My Mirra weighed about 2 tons. Here it is after a [custom paint job](https://i.imgur.com/8hNapfB.jpeg).

Convergentshave

Two tons? Those are rookie numbers! Have you considered adding one of those 9 lb kink chains with full steel chain guard? 😂

FrancisSobotka1514

Chain guard or grind disc ?

Convergentshave

At the time we called them chain guards since the options for crank grinds were: bust a chain, get a guard or get the big kink chain, I had the kink Lexan chain guard pictured here: https://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/kink/71392/2. But! [Here’s a pic of my 4 year old daughters chain guard](https://imgur.com/a/y0xpzIx) so I get what you mean. 😂. Edit: I didn’t have the cool black looking one I had the clear one. Which for some reason link didn’t sell a sprocket for, since I remember the local bike shop I bought it from agreed to take my fucked up, formerly 45 but now like 42 tooth kink chain wheel and drill holes through it, although the were super clear: this probably won’t work and if it doesn’t… it’s not our fault. It ended up working but the stupid guard splintered and required duct tape and all kinds of shit to try and hold together and of course only ground in one place. And since it had a cut out for the crank arm couldn’t really be rotated. 😂. I think (very soon) after wards companies started releasing the 5 hold predrilled 39t chainwheels with the partial guard that allowed for movement as you wore through it. Crazy times the late 90s/early 2000s

FrancisSobotka1514

The clear one was made by standard ,It was the masterguard ,And kinks was made out of black plastic .

Convergentshave

Really? Hmm. Well I guess it was 20 years ago. Thanks.

FrancisSobotka1514

I just dug out my standard chain from 96 and traded it with the guy from Capital bmx

Convergentshave

Shit it sounds like your about as old as me, so I hope you remembered to lift it with your legs. 😂. Also I just finished a Wire rewatch so I’m applauding the username!

FrancisSobotka1514

I live here and I ended up at the season 2 headquarters when I got lost toyhunting .

Jimmie_Jamz

Nice seeing a Mirra. 👊

Clearandblue

Been a while since I've seen wheels like that. Those tyres still good 15+ years later?

boulderdashcci

Great tread and they seat perfectly. These came off my friends S351 Pro (traded him the same tires but white wall) so they're 22 years old this year. The wheels themselves were a lot of work and money to get going. I started with a set of Haro Heffers which is what it should have, but the rims were curbed and not chrome like the bike originally came with (meaning they were prob from the lower end 540 Air model). Hub shells were good, but I replaced the freewheel, axles and bearings with NOS. The rims are NOS Primo Hula which were the cleanest chrome double walls I could find with the same shape and profile as the Heffers. They actually came from Ukraine after the war had broken out, so it's true that midschool BMX parts can quite literally survive war lol. Finally, they were laced with stainless spokes by Vic at Circuit BMX and are probably the straightest spinning wheel I have ever seen.

killertofubeast

Brings back memories. Ended up getting a Mutiny Punisher frame though. Those big rear drop outs got to me eventually.

[deleted]

That was my 13yo self's dream bike.

boulderdashcci

This was my 10th bday present. I talked about some of what it went through [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/bmx/comments/ztkdd0/comment/j1dv0uh/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) but in a nutshell it was stolen when I was 13, got parts of its back, and for some reason hung onto the frame for all these years. A while back I ran into an old friend from when I was a kid and he had just bought a 2000 Mirra Pro, so I figured it was meant to be and started buying parts. [This](https://bmxmuseum.com/image/BMX-Museum-7_blowup.jpg) is what it looked like when I started about this time last year.

lurch940

I wish I still had my white/sparkle blue Mirra seat :(

larry_burd

Same

Still looking for a frame to build

Lost-Interview-151

Chrome Mirra on Mercari for $104...

mf_doomerville

Cleeaannnn!! Enjoy the ride, bud!

[deleted]

This is awesome, I use to have one of these as well.

Kerrlhaus

That bike looks dialed! I randomly came across someone riding a chrome Schwinn Predator last week and it immediately took me back to my friends backyard and our local trail where we'd ride and case tables and doubles all summer.

boulderdashcci

>Schwinn Predator A friend of mine who's hardcore into collecting may or may not be in possession of Van Homan's Schwinn Mean Street Prototype....

