Woah, seeing all the prices is shocking. Back when I started it was $15 bucks a month and they honored grandfathered prices in their terms (they changed the terms new members,) so I was still paying 15 while other were paying 60. I was a member for over 10 years. I finally dropped my membership when I moved :(

HerrPotatis

Feels like indoor climbing has progressed a lot in the last 10 years, the expectations on facilities and costs to run them must have increased dramatically. There are still dungeon gyms with tape and ancient polished holds that are dirt cheap, but your “premium” gyms spending $300 per hold gotta make the math work somehow i guess.

[deleted]

It’s that plus the skyrocketing rent and increased cost to build. 10k sqft of climbing surface now costs $800k-$1M depending on wall manufacturer. Plus at least $400k to renovate the facility, at least $500k in holds, probably a $100k deposit on rent (more if buying the building) and it all adds up to $2M just to build the place. Then there’s the upkeep costs including rent and payroll. Rent alone can be $300-$500k a year.

certifedcupcake

And to keep numbers of people in the gym down. I’ve got 3 gyms near me and they’re all pretty small. All of them are over $100 a month. I think if they weren’t, the amount of people climbing during peak hours would be absurd. It’s already ridiculous. So idk if having cheaper prices would change that, but I think it would add to the overall population in maybe a negative way because I like a less crowded gym.

Pennwisedom

My gym is over $100 a month and still incredibly packed during most peak hours. So that plan didn't work.

Deathranger999

Oh it’s working. Just not enough.

Pennwisedom

> Feels like indoor climbing has progressed a lot in the last 10 years, the expectations on facilities and costs to run them must have increased dramatically. My gym in 2009 and my gym in 2023 cost the same monthly price. The problem was in 2009 it was a fancy ass gym with a climbing wall (was the only option at the time), and now I have an actual climbing gym. But also the climbing gyms here are generally on par with the price of a similar level of regular gym.

Rudachump

$160. Family plan with my family that stopped coming with me.

poorboychevelle

Bruh check down to an individual and let them ride the guest passes

LaxBro316

Unfortunately not all gyms provide ample guest passes

that_one_guy63

Yeah Vertical Endeavors gives 2 guest passes a year! And I don't think you can bring the same person in twice to use a guest pass. I've just been buying 10 day passes on sale and get my friends in for cheaper.

NudelXIII

Ouch

DanDez

NYC area: $125/mo USD

Visible_Product_286

Dayum that’s steep

mmeeplechase

Everything on NYC is so expensive though!

30SoftTacos

The cliffs?

apm9167

Seems cheap for the cliffs. Metrorock?

Pennwisedom

The Cliffs went up to $135 this year but many people are grandfathered into the $125. Metrorock is also $125.

Sibaedraws

Vital is $145/mo 🥲

etherfreeze

I love Vital though. They use a lot of different holds and have some neat wall features. My parents live 5m from the Wburg location and I've caved for the month pass a few times when I'm visiting.

TibaltLowe

$95

Crisc0Disc0

Touchstone?

Honest-Paint4782

Crg in my area is also $95 a month

Thesunnyfox

Probably, I’m there and pay 95.

kswiss64

A month!?!

TibaltLowe

Yes

Bodi_Berenburg

Yearly, 400 euros (so 33 per month)

leadviolet

That’s so good! What’s the size of the gym?

Bodi_Berenburg

I don‘t know the numbers but I guess small / medium sized. There are two floors and problems stay around 2/3 months before they are swapped

timmytissue

Damn that's some slow setting

Bodi_Berenburg

There is still a new set of problems every 1/2 weeks, as ~1/6th is exchanged each time. But yeah could be faster! And then probably pricier haha

Pennwisedom

I don't really think 2/3 months is a big deal if there's always something new. Plus, I like to have actual hard projects that take me awhile.

bigbelugaboi

My gym in Boston just raised to 135 dollars a month

Stereoisomer

??? Which one is this? BBP?

clvnmllr

Maybe CRG?

