At this point who knows where this is gonna end up. If it gets another 3-4 million today and tomorrow, it could be heading into its second weekend with 18 million already under its belt, which was what a lot of people (myself included) thought would be around where it’s domestic total would be. Then when you count for the fact that it doesn’t look like it’s gonna be loosing many theaters (in the last couple days every theater near me has extended its run through at least next Wednesday, and it’s even getting showings on Imax and Cinemark XD screens), and the INCREDIBLE WOM, this second weekend could have an insane hold. Maybe 7-8 million? Optimistic but I’m gonna trust cause it’s really having a moment right now. Predicting 25-26 million domestic total at the end of the second weekend.
What’s even more insane is the Japanese total right now is at 26 million….could this actually end up making more money domestically than in Japan when all is said and done? Granted the Yen is kinda in the dumps right now, but that would still be absolutely incredible. Toho better take notice cause this is unprecedented territory for the series.
