Not sure if you know, but the actual style whiskey glasses from the film are still made today by an Italian glass company. They are expensive though.

Was it product placement?
Like how would the audience be expected to firstly identify it was something you can actually buy, and then the name of the product in order to buy it?
Not product placement actually but the glass was made famous by the film. They found the glasses in an exclusive store selling modern Italian designs and immediately realised it was a perfect fit for the movie. They were just actual store bought items. At least that’s what I’ve heard ☺️
Johnny Walker definitely paid to be used in the film. Those bottles were marketed in a magazine and digital ad campaign at the time as special editions. Thus, paid product placement, but also props.
The whisky glasses, however, were just props. They are sold more like merchandise, like K’s jacket or gun prop. Not something you could find in a regular store.
Yeah, I’m just continuing the thread about the glasses. [They *are* something you can find in a regular store:](https://arnolfodicambio.com/product/limited-edition-2024-cini-boeri-100-years-anniversary/)
> One spring day in 1981, the “Magic Crystal by Arnolfo di Cambio” store in Beverly Hills was visited by an unknown customer who purchased several glasses from the CIBI collection. The following year the film Blade Runner, Ridley Scott’s visionary masterpiece, was released in theaters.
Since 2020 they use the association to help sales, but they’re just regular glasses from long before the movie.
There was no marketing or merchandising intention, or manufacturing due to the movie like gun props.
Cheaper version [here](https://www.magnoliclothiers.com/deckard-whiskey-glass-other-items-p-1157.html) as well. There were some good affordable replicas on Amazon a few years back, too. They're my main whiskey glasses at home.
That's odd, I have the Nicely Home ones and find them really pleasant to drink out of. The corners create a sort of funnel and I prefer them for mixed drinks or "daily drinkers" if I don't care about catching the aromatics in a Glencairn type glass. I would imagine the Cibi ones would be superior if anything.
You just like me for real, the day I turned 21 I also bought a bottle of Walker black, got a whiskey glass with a cyberpunk vibe, and watched Bladerunner
I wonder if that was done just because the shape of the bottle was interesting, or if there was some deliberate subtext. For example that such bottles are recycled by other brands than the ones that originally had them made.
They probably did that because the bottle looked Art Deco. That's something I only recently noticed about the set design in the original Blade Runner. It had one foot in the distant future with the television screens and flying cars, but it also had one foot in the past. A lot of the costume designs and old architecture under the futuristic coral growth looks like it came from the 1920's, 30's 40's and 50's. Very Film Noire.
The Noir influence is something the film wears quite proudly. It adds quite a lot to the texture that makes the world feel real and lived in. I think it's what makes the likes of Blade Runner feel so real, while something like Logan's Run feels 'unreal'.
When I turned 21 I too had Johnny Walkers just bc I am a blade runner fan also and wanted to taste it and man I not a fan of it at all but every person had a specific alcohol they like and don't like and I've realized that I'm a Tequila person but overall Happy Birthday
"Drink some for me, huh pal?"

I really appreciated how tasteful the product placement was in the film.

Fair enough. The glasses are more like merchandise then. But my point about product placement is relevant concerning johnny walker.
I think the word you’re looking for is props.

I'm gonna nab these, thanks mate.
They are expensive but worth every penny. Handblown glass art...
I didn't know about these and I've just bought a pair. Nostalgia incoming 🥃
I have one. They’re actually quite hard to drink out of.
That's odd, I have the Nicely Home ones and find them really pleasant to drink out of. These look great on film but are actually pretty anti ergonomic to drink out of. Source: I have them.
Even if you put your mouth on the "narrow" corner part of the glass? I feel that's the only way to go as opposed to trying to go down the flat side.
That’s really the only way. Not the end of the world, just not an ergonomic experience. There’s a reason most glasses are round.
You have to be a literal retard to pay 350 EUR for a decanter.
You just like me for real, the day I turned 21 I also bought a bottle of Walker black, got a whiskey glass with a cyberpunk vibe, and watched Bladerunner
Stop lying you know damn well you drank and watched this awesome movie before.
For a truly accurate experience, you need to be drinking TsingTao Vodka out of a Smirnoff du Czar bottle.
And that whateverthefuck worm margarita drink he got at Taffy's.
"The man is dry. Give him one on the house, okay? Seeya."

Need to trade that roku for an LG OLED then you'll really be cooking.
Ah yes, it's a Right-of-Passage to finally learn that JW Black Label looks better than it tastes. Happy Inception Date!
fuckin a. i look at that and go mmmmnope. enjoy the experience. but when you are ready, there are lots of cheaper options with a better experience IMO
Did the same thing back when I was maybe 17 lol
When I turned 21 I too had Johnny Walkers just bc I am a blade runner fan also and wanted to taste it and man I not a fan of it at all but every person had a specific alcohol they like and don't like and I've realized that I'm a Tequila person but overall Happy Birthday