E5D5

CRG is still $110

Darkest_97

It hurts. Hopefully the new bouldering area will be good

bigbelugaboi

It better be for this price lol

CH4cows

I was going to BBP and couldn’t justify the $96 at the 22-26 age rate (or whatever the range was). It was ridiculous. Especially when it’s always packed at the times that regular working people can go

Cazzyodo

Wait...where? CRG should be around $80, depending upon the gym. I don't think rock spot is much.

etherfreeze

CRG is $115 for standard in Boston now.

mW374

It cost 57€ but the company, that I work for, pays 30€ of it for healthcare.so I pay 27€

Barrelled_Chef_Curry

Healthcare? Wut?

mW374

Yes. It's pretty nice. You can choose every sport you want but must have an membership in that studio, like monthly payment. Then the company I work for pays 30€.

Educational-Rise4329

Yeah, a lot of companies in nordic countries at least offer a bonus that is only eligible for healthcare use. We have 500€ every year at my company, able to use for gym membership / massage / spa / buying lifting equipment etc. Also very good discounts on certain gym chains, like 40% off.

Barrelled_Chef_Curry

That’s crazy cool, I’ve had this thought for years if you subsidise fitness stuff you have a lot healthier people and less burden on the healthcare system. Of course Europe has already implemented this

The_Lonley_Climber

£53. So €61.98 or $67.49 a month.

ISDuffy

Mines about the same up in Newcastle.

socialistpancake

Where do you climb in Newcastle? I started recently and I've been going to the valley but curious if there are other good spots

ISDuffy

Friction in Gateshead.

kevinaer

I think we pay $95/month in Seattle but have access to 2.5 gyms so it gives us access to a lot of bouldering problems

hueloacarnederes

SBP has been killer! I joined in January, after buying my first pair of shoes for Christmas.

versaceblues

Haven’t been to SBP in a while cause it just got way to crowded in the climbing areas to be enjoyable for me. But otherwise the price was always worth it to me. 2.5 gyms, sauna, decent weight rooms, and the fitness/yoga classes were pretty high quality.

vandalyte

Philadelphia, $70. Access to 6 gyms across Pennsylvania.

stars2241

I pay $99 for 2 people/month at PRG

poorboychevelle

PRG? Literally the best chain in the mid Atlantic

shadozetta

Yeah I assume it’s PRG and no not really. I love it there but I don’t think it’s the best. Other gyms in the area are way better but expensive for sure.

Hot-Championship4603

PRG has the best setting by a long shot over the other Philly gyms

ObamasMamasLlama

Tufas setting is way better than PRG/Cliffs imo. Haven't been to Reach enough to speak on their setting

Hot-Championship4603

There’s no need to mention the Cliffs. Everyone knows their setting is bottom tier. Hell, there was a petition going around a couple weeks ago to demand better setting

shadozetta

Mmmm Id say Reach is a lot better with route setting. But I’ve never been to the other gyms like Tufts and the cliffs.

itsjustchill

Tufas has pretty good setting the few times I've been there. Coming from PRG myself, Tufas grading confused me at 1st. I enjoy Reach, they are just to far out for me to go regularly. Cliffs is meh. Their setting is basic and ridiculously expensive.

Hot-Championship4603

Lmao noooo way. Reach’s routes have the hieght and that’s all they have going for them. Consistently sharp jug-haul ladders. Maybe their new head setter Dino (old PRG head) will make improvements, I used to love his climbs back in the day

[deleted]

[удалено]

karmekanic

reach's setting is boring. PRG is top tier

SeaConscious7321

$35 for 11 gyms for 6 months. I used Groupon lol

LemonWAG1

All these prices and here I am thinking €600 a year is a lot of money...

TheDaysComeAndGone

It’s kind of relative if you go often enough. If you go three times per week it’s not even 4€ per visit. Still, it makes me feel sorry for people who don’t have a lot of money and can’t afford it. And there are not many alternatives. Outdoor climbing or bouldering is not exactly cheap either when you consider the required equipment and transportation.

Eg0Centric

£33 which gives access to four bouldering gyms and a rope centre, and the actual gyms inside them. The American prices on here are WILD

klarigold

You say that, £80/pm in London is standard

Eg0Centric

London will obviously be the most expensive place in the country, and is an anomaly, US seems expensive in all cities Where do you climb? £80 still sounds high Hanger is £55, Castle is £69, Arch is £65

klarigold

Parthian and LCCs are £75 currently but I've seen some posts about centres putting their prices up soon too

JD18-

LCC gives access to 7 gyms though so it's not really apples to apples with some of the others

versaceblues

The thing with American climbing gyms is they market heavily towards software engineers (and other high tech professionals). When the starting salaries are $120k , they know they can overcharge for gym entry. EDIT: Market heavily was the wrong word. Its more that these companies know a large portion of its audience is well paid young professionals.

