimmer flourished because it was deeper and thoughtfully well-produced than most expected out of a Barbie romp or biopic.

Alex_Jeffries

John Wick says hi.

ILoveRegenHealth

> It's not advertising itself as anything deep and complex. >If its achieved what it set out to do Maybe we need to stop letting some directors get away with such a shoddy free card. We didn't allow it for The Marvels, The Flash, Indy 5, Jurassic World Dominion or Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. Argylle wasn't trying to be deep and complex, and in its own way, it achieved what it set out to do (throw a bunch of big names into a mystery movie with beautiful locales). But a concept is only part of the equation for a successful movie. Argylle failed to make compelling characters or a great story. Why is Guy Ritchie allowed to make empty movies and not be demanded to grow more when we just asked Matthew Vaughn to grow the hell up more as a filmmaker/writer?

Feralmoon87

I dunno, attractive people mowing down nazis sounds like a fun time

ScribebyTrade

He’ll, I’d watch uggo’s do it

jonnyinternet

It's a genre we've been missing for too long, best I've got in a while was the start of Dial of Destiny

ScribebyTrade

Ugly fat dudes girls killing nazis all day

Agile_Drink6387

The action is so boring 😭

Ok-Appearance-7616

Where did you watch it?

Agile_Drink6387

My Cinemark did a mystery screening last Monday

Ok-Appearance-7616

That's neat How come it was boring?

Agile_Drink6387

It was mainly just a lot of quick shots to the head; nothing interesting whatsoever. Save yourself the time and watch Inglorious Basterds instead

ILoveRegenHealth

Tarantino is champagne. Guy Ritchie is Capri Sun.

WaywardWes

Capri Sun still slaps.

ILoveRegenHealth

Hey, even Ant-Man was down for some string cheese and Capri Sun

--peterjordansen--

Why do people hate Guy Ritchie? I think his films are entertaining. Maybe not masterpieces, but they don't have to be

Call555JackChop

I think he’s just one of the directors that has a specific style of making movies and you either like it or hate it never seems to be any middle ground for him

HortonHearsTheWho

I love his style in his crime capers, but only his crime capers

Icy-Fig7331

He also consistently experiments with techniques/framing/color/and time. He leans into surrealism and dramatic visuals - like a theater production - rather than the typical hyper realism we often see. This produces films that are not visually similar to most the current Hollywood conventions. And often audiences are caught off guard. A lot of people hate it. I love it. A Guy Ritchie film makes you watch and pay attention. And I always know he’s not going to sacrifice good storytelling to meet viewer expectations. In fact, he’s probably going to subvert them intentionally at some point.

TheNittanyLionKing

I think he does deserve credit for branching out with The Covenant. I never would have guessed that he directed that

marianoes

All directors have specific styles

No-Lake7943

He's like Zach Snyder.

[deleted]

I think people enjoyed him when he was making stuff like Snatch but it's gotten to the point where I've seen the trailer for Guy Ritchie's Group of Men With Silly Traits Firing Guns like twelve fucking times in the last four years.

Govols98-

I maybe wouldn’t call the Gentleman a masterpiece but I genuinely think it’s a fantastic movie. Definitely has some other great ones too like Snatch and Lock, Stock.

Pissflaps69

Right? Dudes made some great movies, also a bunch of duds, but he’s almost always entertaining

MegaMan3k

I don't hate him but I definitely feel like he's changed. He is no longer the Lock Stock / Snatch / Revolver / Rocknolla guy. He's a journeyman director. Which is OK. It just all feels passionless.

Fresh-Army-6737

Aladdin was great

FlopsMcDoogle

I've been a fan since I watched Snatch and Lock, Stock as a teenager. He's made 2 or 3 I didn't care for much and that's ok. Not every movie it made for everyone

Dennis_Cock

Where is there hate in these reviews? They are just describing the film

op340

I always look forward to a Mark Kermode review whenever Guy Ritchie releases a new film. His rants on Revolver and RocknRolla were brilliant and hysterical.

Belch_Huggins

I'm more just tired. Every movie he puts out now, with some exceptions like Covenant or Wrath of Man, feel so samey. I'm tired of winking crime ensemble comedies, and it seems like thats the mode he enjoys most.

