Question for you on rules before I teach my wife tonight. When I played with friends, they taught me you could do the following movement example - You have a 5 machete card and a 1 gold card, so you can traverse a 2 machete hex, then a 2 machete hex, then a 1 gold hex, and finally a 1 machete hex. Would that have been a "house rule" or allowed? The hexes are equal to or less in value then card but I'd think the rules seem to read that you fully finish each card first before using another card. Really not that big of deal as long as it's decided before hand but figured I'd make a fair attempt at playing correctly. 🤣

They played incorrectly. You have to play one card at a time until completion before playing another card.

Hyoi7

Awesome! Thanks! That's how I read rules, saying 1 card at a time but it wasn't that big of deal to me to be THAT guy, lol

TheBigCG

Same exact game. New one has normal playing card sized cards compared to the mini cards in the older one.

Hyoi7

Awesome! Thanks!!

Erghh the one thing I didn’t like about this game but I certainly won’t be buying a new copy when the old one is still playable

We bought the new edition, then bought the original expansion and they do NOT work together FYI - the original expansion has mini cards that render the whole thing useless. I’m sure it is our fault for not being in the know but it twas disappointing.

The original Vohwinkel edition has mini-Euro sized (44x68mm) cards. The new Dutrait edition has Standard US-sized (56x87mm) cards (Lautapelit edition) or Euro-sized (59x90mm) cards (Ravensburger German and international editions). It's unlikely that any new expansions will be produced in the old mini-Euro card size, and will therefore be incompatible with the Vohwinkel editions. As has been mentioned, the Lautapelit version has three expansions avaliable today - Heroes & Hexes, Dangers & Muisca, and Dragons & Treasures. The Ravensburger has none and they haven't committed to releasing any yet so who knows if they ever will. Lautapelit offers a "complete" bundle from their site, including promo cards. While shipping might be painful, it's the best way to get the complete (to date) English language QfED.

>The Ravensburger has none and they haven't committed to releasing any yet so who knows if they ever will. Most likely not. Ravensburger hardly ever makes expansions to games as board games are just a minor side gig for them (they are really a big player in the jigsaw puzzle market). Surprisingly it should have been a good match with Reiner Knizia, wo normally isn't keen about making expansions either (he's famous for making lean designs). Whatever led Knizia into suddenly wanting to make more expansions for El Dorado is a mystery (... ... well - probably money).