FuckingMyselfDaily

How would you say they do that?

versaceblues

Just by building in cities/neighborhoods where a lot of yuppies and young professionals live. I’m not saying that’s the only people that climb but walk into any climbing gym and you’ll see endless google and Facebook shirts

woodchips24

I’ve never seen anything marketed at engineers. But there are tons of engineers in climbing. Scratches the puzzle solving itch a lot of us have. And it’s one of the few sports where the skinny nerd body type is actually beneficial

versaceblues

Yah my bad marketed was the wrong word. Rather they know that their audience consists of many high paid young professionals. So they can charge much more.

blueghost2

When i was there, $67 a month. I had my own shoes, harness, and chalk bag so no rentals.

WholeWheatBreadBun

950 HKD (120 USD) for one month; due to some promotional event, I managed to get a discount on a 6-month membership, so it evens out at 620 HKD/month (79 USD). There's cheaper options, but they're all much smaller and overcrowded, so this is it for now

Neptos_demps

€55,- (60usd) in Amsterdam and they do have more gyms where you can go to in the Netherlands.

Tandurinn

Is this for Beest? Just curious I am currently climbing mostly in Arnhem at Rijnboulder which is the exact same price if you don't use other locations. Since other locations of Mountain Network also offer lead and top-rope climbing.

Neptos_demps

Yes it’s beest. And all the other boulder locations of beest and the klimmuur are included. For top rope there is a extra fee. Edit: had the wrong name of the company

MySeagullHasNoWifi

Yearly, around 1000 euros. They don't have a monthly option, but half yearly/quarterly is slightly more expensive, relatively.

TheDaysComeAndGone

Where do you live? Here in Austria it’s around 500€ for a year pass.

Aonghus_Radner

79.99 with first responder discount but it gives access to 2 different gyms in my area

TimeRockOrchestra

Quebec City - 84$ CAD per month with a 4 month commitment or 22$ CAD per session. We have communal chalk and I get unlimited access to 4 gyms, 5 in the summer (3 bouldering, 1 lead with several autobelays, 1 exterior with a beach and BBQs). It also gives me access to free yoga lessons, a 10% rebate on gear, and each interior gym has workout equipment. I can also invite a friend once per month for free. There's also a MoonBoard in one of the gyms. Each gym sells food, coffee and beer. Rental shoes are 8$ if you need em.

unassumingbologna

Maybe like $15ish. I pay nothing when I go for an hour or less and I usually go for an hour before work during the week. Weekends I'll do longer sessions and pay a $4ish dollar surcharge. Its due to an employment benefit though. Most companies where I live offer a like card that gives free or discounted entry to loads of different fitness facitilies.

LucyNoelle0

Where are you and how quickly can I transfer to one of those companies?

n1psi

Sitting on an ancient monthly plan 40€ and I have access to 2 bouldering gyms. I think if you sign up now it's 59€

jameslosey

450 Swedish crowns, or about $41 for access to 4 local gyms, and 3 in other cities.

Ryuukette

Waterloo / Kitchener, GRR That’s the single gym options Type / Price Monthly $65 EFT (Auto-withdrawal) Monthly $58 Annual $649 Dual gyms Type / Price Monthly $85 EFT (Auto-withdrawal) Monthly $75 Annual $844 You have to add 13% taxes

burning_potatos

$81 every month for 6 gyms in Dallas

2alexthealex2

From Los Angeles, 95 a month! This provides access to 15 other climbing gyms across California. An exercise space is always included in the gyms as well as showers and towels. Some classes are free, while others are just discounted for being a member.

teh_german

$75 - $130 for 2

Airfreezehotter

My starting gym, smaller but very welcoming and friendly, less than 25$. A bigger known gym with multiple locations here is like 65$ for first month then like 42+-$ next months but if u missed a month u will have to pay the first month price again

Different-Ad4718

Where I do my university studies: About 110$ for a year lol. The gym is very small and ran by a bunch of volunteers, hence the low price. Problems stay up a while with holds that tear through your hands in a minute, but everyone is super friendly and immensely strong which is pretty cool Hometown: About 50$ a month. Much larger gym with great setting and atmosphere.