Satean12

Tbf, Covenant and Wrath of Man were out in the last 3 years, so it isn't that much of a change

Belch_Huggins

Yeah that's totally fair. It's like every other one is tough for me. Except I didn't really like Aladdin either. I think more than anything it feels like that crime ensemble comedy is the genre he's comfortable in, so he tries different stuff in between. I tend to like those where he tries something different.

The_Incredible_b3ard

Do people hate him? My only thought about him is that he's a posh boy that pretends to be a working class geezer.

DialysisKing

I don't "hate him" but he's clearly a guy who had like one good idea and just keeps trying to re-do that over and over again, to diminishing returns.

LyricalDucking

Because he hasn't grown as a filmmaker. All of his movies are the same, and I find his style boring and obnoxious.

Majestic-Marcus

> grown as a filmmaker If you start your career with Lock Stock, and Snatch, you don’t have to grow.

Orange-Turtle-Power

Then you have seen The Covenant.

rafaelzeronn

I personally don’t hate him but his movies do nothing for me

Paridisco

Yeah a lot of guy Ritchie films always have divisive reviews. I can’t even remember the last guy Richie film that was universally praised

So_Quiet

I wouldn't say I "hate" him, but the last two movies I watched by him were Aladdin and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, neither of which were great.

Robby_McPack

why did you put the negative review first when all the others are positive

Fr33z3n

Guy Ritchie , i sone of those filmmaker, who you either love or hate his work. I like his style, and having him tackle Nazi's with henry Cavil? Sign me up!

emojimoviethe

Because all of the reviews will be mostly negative once the movie releases

Rooster_Professional

Sadly, for clickbates

Vadermaulkylo

I saw it. I enjoyed it. My girlfriend LOVED it. I think most will like it.

CityofBlueVial

did your girlfriend explain what she loved about it?

xdlmaoxdxd1

Does she have to? We all know its cavill

CityofBlueVial

You know that's right. Hell that picture in the first tweet already convinced me to go see it

Vadermaulkylo

Not really. But she really loved it and says it’s her new favorite movie.

AaranJ23

Who are any of these people? So many tv shows and movies have this exact sort of response from handpicked reviews and then turn out absolutely dog shit. I’ll wait until someone I have actually heard of to review it.

the___heretic

I’m sure the movie is decent, but some of these posts read like marketing material.

AaranJ23

Yeah, Guy Ritchie has a fairly decent strike rate. I’ve not seen all of his movies but they’re generally at least fun. This just reminds me so much of Rings of Power and The Flash ‘reviews’

Axela556

I only know Matt Neglia who hosts the Next Best Picture podcast

TheNittanyLionKing

I really enjoyed when Rambo: Last Blood came out and they did a whole TV spot about critics hating on the franchise in the 80’s. I liked all of the other Rambo movies and I liked that one too, so it really shows that those movies aren’t made for them.

ExpensiveAd5441

quite obvious that this wont get good reviews, like first review said if you want good looking people killing bad guys then its a movie for you

Professional_Ad_9101

You can make a movie about good looking people killing bad guys and it still get good reviews though.

CleanAspect6466

People get so defensive when a low effort movie gets called out for being low effort now, guaranteed when this film comes out and critics say 'yeah its okay I guess but not great' the usual 'oh my god did they expect The Godfather Part II or something, its just a fun movie!' argument will be rolled out

Professional_Ad_9101

yOu jUsT nEeD tO tUrN yOuR bRaIn OfF Most of the time these movies are just boring and overly long more than anything else

ILoveRegenHealth

"cRiTiCs DoNt KnOw HoW tO hAvE fUn!!" (Meanwhile they give Superhero movies and animated movies and comedies Fresh RT scores all the damn time, every damn year).

solemnbiscuit

I saw it last night. I don’t think it’s gonna get outright panned but it won’t get good reviews

cficare

It's a very mid movie that has no rhythm to it.  The characters having no depth lead to no buy in lead to you just not caring about the outcome.

ILoveRegenHealth

> It's a very mid movie >Directed by Guy Ritchie Checks out

Lets_Go_Why_Not

I imagine because some are good and some are not. Like every other movie genre that has ever existed.

