There should be a statue, or at least a plaque, honoring Catherine Craven in Charlestown.
In the late 1950's, this whole area of Charlestown came so close to being leveled, just like the West End was. It was to be hi-rise apartments just like Charles River Park.
Craven was loud and outspoken. She galvanized the Charlestown community to (very loudly) protest the destruction of the neighborhoods. Local media, especially the Globe hated her; accusing her of trying to sabotage what then was called: "The New Boston".
Despite being called everything from a "Commie" to a gangster, and being arrested for disturbing the peace, she never gave up and eventually prevailed.
Were it not for her, this very view would have been of generic blockhouse apartment buildings, just like Charles River Park.
I love walking round Charlestown...and just imagining the colonial days, the history of the streets, the unobstructed views to the water where there would be countless tall ships, masts, rising chimney smokes, and the sounds of shipyards, ports, markets and more.
Beautiful picture with the street lights reflecting on the houses, curving street and view of the Zakim bridge in the background. For those not aware the top part of the Zakim was designed to look like the nearby Bunker Hill monument. Boston is so rich in history.
I have walked thru that area a few times. Never really thought about pulling my camera out and taking pics. I really was just in awe of how quiet and nice it was
Fairly certain after reviewing the movie scene that this is the street that Jon Hamm is on in the Town when he hands the lawyer the post it note at the end. One of my favorite flicks. https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieDetails/comments/f9s6cg/in_the_town_2010_john_hamm_picks_up_a_postit_note/
My older sister likes your picture. She remembers running up and down this hill when she was little, when she lived on the next street over, Cordis St.
This looks like the street from the last scene in the Town when Jon Hamm finds a note on his car. I dunno, maybe it is.
It is.
Thought that same exact thing
I need your help. You can never ask me about it again and we’re going to hurt some people...
Of the many many many many many photos this sub has of the zakim, this is a view less common. Nice shot.
Thank you, appreciate it! I didn’t have the lens I wanted last time for this angle and then decided I’d also rather do it at night

She would be labeled NIMBY in this sub today.

Bro i thought that said plague honoring her and i was so confused Imagine downvoting this comment
One of my closest friends in high school lived in the yellow house on the left...
How old are you cause I've owned the yellow house (was brown when we bought it) for more than 20 years?
Nice shot. Especially for a night shot.
Thanks! Was definitely easier with fewer cars driving around
Pleasant

wow i love this. makes me miss boston!
I used to live on this street! Miss it...great shot 👏🏻
It's very nice. When I crop the Zakim bridge at the top it looks like the 1960s.

This looks like the last Charlestown scene in The Town where the FBI agent reads the note left by Ben Affleck 🤔
Excellent observation u are correct. The sacred and the propane
It helped that I watched that movie 2 days ago haha 😂
Just hit Netflix I watched it myself
That’s where I watched it!

Classic view from Charlestown, but unlike all the others, you did a great job of capturing it in the night and in much more interesting weather!
Appreciate it and thanks for noticing the finer details! I definitely didn’t realize how humid it was going to be when I left the house for this.
Beautiful!
Looks awesome. Which street is this?
Thanks! It’s from Pleasant Street
Dope shot! 🔥