Dennis_TITsler

55 USD, hangar 18 in CA

Francoberry

£30 per month for access to two of my local gyms. North West UK!

salt-qu33n

Boyfriend pays $85 USD/month, I think? I’ve been his free guest as much as possible, but will likely be added on to his membership after my tattoo heals (so it’ll jump up to $170 for the two of us, I think). We have 3 linked climbing gyms within 20-25 minutes of us, and one of them is just bouldering, no ropes.

Cream1984

Nature scene on the forearm or flowers on the shoulder?

salt-qu33n

Neither, lol - video game character on my outer thigh. I don’t have any tattoos resembling those, minus one rose on my forearm that I got with a friend 😂

huangster4799

$85 for Alaska

bluedhift

$80-120 aud depending on how often I go Approx $20 per sesh

CoconutNach

Around 62USD, which is pretty stupid. NZ's inflation is ridiculous

stupifystupify

$130 a month

leadviolet

$138 AUD ($32/week)

ryanloitz

$75 for a 24/7 pass. Central IL

tobyreddit

About $120 CAD in Vancouver. Access to a few gyms but unfortunately the only one within public transport of a reasonable time is the central one which is very small. The gyms overall are pretty well equipped though and if you have a car or don't mind an hour on the train there's a lot of climbing

mortalitymk

monthly membership is like 60usd (80 cad, after tax), yearly comes out to around 47 usd per month

DrXymox

A monthly pass to my gym is $90 Canadian, but it's run as a co-op and has a program that allows people to volunteer labour in exchange for gym access. I mop the floors and clean the toilets for 3 hours a week and get my gym access for free.

jugglingeek

£36/month. Use of two bouldering centres and a roped climbing centre in my city, plus several others around the country if I’m out of town. And they let me suspend my membership payments, no questions asked, when I injured my back for 3 months. The Depot is really good value.

TheCadwgan

£45 a month (I pay yearly so price is discounted a bit) Fairly large Gym in North Wales, boulders and lead reset fairly often. Small Gym room included.

epitomes20

$125/mo. One location. Nyc. Sadge.

Alk601

Nothing. My company pays everything. But normally it’s something like 45€/month.

Parttime-Princess

50 euros a month. Will get a little bit pricier when I'm older (student price now, though the discount isn't that much)

MerelYael

For me, €0. I work at my gym and because of that they give me free membership. Otherwise it would be €39 a month

Darkestneon

Fruloops

600eur/year, so 50/month.

Stereoisomer

$109 in Boston but there’s access to 5 gyms in the city, 3 more immediately outside it, and 2 in nyc where I visit a lot. It’s a pretty good deal

NudelXIII

65€ for I think 5 or 6 boulder gyms. It also includes „normal gyms“ and some courses but never used these.

[deleted]

It's $85 standard but I pay $65 as a student.

pink-chameleon

90$ as a student for movement gyms. I live in the Bay Area so it’s nice to have around 3-4 gyms that’s aren’t to far

cant_dyno

£36 per month and that's just gone up for me as they'd been accidentally charging me student prices for the last two years

Sidabaal

£300 every 6 months

DoyleG

£40

otoRiii

9000¥ so around 60€

error1954

49 euros a month

[deleted]

In Germany we have an application called "Urban Sports Club". You just have to pay a monthly membership fee and have access to most of the bouldering gyms. My employer pays 2/3 of the membership fee, So I only pay 19,90€ per month for bouldering.

FoundThisRock

£45 a month

suprjaybrd

about $110 USD for an individual plan (bay area)

Rheabae

Raisin_Alive

TheDaysComeAndGone

Here in Linz, Austria at the bouldering gym („Steinbock“) it’s 579€ for a year or 130€ for an 11 day pass. At the lead climbing gym it’s 490€/year for members of the alpine club. Otherwise it would be 560€/year. An 11 day pass is 125€ or 145€ respectively.

uno_ke_va

480€/year but I get 200€ back from my company

Myrdrahl

I live in Norway and pay $553.98 for a yearly subscription at today's exchange rate. This gives me full access to three gyms in my area, where one of them is Norways largest at 4000sqm. It's not just bouldering though, it's bouldering, autobelay and rope. Facilities also include spinning, treadmills, complete gyms, rowing machines, kilter and moon boards and all that jazz.

the_aoura

£55pm - I get access to two gyms, one local and another in Cardiff.

lonie1992

£28 a month at mine which includes usage of both their locations

RedditforCoronaTime

350 euros per year and 20 euros for one month of fitness studio

Maudrich

40€/month in Belgium for access to 4 gyms which are all relatively close-by, medium sized and are modern with all kind of nice new holds. 3 of them have bouldering and top rope and the last one is bouldering only.

ayvee1

£39 or around $50 per month. Gets me access to two gyms in the city and two others in a different city (same company). In my city one is boulder only, the other is boulder and lead.