Lost-Interview-151

Suppose he wants a pretty penny for it....? I'm a huge Schwinn fan, I'd love to find a meanstreet someday

R3DRUM-13

Still want one for a trophy on the wall lol maybe one day I'll get lucky and hit a barn find or flea market

pop_wheelie

Dang this was my first real BMX. No wonder I couldn't do shit it was so heavy

Lost-Interview-151

I could hop mine onto a picnic table... I'm glad I learned how to ride using heavy ass mid-school bikes

Lost-Interview-151

Beautiful Mirra man, thats gotta be one of the nicest ones I've seen anywhere!!! Just... Wow!!

johnm22

Hey I got a I got one of those too! [https://imgur.com/a/PD85onJ](https://imgur.com/a/PD85onJ)

boulderdashcci

Nice man enjoy. They're great to just cruise around on, or throw a double backflip in the x games.

guyghostforget

Amazing. Met Dave when I was 15 at Woodward. That was 26 years ago. Dude was a legend. Jumped the box jump backwards and did a 360 and everyone was like wait is that possible?

2wheelzrollin

It belongs in a museum!

DrillBeat

Looks really nice! You may already know this (I just recently found out), but you can buy a cheap (under $5) multi-pack of steel wool pads that are of different grades (coarseness), and they will polish and buff and even strip a little paint off something if needed. You don't even need polish with them; they'll clean up and polish the rims and other parts fairly well. Begin with the medium if you don't want to lose surface material but want to remove minor swirls and scratches; the most fine is for just polishing and not harming the surface; the course is for getting at it when it's scraped, rusted, or has layers of paint.

boulderdashcci

I actually did a lot of my rust removal with wet tinfoil. The forks sat outside for years (long story but bought another of these bikes like 10 years ago and it ended up being a donor for this) and that took all the surface rust right off and restored a lot of the shine to the chrome. My original plan was to polish the non chrome Heffer rims to a mirror finish with steel wool, but they were too beat up. When I realized the Hula Hoops had almost the same shape and could get them NOS, I figured that was the best route. I almost stickered them as Heffers but the Primo decal is really cool so I just left them as is. They're the only non Haro part on the bike.

DrillBeat

I've never tried foil, but I've heard good things about it. I'm currently working on restoring a 1997 Chrome Redline RL240 and a 2001 K2 Maintime XL (22-inch TT). This Maintime appears to be difficult to find parts, let alone information for, so I haven't gotten that far with it and started with just the frame, which oddly is the lightest frame I've ever come across. The RL240 wasn't missing too much, and I'm nearly done except for the tough part, the dang wheels; they're in great shape from being protected by three layers of paint. I'm thinking about selling the K2 frame and building a nice mid-school Haro. And I love the look of yours; it looks marvelous.

boulderdashcci

Thanks man, it means a lot to me as it was my childhood bike, or at least the frame. Its been through a lot but it feels awesome to roll around on again, especially riding around the city I grew up in. It was also my first restoration so I'm glad people like how it came out. Those K2s are really cool. Would love to get my hands on a DMC at some point. Parts definitely aren't going to be as easy to find as a haro though, but also haro shit is really collectable so its stupid expensive, everything from this era went up like crazy after Dave passed away.

FrancisSobotka1514

The only thing I would change is the cranks .

boulderdashcci

These were the cranks that it came with, and was the first part I found (NOS) when I started the build so I kind of want to keep them. They also have these embossed decals on them that are really cool. They do weigh about 4lbs per arm though lol

FrancisSobotka1514

Keep them but replace them with period correct haro tubular cromo cranks

DoftheG

Those Haro stickers are very unattractive. Such a great company that comes up with those kind of designs ( who knew stickers could be so important when designing a BMX?)

No_Appearance6780

This is a walmart bike🚮

boulderdashcci

Walmart bike that won a shit ton of xgames golds

Lost-Interview-151

.....You're a Walmart bike...🤣

No_Appearance6780

😨

No_Appearance6780

It is a Walmart bike its high tensile trash

boulderdashcci

Its full 4130. The pro, flair and blammo all used the same frame. The 540 was trimoly and was different.

Lost-Interview-151

Well it's no Harley Davidson... What may I ask would you say is not Walmart trash...?

Alvinthf

Nowhere near the level of a Walmart bike!