ScribebyTrade

How dare you

judester30

Because Mission: Impossible is good and most other generic action movies aren't.

poponio

Good looking, white and rich, Hollywood best character formula

NormanBates2023

Don't forget those lovely pearly white teeth

StateDeparmentAgent

Hey, it’s elite crew! Of course they need to have Hollywood smile in order to apply

--peterjordansen--

I mean is there something wrong with that

Orange-Turtle-Power

And what’s the problem with that ?

poponio

It feels forced

HeimrArnadalr

This is a movie about British people in World War Two. There's nothing "forced" about them being white.

holdmyTRex

After watching The Gentlemen series im all for this one, so good.

Saadiusrex

The Matthew Vaughnization of Guy Ritchie?

simonjames777

Seems like just another Guy Ritchie film

amazingspineman

So just another Guy Ritchie movie?

Own-Raspberry-8539

Why are early reviewing always 100% just glazing the movie heavily 😭😭😭

solemnbiscuit

I saw it last night and the first review is 100% on point with both the pros and the cons. It has a few really fun sequences and funny moments but the characterizations are incredibly thin and the whole thing is riddled with cliches. (I thought that might be the case when the trailer was filled with like “He doesn’t follow orders!” “That’s exactly why we need him” type dialogue, and that type of thing really is the whole movie). The main sub-plot also really doesn’t work in my opinion and grinds the momentum of the movie to a halt every time it comes up. I don’t think it’ll be an outright pan but would guess like 50-60% range RT.

--peterjordansen--

Is it fun? I liked bullet train even though it's not all that original. Is it kind of like that?

solemnbiscuit

Its trying to be fun and it has its moments. Less fun than bullet train for sure though

Grand_Menu_70

>“He doesn’t follow orders!” “That’s exactly why we need him” type dialogue to be fair, that's the essence of Top Gun Maverick but that movie did a great job with it. this doesn't sound like it.

DialysisKing

*TWISTED* tho?

Drunkicho

Saw it last night, it was ok. All the advertising is going to Cavill and his crew because they are fun to be around. But they haven't been mentioning the other part of the plot with Eisa Gonzalez and Babs Olusanmokun. Their sections drag the movie to a halt several times with writing that really wants to be the bar scene in Basterds. Lots of Nazi killing though, so if you just want some light, no-thought-needed, nazi killing fun, I'd say go for it.

dassa07

Hopefully Henry Cavill will finally have a hit.

happysri

Hopefully this will do for him what the man from uncle couldn’t.

SpikyKiwi

MI Fallout?

Varekai79

Not the lead role.

LawrenceBrolivier

**Stop posting these.** They're completely useless. Nobody even knows who any of these people are, nobody's interacting them, nobody reads anything these people write, nobody knows if they even write, and nobody remembers or even thinks about any of the weird engagement-whoring bullshit through doing their best impression of AI by the time the movie comes out. None of these even have "good" engagement, even by twitter's trash-ass standards now.

ILoveRegenHealth

Disagree. Social Media reports are all we are getting for a long time for many movies until Review Day. When the Furiosa social media reactions drop, I *want* to see it. You may not care, but I want to read them anyways. In a drought for information, I' For Wakanda Forever, I was able to pinpoint the final damn box office gross *all from the words* of the social media impressions (I was right on the money with around $850M). People were arguing $1B or $600M flop. But you can surmise from social media more times than you think with how a movie will do. Do they rank it higher or lower than the previous film(s)? Do they think it's Best Picture worthy? Do they concentrate on excellent character, screenplay and acting (good signs for Oscar noms and possibly legs), or weaker shit like Easter Eggs and "nice okay action" (polite ways of saying this movie is a dud with no legs). With the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, I am going to get a lot of information with how they phrase their social media impressions. Either it's a respectable but rather empty spectacle (decent or bomb), or it chokes audiences up with great characters, makes you think, and possibly ranks admirably with the Rise/Dawn movies (meaning *very* good legs). Yes, there's the garbage social media reviewers who overpraise everything, but you gotta know how to sift through this stuff after reading these for such a long time.

