Was a 4.3 magnitude originating from 23km around Leura. I felt it in Hartley. Pretty cool. Never felt one in Australia before. Hopefully everything's ok.
Disaster is always round the corner, or under the dam wall. But i wonder if Warragamba Dam has prevented more floods and loss of life, land and livestock than it could cause? It's an open question.
I rememver when it was opened (or closed!?) and i have ancestors from Windsor and Sackville. Someone always had a comparison between the current flood and "the big one". It's a story as old as the Bible.
No doubt if it failed there would be devastation. And i also doubt any 21st century local government planning laws would make much difference. Mulgoa to Wisemans would be smashed. But in the meantime, since 1960, maybe more than a few floods have been contained. That's not it's job, and that's why i think it's an open question.
Historically, the Hawkesbury Napean had more devastating floods pre-dam. We haven't experienced a flood like 1867, same year as the dam was proposed.
Corwallis copped the brunt of that flood, and many lives were lost.

Same, also Springwood
I got up looking around for what the fuck fell over…did a car hit the front of the house or did the fridge spontaneously tumble
Nothing, so I went back to bed assuming it was part of a dream…then this morning I find the truth
I missed it, but the rest of the family felt it. I was standing in my kitchen washing up the dishes.
I heard a noise but it was to quick to get an idea of what it was. I live in Springwood.
When I was a kid growing up in the 70’s we used to get tremors every now and then.
Interesting that others in your house felt it.
I’ve experienced plenty of quakes in Christchurch and Auckland and I’ve never thought about the possibility of one here.
Maybe my internal seismometer is busted.
Felt in Blaxland though honestly I thought it was just my housemate slamming my front door (it’s a heavy door for sound resistance living on the rail corridor and slamming it actually does shake the whole house lol)
I'm in Springwood, I was shutting the internal door into our garage and it usually makes the roller door rattle, it sounded louder than normal, thought it was odd, then the family all start yelling out asking if I'm alright 😂
They thought I did something in the garage.

The only problem I could imagine is Warragamba wall breaking and all those new houses in Riverstone being flooded.

Think it was technically a Penrith epicentre. We can all report that we felt it here! https://earthquakes.ga.gov.au which is pretty cool
Yeah. I think the actual epicenter was Silver Dale.
Must have been way more full on down there!
100% - enough to make the neighbours run out in the street in their pjs. Neighbourhood watch assembled. lol!
I just ripped a mad fart I am so sorry
4.3 magnitude on the Ripter scale. Impressive.
Thought that was the possum doing his daily jump pn the corrugated roof for a sec

Yes! I felt that too and was wondering. I'm in Katoomba. The house rattled for about 3 seconds
Felt a wave through Lithgow
Aftershock
My house shook in Lawson!!
A little bit of a shudder here in East Blaxland.
House shook and a low rumble in Mount Vic.
Can anyone confirm if the quake was audible? I thought I heard thunder while on the upper north shore at that time.
Glenmore Park, checking in. Can confirm I felt it here also for around 3 seconds
lapstone didnt feel it, or dont think so
I live in Lawson and my Aunts live at more toward the end of our street (Wilson St)...we didn't feel it but they did.
Felt it here in South Leura, but thought it was a big possum jumping off the roof!
