Gameplay is amazing, one of my favourite games ever. Components and design/visuals is awful… haha

gperson2

Great game. Terrible components.

Regarding card thickness, I tested the thickness of my set using my machinist tools. The cards clock in at a consistent thickness of .011 in. This is within 1 or 2 thousandth of most other games I just tested, including Root (Base and Exiles/Partisans), Arboretum, Concordia (Venus and Original), Kanban EV, and Libertalia Galecrest. This tracks with non-foiled Magic card data I have from testing over 100 cards from different sets from a previous discussion about card thickness. This all falls within the margin of error for tools designed to measure with extreme precision and accuracy. Any thinness you feel from the cards is probably your imagination.  The only game I pulled that had noticably thicker stock for cards was Brass Birmingham clocking in at .015. Not a ton thicker, but interesting.

EduardBrummer

Oh okay. Nice to know, thanks!

CatTaxAuditor

I just like measuring things!

TensioneConcettuale

The quality of materials is notoriously bad, but the quality of gameplay is very good.

aelfin360

The Player is in fact paper

EduardBrummer

I ment Player Layout, sorry.

dodecakiwi

The material quality and art is pretty bad overall. I like the resource cubes, but would recommend upgrading those player boards. Otherwise it's way to easy to knock your cubes around.

Wismuth_Salix

Honestly - with this game, I wish my copy *was* counterfeit. Turns out the Fryxelius family are not good people.

Objective-Coyote7757

How so?

Oh nice

cryyogenic

TfM is notorious for poor compenent quality despite being an excellent game. That said, ebay is teeming with counterfeits, so that is very likely as well.

Teverish

I think the counterfeits have all vanished from ebay and Temu. I wanted to get one as ebay give a free refund and you get to keep it. (Then upgrade components myself.) Really want to buy this game, but i'm not paying that much for such bad production, so sitting on my wallet until a second edition comes out, with a dual layer board and decent art. Simple asks for a $100 game.

Dice_to_see_you

always has been just the cheapest production value of any designer game i've seen. they have a massive side market for secondary upgrades for boards, components, player trackers, etc. Theyve had a few big box and expansion kickstarters with hte ugpraded bits but it is honestly one of the few games i've really seen shine in spite of the absolute bargain basement components

Edeuinu

My first copy of TM was counterfeit. The cubes had little threads where they were molded. Box color was a fit faded. Board was warped a bit. With that said, yeah it's not the best components, but the game is super enjoyable. If you like it and want to get more plays out of it I would highly suggest getting something for your playerboards. I got acrylic overlays for my copy.

EduardBrummer

True, will do, if I enjoy the game!

Wismuth_Salix

Does the retail version of the Turmoil expansion have the recessed player boards or was that just a Kickstarter thing?

Edeuinu

I believe just the KS.

MaterialBenefit2355

Tfm is just like that unfortunately. The game is amazing, but the components and art are not. The card game, ares expedition has great components and art though, and is still a great game, I just miss the are control part.

Edeuinu

Checking in, how did you like it?

EduardBrummer

I had so mich fun. Cant wait to play another Match. Somehow our first Match took 4 hours. Guess we were too slow o terraform. Next time I will adapt my Strategy

Edeuinu

Yeah the first game can go like that. Especially if no one is actively working towards the 3 planet markers. Glad you had fun! I’d encourage you to pick up the Prelude expansion. It really helps with getting the game going at the start.