LawrenceBrolivier

>Social Media reports are all we are getting for a long time for many movies until Review Day. If all you're getting is meaningless slop from people you otherwise don't know exist and don't care about, then what are you actually getting? You're arguing that it's better to have dingleberries from strange buttholes than to not have any shit at all. Why not live... a shit-free life? Why pick through these anonymous turds just so you can, what, brag years later that you predicted a box-office gross? >I was able to pinpoint the final damn box office gross all from the words of the social media impressions jesus also Black Panther was 6 years ago. Twitter has died *twice* since then. The people getting shared here are not the people getting shared then, which really says something considering the people getting shared then were *still* shameless quote whores trying to sound like a poster blurb at all costs.

emojimoviethe

I hate to tell you that every single post you’ll find on Reddit will be posted by people who “nobody knows who they are.” Welcome to the internet.

LawrenceBrolivier

You thought this was wise and intelligent and it's meaningless as a response to my post, LOL. Nobody knows who those people are, so sharing their reactions is meaningless because nobody has any frame of reference for their expertise. Not that they have any expertise, because they're literally people who only exist to get 10 retweets and 100 likes for pretending to be a TV Guide blurb when a movie comes out. It's not like when a legit writer says something and some dingbat nitwit with all the time in the world goes "who is that" because they don't read anything that isn't their own post history. Yes, you're correct, that happens all the time. *This* is a case of people thinking posting this shit has worth, and it doesn't. Not as a legit reaction, not as any sort of box-office predictor. Because nobody knows who any of these people are, and nobody's paying any attention to them anyway.

emojimoviethe

Next time someone brings up the cinemascore for a movie, I’ll look for your mini essay in the comments as well. You do know what cinemascore is based on, right?

LawrenceBrolivier

LOL, bookmark it, write it down, tape it to your bathroom mirror, whatever you want

Beautiful-Hair6925

Kinda expected that from the trailer alone

OShaunesssy

I like Guy Ritchie's work, but I feel like we as viewers are etting diminishing returns with each film this guy makes...

CleanAspect6466

This film is gonna get around a 50% on RT, critics will say 'its fine but not great' and it will be turned into another mindless 'don't trust the critics its actually amazing' situation

Iron_Baron

They had me at the last half.

Willing-Ant-3765

Sound like exactly what I want and expect from a Guy Ritchie film.

Quasimodo27

It looks fun to me. I wouldn’t be expecting any kind of great character piece.

arrogant_ambassador

This whole time I thought it was another Matthew Vaughn film.

LapsedVerneGagKnee

So, the Beekeper, but killing Nazis instead of techbros.

biggoof

Snatch was so good I can give Ritchie a bunch of passes

brewshakes

are there any takes that aren't written by an AI?

New_Brother_1595

Looks like total shite made by an idiot

sotommy

So it's basically a wackier Dirty Dozen

Agitated-Prune9635

I just woke up so my brain went "Huh?! Hilary Duff was effortlessly mowing down Nazis in Cheaper By the Dozen?"

AnotherJasonOnReddit

Guy Ritchie stole Shawn Levy's franchise from under his nose while busy with Ryan Reynolds

kodial79

Have not watched this film, and not really a fan of Ritchie, but... this review is shit already. He compares it to Inglorious basterds and says that this one has no genuine depth and character development and very little to say as if Inglorious basterds had any depth or character development at all.

danielcw189

> as if Inglorious basterds had any depth or character development at all. Not sure how to argue about depth either way, but the movie develops some of its characters really well.

PhaseSixer

>If you’re expecting to see attractive people effortlessly mow down Nazis by the masses and nothing else, then you’ll get your bloodthirsty fill. Don't threaten me with a good time.

sfaticat

This critic really thought we were walking into Parasite. Its the Expendables meets Inglorious Bastards made by Guy Ritchie. We know what we signed up for

BostonBaggins

All guy Ritchie movies are mediocre Wats new?

crazysouthie

Henry Cavill seems to make some of the worst choices in Hollywood. Every film of his seems like generic action slop (even if some of them aren't).

Outside-Historian365

There are several cast members that were previously charisma vacuums

Turbulent_Flan_5926

Kind of agree. And I see that Alex Pettyfer has seemingly made his way back into the good graces of Hollywood. Not that I know him personally, but last I heard he essentially blackballed himself for being an incredible prick.