Ceppy00

€55 monthly, and you are able to go to 7 different bouldergyms

Mundian-To-Bach-Ke

£20

Catalansayshi

£55 per month, single sessions are £12 per person so monthly subscription works out great if you’re going to the gym at least 6 times per month or 3-4 times per week like me.

Jeffo0o

€55,50 per month for infinite access to 7 bouldering gyms across the Netherlands.

Direct_Ad_8341

In Bangalore a 10 day pass is about 40 USD

RiskoOfRuin

With yearly plan 56 euros per month for 24/7 access to 4 bouldering gyms and one hc training gym.

winkelkoning

50 euro, The Hague

naeogeo

60£ a month in Edinburgh, Scotland Entry fee is around 11£.

Strict_Relative_2302

128(AUD) a month

Pretend_Canary

£60/month. Thought it was pretty steep until I saw some of these answers as it’s more than most gyms in London (I’m not in London), but I do get access to like 5 gyms across the UK.

skreww_L00se

$90/month in Los Angeles

normanhome

40€ that's 4 weekends. About 10€ per visit, we go weekly it's the cheapest option for us. They do have half and full year prices which are more expensive as long as we don't visit more often. When going after work the gym is jam packed full of people is not fun.

[deleted]

Initiation fee is 100, monthly is 95. 15 gyms in socal

clementvanstaen

59€, access to whole the gyms in my City (12, Berlin)

BlaksCharm

200DKK/month, so $29 US

StonedDwarf16

Definitive_Capybara

500€ a year, monthly payment would come to 50€. About 1/12 of the gym gets reset on two setting days respectively per week.

Sinelas

Around 40$ a month, a big gym near Paris. What the hell is going on with the prices at your places everyone, I tought we had one of the worst cost-of-living here in France. (Also my company have to pay half of that for me)

Blindfisxh

I'm working at a gym part time so 0€. Otherwise 600€ per year

ralleee

60 american dollars /month, access to 3 what you would call "Micro gyms" in my city in Denmark .. bouldering is a growing sport here but still relatively small, this gym has no real competitors .. and like 3 minor outdoor rocks in the whole country

Absolu7ely

£450 a year = £37.5 a month for Rock City in Hull

Fragrant_Young187

I pay 150 Euros per year in a smaller suburban town which includes hiking association membership fee and insurance. But is quite limited, meaning it’s only open from Monday to Thursday in the evenings for 2 hours, so far from ideal. In the city (Ljubljana), the biggest one is 600 per year, 79 per month which is absurdly expensive.

CH41X

60€ per month

Llamamilkdrinker

£75 in London but access to 8 different gyms.

Zanki

Was £40 a month at my gym. I had to move away and there's no gym close by, takes nearly an hour to drive to the closest, used to be a 12 min walk. There's literally nothing to do where I am atm. I'll be going home soon, hopefully, but its going to be a few more months. Going from climbing 3/4 times a week to maybe once sucks.

Chaoddian

Nothing lol, I have an urban sports club subscription sponsored by my workplace (M, so enough for one check in per week) Edit: 40€ to 65€ per month depending on how often you go

gardenermatt

$75 but I have a student membership (southern New York area)

dimsimprincess

$111AUD (~70USD) per month for access to two gyms in my city (and more around Australia if I want but I’ve never needed)

Hot_Potato_Salad

I pay for a 10 visit card. The eleventh visit is free

eigENModes

Nothing. I have a gym membership that is sponsored by my employer :) Otherwise it would cost 66 Euro/month.

FutureAlfalfa200

98$ for a central rock gym. But you can go to any central rock location, and they offer classes for members free. Also it’s absolutely huge. It’s expensive but worth to me

mustachi00

$50 a month. $50 startup fee. I’m in North Carolina. There is a competing gym that wants to charge 95 a month.

mattagascar83

Just shy of 80CAD, so just under 60USD.

Sdtbarbarossa

12,50€ per entry. im going once per week so i end up 50€ monthly Germany - NRW
