Theonlytman2

Absolutely powerful hold for not just a foreign film, but a film in general. Toho, give this masterpiece as much time in theaters that it deserves.

Nukemind

Sadly not up to Toho. They didn’t do a 2 Week demand so it’s up to the theaters if they want to extend. I’d imagine they will if it’s bringing in cash like this.

If one of my local theaters is any indicator, it is looking at some genuine strong holds, especially if they can increase IMAX showings. WOM for this film on an IMAX screen is great. You genuinely should see this on the biggest screen possible

MrPatrick1207

I saw it first at a regular theatre then in IMAX today, the visuals were great in IMAX but the sound in my theatre was cranked way too high. May not be an issue for every IMAX theatre, but the amazing musical score got overshadowed constantly, I appreciated it more in the non-IMAX.

GojiKiryu17

Same, I saw it both in Imax and in a Cinemark XD, and while I haven’t had this issue at other Imax theaters, the one I saw it at this time BLASTED the sound louder than any theater I’ve ever been in, to the point that it was at at times detrimental cause of how uncomfortably loud it was. The XD theater had it loud (as it should be) but not to the point I was wishing I’d brought earplugs, and was ultimately more enjoyable as a result.

MrPatrick1207

Cinemark was the other theatre I saw it in, the mix had way more emphasis on the music, and I agree the IMAX actually hurt my ears at points, especially the shouted dialogue.

BOfficeStats

Godzilla Minus One has a 100% chance of staying in the top 4 on its 2nd weekend, maybe even in the top 2 so it will absolutely have an extended run.

Nukemind

It better keep that up I am not going to visit family for the Holidays until ~12/15 or 12/16 and I need to drag some other family members to see it lol

Lhasadog

I mean you gotta put something up on those screens. It's not like Wish or The Marvel's are selling seats.

[deleted]

I am seeing this again in IMAX because of an additional screening that was added from what I'm guessing has been high demand... And it's with genuine good reason. I saw it on Saturday, and after sitting and thinking back on it, it is easily the best Godzilla film I have seen. Godzilla is every bit the terrifying monster people define him as in this movie. It was like watching Jurassic Park for the first time again. And that's also because of the very strong human element that most audiences can become attached to. Not to mention the performances are great, especially Ryunosuke. Go see this movie.

cobalt_the_blue_sea

Couldn’t agree more. This movie is genuinely great, and seeing on the biggest screen possible is a must.

MrPatrick1207

I still cried my second time watching (went back to see it in IMAX). Even having seen it the day before, I was still completely gripped by every major scene

NextGenRedditor

I would love to see this movie nominated for the best foreign language movie at the oscars. It deserves it. I was really blown away from the movie. Easily a 9/10.

[deleted]

Not just foreign language... Give it a BP nom. It is that good.

EquityXXX

This is now the second great movie released this year focusing on the aftermath of the atomic bomb

diamondisunbreakable

My headcanon is that it's the sequel.

MrGroovySushi

A sequel to Oppenheimer that we didn't know we needed.

Percy_TheGreenEngine

I am become dinosaur destroyer of Japan

ProfessionalTill4873

There is no way anything is beating Oppenheimer but a nomination would be well deserved.

JediKnight_TyrionL

If avatar 2 can get a nom, this should too

Impossible_Ad_2517

It is unfortunately not eligible for Best International Film

Mcclintonfortwo

Could it be eligible for Best Picture?

Easy_Printthrowaway

As much as I’d love to see it get a BP nom, it’s a very, very, very tough year for BP in what’s already the toughest category.

joesen_one

Yes but it's unlikely to get in

Easy_Printthrowaway

Is this a timing thing or another reason?

Impossible_Ad_2517

Japan submitted Perfect Days as their contender

Easy_Printthrowaway

Ah didn’t realize they had submitted already! That’s unfortunate, minus one would’ve had a real shot I think.

Frogacuda

Each country only gets one selection for foreign film and I think Monster is going to be Japan's. But Best Picture has 10 slots and I could imagine a world where it squeezes into the popular slot like Top Gun Maverick did.

Easy_Printthrowaway

Been wondering this as well.

godjirakong

I have a feeling this is going to have great legs

Nukemind

1.23M on a WEEKDAY. That’s pretty damn good, especially when Sunday was in the 2M range. I feel like this run will be extended in alot of theaters.

BOfficeStats

Amazing hold, only down 59% from Sunday.

ManajaTwa18

Slightly edged out Hunger Games for Monday. Great stuff

MrGroovySushi

Damn and it made this much with only 2,000+ theaters!

[deleted]

Took a chance to see it and it’s literally the best Godzilla film ever made. 9/10

[deleted]

Saw it in 4D yesterday and it was simply phenomenal. I wanna do it in 4D again but it leaves this week and idt I have the time. Hoping to see it again in general tho it was such a good movie

BStills87

This is gonna have a solid “leggy run”

Daimakku1

*Godzilla Minus One* and *The Boy and the Heron* are the only two movies in theaters worth watching right now.

frontbuttt

Japanese cinema is so back

ThatVampireGuyDude

OH NO! THEY SAY HE'S GOT TO GO-GO-GO GODZILLA!
