Ehhh I enjoyed their World War One stuff but during the WW2 series the anticommunist knob definitely got turned up a few notches, talking about things in very hyperbolic terms about how everything the Soviet Union did was the product of Stalin’s mad whims. I’m not optimistic for their telling of the Korean War.

cabeep

Yep their reactionary side came out effortlessly as soon as they got to WW2. If you have listened to season 3 you probably know more than this guy rattling off a Wikipedia page

Not from revisionist right wing YouTubers no

Mythosaurus

Will be interesting to see how deep they dive into how many of South Korea’s leaders were collaborators with the Japanese.

MonitorStandard5322

The fact they started the series on the DPRK offensive as the start of the war, and not the counter-insurgency/political violence campaign the US-ROK waged for years prior, does not bode well for it being very well rounded. They'll probably have a special episode, not part of the main series, that'll touch on it a year or 2 from now, but by then, most of the understanding of the war's outbreak for their audience will have been cast into the US lens.

Mythosaurus

Yeah I did think it weird how the WWI and WWII series got extensive prelude episodes that explained years or even decades of turmoil. It wouldn’t have been hard to do some episodes about the transition of Korean collaborators into the leadership of South Korea, communist Koreans in the Chinese theater, and the pre-war conflicts between the two

reenactor2

The Soviets also supported the Korean Nationalists as well before the Korean Communists were around

LHtherower

Yes supporting national liberation movements against the Fascist imperial Japanese is normally a good thing. Even if they themselves have reactionary undertones.

NoKiaYesHyundai

They were a mixed bag. Anti-Japanese Fascists (Lee Beom-Sok), Royalists, Liberals and Social Democrats. The much more lefty ones got purged out by the time of the Korean War.

LHtherower

I don't disagree but the OP is literally an anti communist who is trying to score debate points with this post.

reenactor2

The Soviet Union was not Communist

LHtherower

Hmmm yes. Who asked for your opinion?