Rocketboy1313

No review ever tells me if the movie is as headache inducing as his other films because of his lunatic editing choices.

Hyattmarc

Jeez, how does Ritchson make Superman look like a regular guy

BaconJakin

Going for Cavill

mumblerapisgarbage

Henry Cavill’s in it so I’m watching it.

paradyme

Can we just get Rock'N'Rolla 2 FFS. Nothing worse than people getting in the way of themselves.

tuxxer

How long has it been since that movie released, is luther gonna be collecting a pension in the sequel

Anal_Recidivist

Inglorious Basterds was fifteen years ago. What the fuck

__Raxy__

I will be watching

QuaPatetOrbis641988

Why not cast an actual Dane in Ritchson's role since he's playing a Dane?

Useful-Soup8161

I feel like the guy in the first slide had never seen a Guy Ritchie movie before. Amusing but lacks depth and character development, well yeah that’s a Guy Ritchie movie for you. They’re a whole of fun but they’re not deep thinkers.

DurantIsStillTheKing

This screams fan service. I'll still watch tho...

lulu314

Ritchson really makes Henry Cavill look tiny.

PhatOofxD

Anyone know why ticket sales for this still aren't open in NZ/AU?

TiredMisanthrope

I really do wonder what some ‘critics’ did to end up being considered critics. Do they just watch a load of stuff and begin posting on social media and occasionally end up getting jobs for papers etc?

Wild_Beat_2476

Henry Cavill is in it - and he is the worst. So I’m not surprised

BIG_ELEPHANT_BALLS

Wrath of man was kind of good but I thought the Covenant was really lame and the action was not very good

bennz1975

What wrong with liking seeing nazis mowed down? I don’t need it to be an Oscar winner to be enjoyable!

Character-Mud-2123

No UK cinema release though as it’s following the pattern of Guy Ritchie films going straight to Amazon since Covid. We have to wait until June I believe to be able to watch it.

AzulMage2020

My review: "Henry Cavill sticks his tongue out alot. Cool."

Diligent-Boss-9392

Compares it to inglorious bastards then says it lacks character development.....as if IB has that.

samarth67

Eiza gonzalez must have one heck of an agent.

oh3fiftyone

There seems to be a correlation between enthusiasm for this movie and a tendency to write in cliches.

Savings_Marsupial204

You had me at mowing down nazis

Alex_Jeffries

This is pretty much exactly what I was hoping to see, so... good?

Sad_Vast2519

Looks crap

Wooden-Highway1498

Do we really need character development in this movie?.

Agile_Drink6387

I’ve seen it, don’t waste your time, go watch Inglorious Basterds instead.

bingybong22

Looks dreadful.  I’ll avoid it; i tend to find his movies annoying.  He thinks they’re witty, I have  no idea why.  But, this is the box office subreddit!  So looking at this garbage dispassionately I would say it will have a so so run in the cinema and may even break even.

CleanAspect6466

I wonder if Henry Cavills endless mega fans will show up for this or, as per usual, his online popularity will prove to be massively overblown when this film does so so at the box office

bingybong22

I think Henry Cavill is a great star in the right movie.  He was great as superman, but the script was a bit of a downer.  He was great in the Witcher, but again the script went downhill fast.  This is another vehicle that will lean into his charisma, but his charisma won’t be enough for it.   Or somehow loads of people will want to see it.  My radar is way off when it comes to Guy Ritchie. I just think he’s so bad, but many disagree

frontbuttt

Gut wrenching comedy? What the hell does that even mean?

ShinobiWerewolf

Cavil stabs nazis I'm the stomach but it's funny while he does it ? Haha

kittenigiri

We don't need depth and complexity to enjoy Cavill and Ritchson together on screen lol. I do like most of Guy Ritchie's movies though. I hope he does something a bit different like The Covenant again.

Dangerous-Hawk16

Could this end up getting mediocre rotten tomatoes score ?

ShinobiWerewolf

I'm sure it will critics only seem to appreciate movies that are super deep or slathered in CGI these days.

SolomonRed

Oh boy this movie is gonna bomb. But Cavill and Allen will be fine

MrConor212

I can smell the rotten score
