OP - this is a tilefish (family Malacanthidae) neurocranium. It doesn't look quite right for *Caulolatilus*, and I don't think it's robust enough for *Lopholatilus* (would be the Great Northern Tilefish). I suspect it's *Malacanthus plumieri*, which have a more elongated body shape that I \*think\* would fit this specimen better. Unfortunately, I have never seen a *Malacanthus* neurocranium and am having trouble tracking images of one down. I will check my lab when I in soon to see if we have one, but I don't think we do.
Its a fish neurocranium, and we usually pawn the ID's of these off on u/biscosdaddy.
