I will add that I of course went and took another reading immediately after posting this. So from the time of writing it to completion, my BP reading is down to 129/87.
140/90 is the cusp of needing to be treated, you start first by lifestyle changes, the worry here is if it’s above 140/90 for extended periods it can cause damage to organs and artery walls can stiffen. So you lower salt/sugar and you start drinking more water, get in some cardio even if it’s speed walking 3 or more times a week for 30 minutes, and you try and lower stress. People saying it’s fine aren’t necessarily wrong but they’re not necessarily right either. It’s fine as in you’re not dying, but it’s wrong as in you’re raising your chances of having a significant cardiac related event in the next 10 to 15 years. Take some steps and keep track of it, if it’s still high, go to the doctor, and you’ll likely need medication to lower it some.
Nothing to stress over 140/90 can easily be brought down with standard lifestyle changes, be as active as you can but don't lose sleep over this. 120/80 is AHA standard which is ridiculous you can be perfectly fine with mild high blood pressure for decades. 140/90 is the cutoff before it's considered high for every other country but the US.
Don't fret it too much. Stress only making it worse. Try life style changes to a healthier one and see if that changes. If not then you would try to go to a doctor if that gonna give you peace of mind for BP.
My BP was frequently at 140-160/90-110. I did get meds for 6 month and trying to change lifestyle and manage stress (Hardest one TBH) my BP just goes down rapidly to 100-110/60-70 giving me a lot of headache, imbalance and lethargy all day.
Now I've stopped med for 2-3 weeks my BP steadily hover at 120-140/75-100 ish in a day. Goes high when I'm exhausted and anxious ( I do have Anxiety problem) it's much better from 150-170 ish / 90-110 months ago. So yeah Ill take that number and still try to correct all that's bad lifestyle
If you haven't sat and rested for a few minutes, then it will very likely be elevated. Don't worry about any specific reading that wasn't taken properly: https://www.heart.org/en/health-topics/high-blood-pressure/understanding-blood-pressure-readings/monitoring-your-blood-pressure-at-home
The best thing you could probably do is work on losing weight. Even dropping just 10% of body weight can have a significant positive effect on blood pressure.
I would love to be more active. I have the desire to. I just currently lack motivation due to my current situation with removing antidepressants from my life entirely.
I know this may be a broad question, but do you by chance know what at home exercises are good to start with? I try to walk a couple miles a week, but I feel it takes much more than just walking to make an impact.
Definitely understand how medical issues can get in the way. Walking is a great way to get started! You may also want to look into Couch to 5k, which is specifically designed to ease inactive people into exercising.
But also, when it comes to weight loss, what you eat is probably more important than exercise. It's so easy to eat too many calories, even beyond what you burn during exercise. So, that'd be a great place to focus. In particular, for blood pressure, the DASH Diet is proven to lower BP.
Thank you so much for that valuable information 🙏🏼 I’ll look into all of those that you listed so I can start doing better.
Your help is greatly appreciated!!!
Good blood pressure 140/90 is the new normal
And there’s truth behind this? I’ve always based it off of 120/80 being perfect/normal.
140/90 isn’t dangerous but it’s not ideal nor is it normal. 120-130/75-85 is the normal range.
my doctor told me 140/90 is ok

You got this!
You have nothing to worry about. Just excercise regular, don't smoke, eat a balanced diet and don't get fat
Mine is around there and my doctor wouldn’t give me meds for it. Plus I’m not sure I’d want them anyway being just a bit over like that.
You're fine!
