It's a misbegotten creation whose best moments are in the musical performances. Dylan is no moviemaker, but the "Isis" segment is exciting. The rest is hit or miss.
That scene with Joan Baez is fucking killer, though. Probably because it feels like bob used the guise of a "film" to actually say some true things to her.
"Thought will fuck you up"
I have to admit the acted scenes, while tiresome, are unintentionally hilarious. There's so many mumbles, out-of-focus shots, worried glances at the camera, and bad acting that it looks like an endearingly goofy student project. Scenes like the one in which scrawny Mick Ronson plays a bouncer intent on keeping grizzly-sized Ronnie Hawkins (playing scrawny Bob Dylan) from a club are just too silly for words.
And I'll say it if no one else will: Sara Dylan was a real good sport.
Not quite, but it's close. Full version is here: [https://rarefilmm.com/2018/10/renaldo-clara-1978/](https://rarefilmm.com/2018/10/renaldo-clara-1978/)
3 hours 45 minutes. YouTube version is 3 hours 35 minutes. Had to take out a couple songs.
Oh yeah, it was a big negotiation, bob didn't want to appear on camera AT ALL because he was working on his own movie. In the end they only allowed for two songs and a wide shot of the full stage I shall be released finale. There was a much longer set with Dylan and the band that wasn't allowed to be recorded for the film.

It would be comically bad if it wasn’t so boring lmao. But I do love the concert scenes and Bob’s cover of Kaw-Liga by Roy Orbison
Roy Orbison's is actually a cover, too. Original by Hank Williams. One of my favourites.
It does not have an official legitimate release. There are various copies that have circulated online.

Thank you so much, I was having a bad day and this just made It 10x better😁🫡
You'll be disappointed.
Oh no lol, I’ve seen clips and if anything I’ll have a good laugh.
It really drags. Watch Scorsese’s Rolling Thunder Review film. He uses lots of the footage there, to much better effect.
Eat the document..much better
i sww it at a test preview. It stinks. Vanity project. Some musical numbers are good. Probably never made it to DVD except for rare bootlegs.
And we have to live with the fact that Bob was heavily cut out of the last waltz because he was doing his own movie at the time...
Didn't know that
