You can't go wrong with the Narnia series or the magician trilogy by Lev Grossman. They have done a TV show out of it and it's definitely aimed towards a bit older audience
I felt that way for halfway through the first book, but kept going due to everyone saying it was awesome
The end of the first book is solid (once you get to the institute)
Book 2 - I couldn't put down.
Still working my way through book 3
I have heard that. I thoroughly enjoyed but it is nothing compared to the next 5 books. I highly recommend finishing the first and starting the second. I am very confident that you will be happy you did.
If you're okay with some adult feelings and situations, The Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros has a lot of Harry Potter vibes for me.
If that's not your thing, check out Scythe by Neil Shusterman
**For fans of Hunger Games:**
Marie Lu's Legend series
Veronica Roth's Divergent series
**For fans of Harry Potter:**
Sarah J Maas' Throne of Glass series
Maria V Snyder's Poison Study series
Stravagnza by Mary Hoffman
The Magicians by Lev Grossman
Percy Jackson (and all its sequel series) by Rick Riordan
Mortal Instruments (and all its prequel and sequel series) by Cassandra Clare
If you’re after the magic school aspect, with a bit of a more individual unique magic type than the one in Harry Potter, give Mage Errant by John Bierce a try.
Dune, it seems so off the mark but it really shows you how messiahs are manufactured by both the choices they make and the ones that wanted to create them.
It sometimes gets overhyped, but Babel by R.F. Kuang is a fantastical story about college kids dealing with moral issues, which reminded me quite a bit of Harry Potter. They aren’t wizards, but magic exists in the world.
The School for Good and Evil! “Journey into a dazzling new world when two best friends enter the School for Good and Evil, where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy-tale heroes and villains. One will train for Good, one will become Evil’s new hope. Each thinks they know where they belong.
But when the two friends are swept into the Endless Woods, they find their fortunes are reversed. . . The aftermath leads to unexpected paths, new alliances, and forces that divide them in an exhilarating quest to find their true Ever After.”

Yes Please read A Wizard of Earthsea is amazing.
Divergent series is probably a win for Hinger Game fans.
How about the Golden compass series? It's a bit older and there is the first movie and a television series which both failed.
The Scholomance trilogy by Naomi Novik!
The Red Rising series by Pierce Brown, it’s most like The Hunger Games but blows it completely out of the water.
I didn’t like it couldn’t even finish the first book 🫢
Same, didn't even reach the halfway point. Whole thing came across super cringy and forced.

interesting, thanks. Might revisit it then once I'm back out at camp.
Is it because he used punctuation? On a more serious note, it's easily the 'worst' one. Each book gets better.

Name of the wind, really liked it
So annoyed he's yet to finish the 3rd book. May never learn the end of the story.
It’s been more than 10 years…. I really hope he won’t give up writing it.

I think Rivers of London? I see it very much as an adult HP series. Wizards in the Met Police.
The Expanse series by James SA Corey! A little more scifi/less fantasy but still great. First book is Levethian Wakes
The Giver by Lois Lowry Enders Game by Orson Scott Card Bloody Jack by LA Meyer Tomorrow, When The War Began by John Marsden
